Cooooooool. I actually saw this page on some ISP commercial on TV. Think it was time-warner plugging their broadband service. The guy could surf so fast he got to the end of the internet. Pretty funny spot........ LS

Ditto - both of the above. Who has installed - dual boot or lindows all the way? What about apps - any report on windows apps running like windows? that is the promise...... Let us in on it...... LS

When you get into Setup - do Custom Setup instead of Typical Setup -- You will then be able to manually set all items. Also - this lets you select 'Run All From My COmputer' which means that the user will not need the CD the first time they try accessing Clip Art or whatever. LS

Just disable FastFind in Office. It tries to make and maintain an index of your hard drive - but it is mostly useless. LS

Similar to Big Booger's instructions but in 2002: Tools --> Email Accounts Click on View or Change and click next Highlight the account you want to work with and Double-Click Look at the Log On Information - Should have User name and Password. Below password is a box to 'remember password' Make sure that is checked. Now click on Test -- see if all is good. LS

Here is how you can fix the attachment problem once and for all..... (copied from the LangaList newsletter) -- LS This effects Office 2000 (w/patches) and Office XP. There is a simple registry entry that can be used to add which ever file type back into the OK zone. There are also a few programs out there that will do the same thing for those that don't want to mess with the registry. Here is my saved Reg Entry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice10.0OutlookSecurity] "Level"=dword00000003 "UseCRLChasing"=dword00000001 "OutlookSecureTempFolder"="CDocuments and SettingsDavid N. PolisterLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesOLK4" "Level1Remove"="exe;bat;reg;com" This is for Windows 2000 and Office XP. The "exe;bat;reg;com" information is where you can put whatever extensions you want back into the safe list [ie delete any extensions you want NOT to be removed].

Wierd aMb that you have Lindows but the very first 'Sneak Preview' of Lindows has not been released yet. Do you work for them or something? That would be cool. LS

Mine stays connected fairly well (v 4.6.0073) although I notice sometimes overnight I will have to reconnect. It goes into 'away from computer' mode and I think during that status it loses its connection. The way I understand that it works, it sends a 'presence' signal along with its IP address to the Messenger server and then pings every so often to announce it is still there. I think it might lose its place whenever a dynamic IP address change occurs. Anyone out there with a static IP address have the problem of messenger flaking out and having to reconnect? Also - a bard to Drewdatrip -- an IM post that you did not just tell the post-er to go get Trillian and the world would be rosie!!!! Call the press - - announce this from the mountaintops!!! :D  Just kidding you Drew LS

WMPlayer exists but it is not recognized.....????
LS_Dragons replied to Nunovsky's topic in Windows XP
Maybe PowerDVD has altered the file associations properties. To do that - find an mp3 file and do the following: Right-click the file you want to open in a different program, and then click Properties. On the General tab, click Change. Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open. Change it to Windows Media Player - should be located in: "D:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmplayer.exe" Let us know what happens LS -
But - did you check out the NAT issue I posted about. Apparently, with WinXP and UPnP - this makes a big difference. You indicated that you could send/receive files BEFORE you installed XP. I think you should checkthis out LS
-
Check out this article on ms.com It may be that your DSL modem or service provider could be implementing your service through some form of NAT service. Worth checking into anyway..... h*tp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/deployment/natfw/default.asp Let us know if this answers.... LS

You will need 'administrator' priveledges in order to send/receive files under XP LS

EXACTLY ---- these guys jut like to tease us! Show me the money!

somebody record/hack it and put it up on the forum. I have NEVER seen designer pu**sy before. LS

Ok - I got you. You mean the address bar tool bar (think that is it's 'real' name). Yeah you are right - that would be cool. If you like the program - email the author. I might do so as well, and suggest that for the next version. If he plans on a 'next' one. Since it is free - maybe not. I like leaving it in the sys tray and double clicking when I want it. Might be a bit hard to add as a tool bar since you can select different search engines, etc. Might give a try to 'custom toolbar. see what happens. I will let you know. LS

That lucent 'win' modem is a 'software' modem. many of them DO NOT work very well with XP. You may have to resort to a PCMCIA card modem for functionality. but go ahead and check the site. Sooner or later, they will have to do something to support those pieces of crap win-modems. Is it a compaq presario laptop by any chance? LS

what happens when you are in XP and try to play an mp3 or wma file? LS -
You can do that too, if you mean the Quick Launch Bar. Just open explorer to the search bar folder under 'program files' and right click and drag the exe file to the spot you want it and let go - choose create short cut here. If you are talking about some other spot - not sure what you mean. Check my screen shot... LS
-
Uh -- give it a try -- it can. You click on it and say 'minimize' and you get a little magnifying glass in the system tray. Click it and up it comes. LS

methinks he is going ALL THE WAY BACK to AaronXP's post about getskinned.org having logon screens etc. and saying they are all over the place -- which now they are. most all the sites you listed in your other post (those up and those that should be up again) either have boot and logon screens or links to them. Keep keeping us posted on themes - I LIKE THEM - and I will do the same. LS
-
Might be that during setup, windows does set up a RAM DISK - this is what lets it restart and pick up where it left off. I would suggest re-burning the XP setup cd. If it is 'real retail' - sounds like you are screwed. LS

First of all - you can clean up the Temporary Internet Files folder - without harming cookies - by using IE itself. Click on Tools Internet Options - on the general tab in the middle you will find a button to "Delete Files" ---> click that sucker and get your space back. As for the files in 'temp' -- I think you can absolutely delete any that begin with ~ For the series of numbers folders - specify what they are. I can be more help then. LS

Personally - I am pretty **** happy with my 18 inch viewable compaq TFT8000. Have it set at 1280x1024 - 32bit and don't notice any issues with clarity, resolution, etc. Viewing angle is fine - and this guy is 2 years old. New flat panels make this one look like cr*p. I am saving my pennies for one of the Sony 18 inch jobs. Georgeous! Saw them at Comdex and fell in lust! The extra desk space is worth any 'percieved' viewing issues anyway!. LS
