Not to discourage Sequoiaview (which I have never used), but it doesn't seem like a program with very intuitive GUI. I'm glad to inform that you are right, and after manually installing Office 2007 patches scan for new updates went smoothly and they installed flawlessly. I'm also glad to inform that after recent updates, Avast! will most likely stop troubling your updates. Besides, I'm not sure how Compatibility Pack 2007 patches should apply to Office 2007. I've downloaded all of them listed by Bersalgio, and KB3191828, KB3203436 and KB3203438 got installed. KB3127894 thrown error that there is no program installed that it should apply to. Microsoft on their blog (link below) shows KB3203438 and KB3127894 as applicable for office 2007, so i understand nothing...

I keep my XP updated, because I'm a paranoid and it's used by my relatives, that are not geeky, so I want these security updates. However, for most people being hidden behind well-configured router and following basic security rules (do not open suspicious e-mail and attachments, do not install untrusted things, use strong passwords etc.) should be enough to survive. Keep in mind that it's been more than 3 years since XP lost official support, and we had seen no big attack targeting XP users. WannaCry was a medial issue, but this is a case when home networks shouldn't be even vulnerable. Can't say about UDF, but exFAT should be suitable solution, if what you ned from NTFS is capability to store big files. exFAT drivers should be installed for every Windows from XP up, and installing them on Linux should not be a big deal :>

Not sure how Avast! looks like on Windows 95, but If there is an option to view it's firewall logs, we'd like to have an insight to them (at least to the part showing what happened when you tried printing). Did the problem start form some particular point in time, or is it happening since the Avast! and printer are both present?

It means Home XP was provided with patch that blocks WannaCry spread via SMBv1 and not a bit more. Home XP got update from march. POSReady got new update in may, fixing another flaw.

This is ransomware. So if: - they don't have backup (Basing on their panic, they don't); - shadow copy is off or deleted (and WannaCry deletes shadow copy); - there is no known decrypter (and since it uses RSA 2048, it can't be done easily); The only thing that could be done is to try to pay ransom. But since it's author is probably chased by major national investigation bureaus, I bet he shut his services down. I didn't find any 'universal' decryption method in the internet, and if any will appear, major IT sites will inform about it within minutes. Oh, no one uses Googleless search engine. I do it on a daily basis. Must say, that sometimes I have to swap for Google for more sophisticated search queries.
