  1. Thanks. I hoped that its quite often problem so exist some start and run boot cd to fix it, like Boot repair cd for Linux, i dont really want to knowledge, my business is elsewhere, im not admin or something as probably you, i just want to make it working. If create whole partition is problem, there is not simple 1 command / tool for it, is not better to way just copy something from EFI partition\Microsoft folder to other folder? What about Live Windows 10 to go USB and Hasleo EasyUEFI? Im using it when i need to change which EFI file should start, but im not sure if it will run from live USB. I trying to avoid partitioning etc from MS boot cds, because there are lots for my strange rules, when i cant do operations which are otherwise valid and also interface - Windows terminal as output sucks. For example i refuse to anything with bcdedit, because on some machines its simply not starting or working.. what for example why im using Paragon or Boot repair cds, which are able to deal with it. In reverse thinking, if is something so easy for user, why someone just write to script to fix it for everyone, this is not something too specific with zillions parameters, just check windows partition for target Windows version and ask its right one and copy EFI files to right place and it is needed something more like edit some config write few lines there. Im here simply to ask experts if there is simple way, if not well i can stay with Win8 or wait until someone will create something what i want, or at least i will know that is not thing which i could do quickly.
  2. Thanks, but its too general and lowlevel. Its BCDboot working from Windows 8 boot USB? Is line bellow what i need? bcdboot C:\Windows /s S: How to discover what partition is system S partititon to replace letter in code? Does it create partition, or it has to exist?
  3. Hello, i had problem with upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10 on my Toshiba Z20 convertable, because i had installed some Linux and MacOS on it and Microsoft is sniffing around and error code is generic i now upgraded internal storage to something bigger (i copied only Windows 8 partition for try), i just need to create Windows 8 EFI boot partition or somehow change to start Windows EFi instead of Grub which is targeted on now present partition. I now that desktop MBs have such prosssibility to select which EFI file would be started in EFI, but Toshiba has no such option, with lastest bios so some default EFI path is started, when i looked at EFI partition, there are lots of folder and i dunno which is default and which Microsoft files i should copy here. With Paragon USB booting Tool i can move files here, i same i guess with some Live USB Linux. I though that there would be some easy Windows 8 cd EFI partion repair options, but its not. I tried Paragon Windows boot repair, but its not erase that Grub code and other MBR codes repairs utilities are not for GPT EFI discs. So im looking for other way. Tutorial are usually about just restore accidentally erased EFI partition.
  4. Hello, i installed drivers pack "distro" is nice, but i have problem that dvd rw is in device manager 8 times.. i dunno how to remove it, when i remove it its redetected its Super Socket 7 MB with ALI Aladdin V chipset. Picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7icbe408tgxvd29/2019-06-30 16.20.11-Win98-8TimeDVD-ROM.jpg?dl=0
  5. Intel HD audio is no go.. my would need USB sound card and some USB ethernet and wireless adapter and which is working with Windows 98.. But regardless with such setup i would say that Virtualization is better, physical machine have sense mainly for good 3D graphics experience => games, i doubt that some would still model under Windows 98 or something like that.
  6. I did complete reinstall i installed old driver which worked before and its still not working, i dont understand it.. One more symptom is: Ipconfig prints: IP ConfigurationFatal Error Cannou read IP configuration
  7. It happens me again, some problem. Now its back in era old Super Socket K6-II machine and with Realtek 8139 PCI and clean Windows 98 Second Edition install. I installed Windows, there was no driver for NIC on CD, so nothing. I have installed old realtek driver for this nic from 1998, which i had on disk. Later i wanted to tune driver and it tried to install newer driver, it installed well, no conflicts, but again, i had some old problem. So there not problem with some network speed tuners for windows 98, with some updates or SP3 etc.. its broken i clean system. Machine is quite clean only Virge video card and network card.. Networking in DOS with native packet driver its still working, so card is fine and machine is fine. Ping with hostname - unknow host. Ping with ip address error 10043. So i tried to comeback to old driver which worked, and i have exactly some problem, as with other machines, once this broke im unable to fix it.. I still don have any exclamation marks in system, in Safe mode are not any leftovers of old nics etc. Even when now exclamation marks, i tried to change addresses for device, i was supprised that was some unmarked conflict with some Video card alias and VIA IDE alias.. but even when i try to change ranges its still the same. Any ideas?
  8. I have some Gigabyte and Asrock boards (Z97 / Z170), where connector is working for both device in parallel, but there is in Bios feature enable PS/2 Y cable or something like this. Rayer said that something is not possible because of missing wires and he had to do MB modification and add wires.
  9. I wonder if is possible to add PS/2 Y cable support to GA-X79-UP4 ? I tried 2 proven Y cable but only keyboard is working.
  10. @bearwindows Can you add support for Intel 219-V PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B8&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_00 ? If not ovelooked something, you driver is only up to 218?
  11. Someone found any work around? It seems that after that update Miranda / Pidgin are not working too, Web version give me -- that my browsers arent support.
  12. 10Gbit, so which cards are supported - i mean which consumer cards with rj45? NVME i know. https://email.seznam.cz/#inbox/43283
  13. Thank you very much, it just worked.. I wonder how such magic was done, just some ids replacement or some coding involved? Is this driver only for 218-V or it would work for all Intels 21x cards? Because im greeding, what about driver for some 10Gbit internet for XP? I think that they becoming finally available for reasonable price, and now when SSD are cheap and we are maybe to boot XP from NVME, that 15 years old 1Gbit speed finnaly starting to be bottleneck..
