  1. Hi blackwingcat, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Migrating apps would be great but I think you should contact the developers so that your hard work may not become void after the next update and they may even give you hints what is best to do/add !! Getting a state-of-the-art browser to (really) work would be a dream come true !! Thx, MiKl
  2. Hmmm, yes but there seem to be only a handful of people actually able and interested in doing so !! I surely can't So it may be useful to close some of the biggest gaps. The other day I was looking at ntdll.dll. In Win98SE and ME it is only 20 kB big but in Win2000 already more than 500 kB !! Thx, MiKl
  3. Hi BlackWingCat, it will surely be a lot of work but could it maybe be possible to create a kernel32.dll integrating functions from ME, Win2000, XP for Win95/98 ?? Thx, MiKl
  4. Something learned again - I would have never thought that an App which has to be installed in XP-comp-mode could work then at "default" !! Thank you very much.
  5. Thank you, Schwups. Unfortunately I have to admit that I never fully understood the procedure so I would like to ask what to do next. I put the API's that you have found into kext, right ? But if it still does not work without any definitions ... ? I tried to get VLC 2.1 running with msvcr70 and it indeed installs and starts but could not display any file - regardless of format. Will test msvcr71 later today because it was recommended by Jumper earlier in this thread. Maybe the internal codecs are now way to new for Win98 ?! The latest K-lite codec pack that can be installed is 7.1 which is now more than two years old. Thx, MiKl
  6. Is it maybe possible to get this baby running ?? http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1591031 It installs in comp-mode but complains on start about uxtheme.dll. Thx, MiKl
  7. Any news ?? What happended to Leyok ?
  8. Well, for the web you should install NoScript (still supported, current version 2.6.7.1) and Adblock Plus (last version 1.3.10, but still usefull) in your browser !! (Or similar apps, of course) I am visiting sometimes doubtful websites ;-) but with these apps running I never had a problem.
  9. Is there a stable version available now ?? Best, MiKl
  10. As a work around I commented out all msvcrt-entries in kstub822 ! But hopefully Jumper can fix this.
  11. Well, it's been around seven years since Tihiy posted this awesome patch and I thought that maybe with a later svga driver it might be possible to get 16bit or maybe even 32bit color. Just a thought ... @ dencorso. AFAIK this driver should still work on 98SE so I wanted to test it. But is it not allowed here to continue a thread beyond the original question ?? If I am able to get a better color resolution working is this not something worth to post about ?? I am quite confused about what you are trying to do here.
  12. Anyone have or know where to find Standard VGA Graphics Adapter 5.2.3790.0 ?? Thx, Mikl
  13. Wow, thank you very much Schwups and Tihy, of course !! But why the heck did I not found this thread with the forum search ??
  14. I would strongly suggest using NoScript !! And for stuff that you can't get rid off with NoScript - also AdBlockPlus !! I am a movie buff and the German database OFDB is plagued with advertising, pop-ups, etc. but not with these two apps
  15. Hi Guys, sorry if this had been discussed before but I searched the forum and did not found a post regarding this. Did not find anything useful via Google either ... My question is if it is possible to run safe mode at 800x600 or even higher ?? I tested vga.drv from WinMe but the slider is deactivated too. Does anyone maybe have an idea ? Best, Mikl
  16. O.K. - I have done some testing and it looks like as if the sysdm.cpl I used was indeed based on the ME one modified/patched to look like the 98SE one So, sorry for the false alarm ... But while testing I had these two (under slightly different names) active at the same time and I was wondering if this would not be a work-around ?? I will keep this setup for a few days and see if there are any issues.
  17. I have something like this working on my systems. I have a German sysdm.cpl (4.10.2224, 09.12.2000) active. It has the same size as the original so I think it has not been drastically patched/changed. It's been a while but IIRC the key was using usbstor.sys (4.90.3000.1) not higher (!!) and the 50 KB big usbstor.inf taken from the WUPG98 package. So far, all USB devices had been installed without any problems - but on the other hand, I have only 10 or so When I find the time I will test it with the original sysdm.cpl from 1999. Best, Mikl
  18. Hmmm, I think most of us would benefit if KernelEX could be updated to get the latest browser version/build as possible to work flawlessly. Maybe also Java 7 and up ? This is so exciting and I wish I could help but I don't understand one bit of programming
  19. I was also able to install .41 but I am not sure if it is really working !! There are several websites to check Java but I usually go here: http://www.chemgapedia.de/vsengine/info/de/help/requirements/java.html There should be anything displayed. Either a Java logo with a rotating effect or, if Java 3D is also installed, a rotating cube. I see the cube when checking Java on my XP. Can anything be done to fix this ? Flash and Shockwave are working. UPDATE: Deleting the next-generation plug-in from the plug-in folder made it work !! I see the cube again
  20. Hi Xeno86, as you can see this person was thankfully banned immediately by the mods !! And I hope that you still will be interested to assist Leyok a little bit in starting improving KernelEx. And thank you very much for this amazing app !!!
  21. Hi Leyok, I don't know what your priorities are for a possible update(s) but it looks like as if JAVA 6 U41 will be the last !!! http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_v6.jsp Do you think you could create an update which supports Java 7 and higher ??
  22. Using the new 'method 2' OpenOffice 3.2.1 and MediaplayerClassic 6.4.9.1 seem to work fine but now SeaMonkey 2.0.14 crashes immediately when I try to print Update. The new defs seem to work fine but 'something' in the new core.ini seem to cause the crashes !! So I am back using my old core.ini.
  23. Isn't that the same as if you would commenting these entries out in the stubs.ini ?? Jumper mentioned K-Meleon a few posts up - maybe you can try if it works.
  24. Hi Problemchyld, did you tested Ole32.dll and NTdll.dll from XP ??
  25. Hmmm, wouldn't it be a good idea if you and Leyok may work together to improve KernelEx altogether ??
