  1. My apologies Babis. I decided to uninstall and then reinstall using the new download - and as you said - the 2 new features were there. When I first tried - I just did a 'change which features are installed' thinking that the new items would be highlighted as not already installed. But there was no sign of them. Doing a fresh install exposed them. Strange huh? LS
  2. Babis - nice post - but I just downloaded the powertoys and guess what - no shell player or iso burner. only been a few hours since your post. bummer :cry LS
  3. ALL --- THIS (attached) is what an XP desktop can look like - clean and sweet. http://users2.ev1.net/~onthewall1/desk012002.jpg And to XPerties - I am going to have to get me some of that XXtra stuff. Maybe you should change your username to XXXPerties? LS
  4. Try D/Ling Nero (free trial) and when you install, you will find out whether the plextor is being recognized properly. And - AaronXP is right - you will be far happier with a REAL burning app than the weak sh*t built into XP. /rant To All - can someone explain to me why M$ is constantly trying to add functions (cd burning, media player, etc) but they can never get their heads out long enough to do it right? /end of rant LS
  5. XPerties --- WOW! Got a question fer ya --- what exactly do you keep in that next to last folder (on your screen shot) - the folder right before Zip???? :blueteam LS
  6. Xperties - the box my 'Office 2002' came in is clearly marked OfficeXP. If you buy the individual applications - they are branded 2002 - but the suite is definitley XP. LS
  7. check this one out. Very COOOOOOOOOOOL. Just got installed on ALL my systems - of course I am a Lord of the Rings fan since WAY BACK! click here
  8. Conan - DUH! I don't understand your post. Of course there are versions of EVERYTHING MS for corps that don't require all the cr@p that the general consumer has to go through. But what do they have to do with next version/diffs between Office 2000 and XP and beyond? No offense intended - just did not follow the point of your post within the thread. LS
  9. I attended a developer briefing on Office XP and from the M$ horses mouth - the MAJOR changes from Office 2000 to Office XP have TOTALLY to do with XML and integration capabilities with other M$ stuff like sharepoint (a groupware web service). For basic features that standalone users actually use - they did not spend ANY time covering. Made me think - Office XP was a release that was to allow the 3rd party developer community to develop the cool stuff that would spur sales of Office XP. Any thoughts???? LS
  10. check the file sizes of ntuser.dat for the user name with the problem and the others. I have seen ntuser.dat files grow to huge sizes. If the problem one is grossly larger that the others - just delete it (might have to do this via safe mode -> command prompt. You will find the file under documents & settings/username. LS
  11. double check the settings in your bios - many times, shutdown = hibernate and the setting is in the bios. Also - make sure your power settings are ok - check devicce manager and look for any !!! in ACP items LS
  12. no kidding. I saw that this morning at work - and immediately checked the keyboard connector on the desktop (which I barely use). No KeyChecker! Another good reason to use a laptop! LS
  13. thanks for the sum up XPerties -- I just kept answering questions and seemed like each answer generated a new - almost the same - question. LS
  14. DUDE - spend a few minutes reading through the TONS of posts on this forum. If you d/l a crack - it will come with the PID. THAT is the whole point of d/l-ing using gnutella etc. To be able to try out full versions of stuff before paying for it. If you decide to keep using it after you have tried it - ahem, that is up to you. Ahem. LS
  15. then..... ..... use the same search process to download the real thing - Office XP Professional. I know that is on Gnutella, cause I have d/l it myself. LS
  16. morpheus will work - the ones I mentioned are also gnutella clients. I have never used morpheus - but it is the same thing.
  17. You need to get eDonkey or Limewire or one of the other file sharing apps. Then search using the search term "Office XP Small Business" - or whatever version you have. You MUST be certain of the version, because the PIDs are different for each one. You might also try emailing the seller you bought it from. They should have included the PID with the system if they installed the software. LS
  18. was this modem 'included' with the system when you got it? If so - try the PC manufacturer's web site. If not, you may have to bite the bullet and go buy a new modem - a good time to do so if you end up having to do this. I have seen pretty good equip at Fry's for under $20 lately. LS
  19. The company that makes the puter should be able to get you the proper codes. I know that infrequently (but it does happen) the replicators that do the software for MS - that goes to OEMs - will produce faulty kits - with no COA labels etc. If you bought the PC from a Dell or Compaq or any other manufacturer - they will be able to provide you with the COA codes you need. You paid for it - get the real thing. If you don't have success with that route - search IRC - you should be able to find the Product ID for XP Small Business that way also. LS
  20. is it asking for an ACTIVATION CODE or the COA (Cert of Auth)/ Product ID. The COA/PID will be in the form _____-_____-_____-_____-_____ The product will not even load without the PID entered. If it is the activation code - just activate it. This code is generated after the product is installed. Be connected to the internet and tell the Office Activation Wizard to do its thing. LS
  21. the theme is a StyleXP theme. The name of it is ChaNinja. You can download it from www.themexp.org. You will need StyleXP installed before it will work. The wallpaper you will need to get as XPerties suggested. LS
  22. Got an actual model number or something for the modem? Also - see if you can find a Windows 2000 driver - many of those work just fine in XP. LS
  23. Check this key with Regedit - I think you can edit the entry for current and make your change 'stick'. Be sure to backup registry before attempting. HKEY_CURRENT_USERAppEventsSchemesApps.DefaultSystemStart LS
  24. I have beta 4.2 of StyleXP and have never seen a nag. don't know what else to tell you.
