  1. Confirmed on my machine. full update in <2 hours.
  2. There was no web browser in 89. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_browser
  3. Not to discourage Sequoiaview (which I have never used), but it doesn't seem like a program with very intuitive GUI. Personally I use Treesize Free, which seems to be much easier to use for the first time. http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/ But If you feel comforted with Sequoia, don't bother, since they seem to do similar job. Just posting an alternative.
  4. Seems like a way to spend another workless day at work
  5. And, to be honest, I also sometimes do. Including fact, that I still have my very first PC, 56K dial-up modem packed somewhere, protocol is still supported by polish provider and the fact that there are still some BBSes over there ran by the passionates, it's sometimes tempting to run this time machine and feel at least the scraps of the spirit of the times.
  6. I've been interested in military since childhood days, and this matches what I've read years ago in polish 'Nowa Technika Wojskowa' monthly magazine. And no, no chances I'll be able to find THE article once again in reasonable time :> They simply wrote that, while making military contract, you never look for newest, just dispatched IT technology, and its infancy bugs are not the deal - in fact these things are loosing they price shortly after release, and due to the length of military contracts all the procedures, production and implementation are so lengthy, that whatever you do, technology IS obsolete when being dispatched. So why to overpay :>
  7. Ain't it be a problem for some that kb3118304 have many language-dependent installers? Should we inform them that they misinformed masses in their blog?
  8. I'm glad to inform that you are right, and after manually installing Office 2007 patches scan for new updates went smoothly and they installed flawlessly. I'm also glad to inform that after recent updates, Avast! will most likely stop troubling your updates. Besides, I'm not sure how Compatibility Pack 2007 patches should apply to Office 2007. I've downloaded all of them listed by Bersalgio, and KB3191828, KB3203436 and KB3203438 got installed. KB3127894 thrown error that there is no program installed that it should apply to. Microsoft on their blog (link below) shows KB3203438 and KB3127894 as applicable for office 2007, so i understand nothing...
  9. @Bersaglio did a good list, that lacks items I needed the most - For office 2007. So i did, and you have files listed below. I couldn't find such elegant links for executables, so I provide links to cab packages from windows update with exception to one that has many language versions - there you have catalog list. Keep in mind that all files are not necessary - you don't need update for Outlook 2007 if you have home version of Office. http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/usp10-x-none_c40622c2ad28b969494669576cb709fd465e0970.cab KB3191837 Office 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/word-x-none_e3617c5534b1f74f177c9f3babe85ca7049864b4.cab KB3203441 Word 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/mso-x-none_91008015358f13ca21c9fb565196092cbbc289f2.cab KB3203436 Office 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/powerpoint-x-none_b52bee6af81ba748908e91257b1b7e7efebe8f42.cab KB3127888 PowerPoint 2007 http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3118304 KB3118304 Office 2007 Many language versions-choose yours http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/06/outlook-x-none_9074b332e588526264deb590fd6f9f90f6f5b5ed.cab KB3191898 Outlook 2007 http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/05/ogl-x-none_f5a7344d79b930abdebcd8b9ca47978fb83d94cf.cab KB3191828 Office 2007 Hope I made no mistake :>
  10. WMF 4 updates to Powershell 4 WMF 5 Updates to Powershell 5 While your old cmdlets will get updated to their newest standard, keep in mind that some newer cmdlets require system elements of Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 in order to be run and won't be visible. as about WMF 5.1, all your questions are resolved below: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/wmf/5.1/release-notes So it seems it's enough to install WMF 5.1 over WMF 4.0 OR WMF 5.0. Not both.
