1. NO, Use VPC as a new computer.... Only have a stored image(ISO) if you need it...
2. Sorry if i affended you..... If you had read the Microsoft SP2 Deployment guide... It explained in detail all of what you are tying to accomplish.... I will even provide the link for you since you don't have time to search for 2 minutes.... Deployment Tools The Windows XP Corporate Deployment Tools (deploy.cab) assists system administrators in installing Windows XP on multiple computers. This file contains updates to Setup Manager, the Sysprep utility, and related documentation. For more instructions on how to use the tools and perform an unattended setup, read "Windows Corporate Deployment Tools User's Guide" (deploy.chm). This help file is included in the deploy.cab. Note: The Corporate Deployment Tools are also available on the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD in the \support\tools directory.
3. I had about 40, yes i said 40 Dell GX 260's that did the same thing... my only recource was to start from scratch... BTW NETWORK CABLE SHOULD NEVER BE PLUGED IN DURING INSTALL.... Your firewall won't be started.... and even if you don't use one... you Virus protection won't be either.
4. First i would say that you need to STOP POSTING MULTIPLE THREADS FOR THE SAME TOPIC!!!! Follow thru with one thread... keep people posted... This is the 3rd tread i have seen for the same issue....
5. YES, USE NLITE !!!!!!!!!! It will automate the process, make it faster............then if you need more programs added, then add manually.
6. What are you asking it to boot????? Check under "Floppy" and "CD" sections for an image/physical drive that it is holding on to... If nothing is there then the "Virtual" computer is toasted... try re-installing. BTW make sure if you are using an ISO image that is larger than 2GB, you use a separate emulator... i.e. DEAMON tools, Alcohol 120... mount as physical drive, then use physical drive in VPC... PM me if you have more questions, or get stuck.... I have full version an use it to test all kinds of programs....
7. I have made over 15 autorun files with the AutoplayMenu Builder...... No ugly borders.... shows exactly as i created it....
8. Hey I got an idea..... How about you either SEARCH the forum before you post or..... SEARCH microsoft before you post..... To put it blatently...... SEARCH FIRST.... you know BEFORE YOU POST.
9. Are you makeing sure you copied ALL of the files to the Root of your disk?? Paths are correct? All files from CD are there??
10. Here is some info from the ref.chm -> SP2 Deployment Guide. AutoLogon Configures the computer to log on once with the Administrator account. Syntax AutoLogon = Yes | No Values Yes Configures the computer to log on once with the Administrator account. No Does not automatically log on to the computer. Default Value No Example AutoLogon = Yes Registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AutoAdminLogon Dependencies If AdminPassword is set to blank, null, or not set, the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AutoAdminLogon (controlled by AutoLogon) is set to 0 (false) which disables the automatic Administrator account logon feature. Comments The entry is not valid on upgrades. When you set AutoLogon to Yes, you cannot log off. If you try to log off, you will be logged back on automatically. The only way to log off is to reboot, which decrements the value of AutoLogonCount. If you specify a password in the AdminPassword entry, Setup uses that password when you log on automatically to the computer. After the installation finishes, Setup deletes the password from the copy of the answer file left on the computer. Important Encrypting the Administrator password in the EncryptedAdminPassword entry disables AutoLogon. To skip Windows Welcome, set UnattendSwitch to Yes in the [Unattended] section of Unattend.txt. If you wish to log on automatically after running Sysprep in Factory mode, set AuditAdminAutoLogon to Yes in the [ComputerSettings] section of Winbom.ini. Return to top AutoLogonCount Specifies the number of times that the computer automatically logs on with the specified Administrator account and password. Syntax AutoLogonCount = integer Value integer Example AutoLogonCount = 5 Registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AutoLogonCount Comments The value decrements after each logon, and WinLogon disables the feature after the specified number of logon attempts. Requires AutoLogon = Yes and AdminPassword = password in Unattend.txt. If AutoLogon = Yes, WinLogon checks the value of AutoLogonCount. If the number for AutoLogonCount is greater than 0, WinLogon decrements the count and then checks AdminPassword. If AdminPassword = password, WinLogon uses this password to log on automatically. If AdminPassword = *, the user must enter a password. If AutoLogonCount = 0, then WinLogon deletes AutoAdminLogon, AutoLogonCount, and DefaultPassword from the registry. During the next reboot, the user must log on manually. Important The function of this entry has changed slightly between Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Please review this entry carefully before using it in your answer file. Make sure that the password for the master installation (that you plan to duplicate onto one or more destination computers) is blank. You must reboot the computer to decrement the value of AutoLogonCount. I don't depend on this working personally.... i have two accounts on my system ( mine and the wifes) but each computer AUTO LOGON to one of us by reg key. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DefaultUserName"="Brandon" "DefaultPassword"="klajgflafduq0t79365" "AutoAdminLogon"="1" Hope this helps.
11. Repartition Specifies whether to delete all partitions on the first drive of the client computer and to reformat the drive with the NTFS file system. Syntax Repartition = Yes | No Values Yes Deletes all partitions on the first drive and reformats the drive with NTFS. No Does not delete partitions or reformat the drive. Example Repartition = Yes
12. Can you show a screen shot of the error.... you know from VM Ware or VPC
13. I kinda like the nag thing too.... Do you think we could make it also nag a person before they post to actually read what is said, comprehend, understand, soak in, then speak????? Case in point...... Sorry but the "DEFAULTS" word jump out like a sore thumb.....
14. I know this late in the game it might be rhetorical to ask, but... Do you have a windows based data recovery program.... since you can easily access the Zip drive in windows, use a recovery tool then.... I had a Zip 100 Parallel port drive and I ran into a similar problem. I was able to use windows to scan the damaged disk; unfortunately my disk was too damaged for recovery.
15. First I would have to ask...... Why are you booting into dos??..... Troubleshooting???
16. Are these users on a network (i.e. Domain)??? or are they individual computers (i.e. home users)?? Are you setting up the AV software and the Anti-Spyware software?? If they are on a domain, setup a AV server to push out the updates. If no domain, setup the live update settings as best you can, since you can't lock it out, and hope for the best.
17. YES, very simple.... "show extentions to known file types" will let you see it's true file extention, so you can change.... or Click on "save as..." and change the "save as type" to all files then save with correct names.ext
18. Are you bustin' my Chops??? or just beeing supportive??
19. WHERE???? Are you talking about the Text Setup portion??? or the list of availabe boot partitions?? Before the Windows Logo comes up??? During the Setup... You may think it is easy to understand , but WE need more detailed information....
20. Too Many steps.... Use NLite.... It will copy the CD to your HDD, ask you for the sp1 patch, integrate it for you, and make the new ISO bootable. Very Easy.......
21. Yes, you can integrate, but you have to make a new cd image. And use the correct options or it will not fit back onto the same size disk.
22. I think you might be on the boarderline of violating the EULA. Where i work we had a simmiler problem with the WINIPCONFIG tool.... the one that shows graphically your IP, MAC and others... it come with 98/ME, but not in 2K, and we wanted to use it. we were told by microsoft that this would be in violation of our EULA to cosslevel the program.
23. I know this has already been discused before.... please search the fourm first
24. Are you actually using the Active desktop, or is it just on. Active Desktop uses to much memory for my taste.... I think i had the dame problem with the icons also.