  14. Thanks, did you test it? I already tested some drivers, but their were not working.
  15. Not really, i always thought that there is some software CPU overhead for USB devices with high traffic, and that ping etc would be worse. Maybe im wrong. Driver could be problem too, but something with Realtek would be probably work from XP to Win10, in Mac OS and Linux. I even have one such adapter, but annoying is that is reported also as some USB CD drive, or something like that in the bios.. probably because these some storage with driver or something like that. Its annoying. There also USB limits, USB is 48 MB/s i need Gigabit so only USB3 and XP USB3 drivers are problematic.. I didnt tested it, but i doubt that cheap VIA USB3 controller, with USB LAN can make 90-100 MB/s network copying speed.. i can be wrong. Maybe, maybe ASM or Fresco chipsets.
  16. Any news or progress with this, its annoying have to fill some precious pci-e slot with just NIC.. Otherwise i found similar thread - no success: https://www.win-raid.com/t3280f45-Intel-i-v-driver-ASUS-motherboard.html On Blackwing site seems to be some modified driver, but i not able to identify any download link with Google translated version of page: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1883591.html
  17. I tried someone gaming on Win NT4 i know that is not primary designed for that, but im curious which games worked and how bad it was?
  18. Hello, i started to experimenting with NT4 but i missing device manager from Win95/98+ is there any way how to use it, or some 3rd party replacement?
  19. Ok, my GB 170 MB ACPI bios seems to be fixed, at least all other issues seems to be ok, but Aureal Vortex 1 sound with PAE patch is still broken, in 32 bit with ACPI mode its still ok, KVM what could input, output isssue? I experimented with Unraid for while, its KVM, QEMU based and this was nightmare..
  20. Heureka, WinXP are back on menu boys! With new non-alternative Z170 Bios file, WinXP browsers etc.. are fully working, even with PAE 4+ GB patch. Daniel, you are great! Could you pleas do same black magic for my Z370 MB bios?
  21. VIA USB3 was tested on M B with fully working ACPI. Aureal Vortex 1, was tested on patched Z170 ACPI BIOS, but we found some issues, it could be one of them, but probably not, because in 32bit mode it working fine and problem is only in 64 bit mode and there are not conflicts in device manager. Are you really using it? Or you only thing that is good? You know, lots of people try it for moment, or see some pro Linux video, which is ignoring some flaws etc.. I suppose that GPU passthrough is working, because i case mainly about games? Its monitor picture output handling solved, or you need on passthrough GPU connected to its own monitor / monitor input and switching them? Can i passthrough to WinXP virtual primary GPU and use it for system after guest is shutdown? Need i 2 gpus to make it working? What about performance impact for gaming are somewhere some comparisions of KVM and physical machine? What about USB mouse and keyboard - has they should be dedicated from boot for specific guest, so i need 2 keyboards, 2 mice etc? I they could be passthrough to virtual and back - like in Vmware workstation? How big is list of KVM Win XP issues in comparision with physical machines, is there somewhing broken? Some additional bugs or not?
  22. Sorry, i maybe didnt mention it here, but i did in thread where i described my problems, i tried clean installation with already patched bios.. in ACPI mode and problems are exactly the same. So classic solution.. if something in not working in Windows.. reinstall it, is not working for this. its persistent. But, i dont have reason doubt that way how to switch between ACPI no ACPI through boot.ini is described above is working. Because you are only one, whose is able to edit Bios, and have knowledge how to do it and what you changed, is almost impossible to help you discover where can by problem my 2 Gigabyte board.. it could be very complicated, it could be some typo, i can only say that with old version on your Bioses, there i have these strange issues with my machines and it in MPS mode are they are gone. BTW: Its possible on this MB, somehow in Bios completly disable Intel USB3 controller? Some MB has such option, but here i dont see that, ale there are only sub options.
  23. Ok and how to setup system to never go to standby? It enough just setup not power down discs or there are other / better way?
  24. Ok, i tested Z170 in MPS mode and all problematic application which are not working in ACPI mode are now working, what is also good that change could be done just without stupid reinstallation, by copy 2 files and add new line to boot.ini. For Multiprocessor MPS: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP 32bit Professional MPS,NOACPI" /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmps.dll /fastdetect Final solution would be fix acpi mode too and find out why its broken with it on newer chipset - its probably more than that ACPI table, or that table new some tuning.. I still didnt tested new Daniels bioses.. But i thing that is time to disscuss, what are disadvantages of using of MPS mode instead of ACPI, i already new this: - not automatic shutdown - worse on not at all Power managment - its keep adding stupid expected legacy pc devices to system as PS2 keyboard, mouse and Floppy drive, even when there are in system, that was typical Win98 problem - there are some System devices with exclamation mark, which are ok in ACPI mode - Rayer is saying that in MPS mode would be probably problem to allocate all IRQ and Resources.. Update: I found this on Anandtech: You are losing a lot more than just the ability to software shutdown. The APM dual processor HAL also does not have the ability to address more than 16 IRQs that an SMP system provides. Most basic x86 SMP systems provide anywhere between 24 and 32 hardware IRQs. You have much faster performance because you have real problems when the ACPI HAL talks to a non-ACPI compliant BIOS. Im glad, that MB is not defective and i did not some stupid error on my side and that is really something from on MB bios / XP side..
  25. Ok, i simulated some problem with Z370 MB with ACPI patched bios, when i run same installation in MPS mode, its working fine so its ACPI related. With Z170 in MPS mode, SDI tool driver download is now working, browsers too and Warcraft III demo speed is fine.. There are some negative MPS instead of ACPI machine type, but at least applications are working..
