instead of having to goto where the command prompt is you can open a command prompt for your cd rom or anywhere else via right click.

if i were you i would install ie 6 as some of your apps may need it and you need it for windows update, whether you are hooked to the net or not,if your apps don't need ie to work then by all means remove ie,you can always reinstall ie but with newer components instead of the older ones that come with windows.

it's actualy best to defrag when your not using the computer and when your not running any applications,i find diskeeper best for the nt oses and norton speedisk for win9x but if you've got antivirus running,leave it running,if you try to defrag with other stuff going it may take longer or it will complain and not defrag.

alot of stuff that is for xp can't easily be backported to win9x and tend to not work right.

well don't run pc2700 and pc2100,have it all one type of ddr,say your mobo supports 2100 then run all 2100,running 2100 and 2700 and 3200 in one board will cause problems so it's not 98's fault,it's your fault for mixing different kinds of ddr memory,i run pc3200 and that was with 4 sticks of pc3200 256x4.

that activation is for that install disk that you broke,so in otherwords you might be able to do but i would not do it.

try installing 98 overtop itself,also maybe one of your devices is causing the problem.

meaning it comes out in 10 more days

it's all to do with that usb mass storage device driver,win me and up have it already but 98 does not, thats the main reason you need drivers for 98.

unfortunately windows 98 se does not have that usb mass storage device driver built in like xp/2000/me does,windows me has that feature but xp's,implementation is quite better, win 98 se you need drivers no matter what,if say you had the lexar media jumpdrive elite,it supports windows 98 se up to xp but for windows 98 se you need drivers,the rest you don't because the mass storage driver is built into win me and onwards where on 98 se it is not,if you install the windows 98 se sp 2.0 rc1 it adds it but you may still need drivers.hope this helps.

this may not be prefech used by xp but it's better than nothing.

i never used firewalls for win9x as hardly any bad ppl attacked it,it's the newer oses that need a firewall(i never run one myself)

option 3 is not recommanded as once you put it in you can't take it out and you loose functionality,best to do option 2 for the system files only,the rest r not needed.

even though i don't use win9x anymore i still collect app for win9x,a screenshot would be nice,also that rapidshare is junk as dl speeds r crap.

i think cd 2 has bonus stuff on it,then again i'm not quite sure

the max 98 se can see is up to 137GB but with the sp that limit is raised i believe.

the last time i tried encryption i couldn't get it off and had to format to get it off

ntfs was never designed for win9x/me it was designed for win2k/xp

same here if we were a collective then opinions would be irrelevent and one choice would be used.

use the windows 98 se boot floppy not the windows 95 boot floppy,windows 98 fe is buggy and you should be using windows 98 se,the 95 boot floppy is the problem.goto www.bootdisk.com for a boot floppy.

it's actualy quite easy,just put it somewhere,run the exe and it will ask for a key then give you options n such but it will need your windows 98 cd rom for the cab files

i agree with tarun every1 is entitled to there opinion,don't take it seriously erpdude8 don't bash everything or you will wind up with nothing,hibernation has it's uses but for me it is useless but maybe not for you,that is an opion not a bash,geez ppl these days..very different then they used to be and i miss those times.oh well.

i totaly agree with tarun,hibernation is a complete waste,it is better to save your work then use it,what if you had a power failure,all ur stuff in memory would be gone,if you had saved it then it would not be gone.