  11. Well, if you -have the registry set up, as described in the first post. -have the MSI 4.5 installed (and I think you've said you have) -Have the updated Internet explorer (And i remember You've been receiving the updates until they suddenly stop working) Then, well, that's all I ever did myself. The only thing I can recommend then is to go back to system restore point prior to the problem (keep in mind that if the problem started long ago, this is rather a bad advice). I keep my XP updated, because I'm a paranoid and it's used by my relatives, that are not geeky, so I want these security updates. However, for most people being hidden behind well-configured router and following basic security rules (do not open suspicious e-mail and attachments, do not install untrusted things, use strong passwords etc.) should be enough to survive. Keep in mind that it's been more than 3 years since XP lost official support, and we had seen no big attack targeting XP users. WannaCry was a medial issue, but this is a case when home networks shouldn't be even vulnerable. So, If you backtrack all the possible failure points and still nothing helps, no updates are coming, don't rush for reinstallation or Windows 10. Many machines are running XP with no Unofficial service pack 4 and keeping fine
  12. Can't say about UDF, but exFAT should be suitable solution, if what you ned from NTFS is capability to store big files. exFAT drivers should be installed for every Windows from XP up, and installing them on Linux should not be a big deal :>
  13. Don't you block the cookies? Information, that you confirmed information about the cookies is stored in eh... cookie
  14. Uh, how many of home users use RDP? I'd say disabling it seems to be pretty wise security advice.
  15. Cannot reproduce the issue on Polish XP as well. News informed about Moldavian government. I cannot find whether there were Moldavian edition of XP or were they using some other national edition (maybe Russian or Romanian)?
  16. Not sure how Avast! looks like on Windows 95, but If there is an option to view it's firewall logs, we'd like to have an insight to them (at least to the part showing what happened when you tried printing). Did the problem start form some particular point in time, or is it happening since the Avast! and printer are both present?
  17. It means Home XP was provided with patch that blocks WannaCry spread via SMBv1 and not a bit more. Home XP got update from march. POSReady got new update in may, fixing another flaw.
  18. Link to older post from 2014. looks like bad quote tag editing makes some trouble.
  19. It DOES, however, some IT news sites reports that due to high interest in patching corporate system it is overloaded by the amount of traffic.
  20. We can get away with POSready-ing our home XP's but imagine that whole, let say, British NHS is going to use this trick, and how many lawyers' bul***** might be thrown into when M$ will realize that thousands of machines are getting updates that no one have paid form :>
  21. It seems I've forgotten to put smiley at the end of the quoted sentence
  22. This is ransomware. So if: - they don't have backup (Basing on their panic, they don't); - shadow copy is off or deleted (and WannaCry deletes shadow copy); - there is no known decrypter (and since it uses RSA 2048, it can't be done easily); The only thing that could be done is to try to pay ransom. But since it's author is probably chased by major national investigation bureaus, I bet he shut his services down. I didn't find any 'universal' decryption method in the internet, and if any will appear, major IT sites will inform about it within minutes. We can only hope author will release his key pairs hoping to take down the chase. http://elkews.com/preview/1390099
  23. Actually someone responded to your question: But I''ll make it a bit more verbose. In general, POSReady stands for 'Point Of Service Ready', which means it is designed for devices like Cash machines, ticket machines, and Endpoint for McDonalds employees. It is not designed for Desktop PC, it doesn't have some of Home XP elements, and it was never sold in retail version. It seems after quick googling that you can download an evaluation CD ISO, burn it into physical disc and install it on your PC. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11196 But unfortunately, it's 120 days evaluation licence. Maybe you can play a Warez d00d and get illegal activation key, but this will be... uh... illegal They were never sold for Personal users: https://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/purchase.aspx Some features might work or not work no POSReady installation, when compared to XP - best review Microsoft pages for list of changes.Example dorm this topic: O, besides, there was actual topic about that on MSFN:
  24. Oh, no one uses Googleless search engine. I do it on a daily basis. Must say, that sometimes I have to swap for Google for more sophisticated search queries. Also, DDG fails while looking for images showing 1% of what google does. But for regular things It supplies >99% of my searches correctly... and sometimes is much better than Google... I admit I use TrackMeNot to lie to Google. But still...
  25. Any project website, git repository or anything? Sorry, but such miracle solutions provided as a file wake my cautiousness.
