  1. Drugwash, if it is O.K. for you I would prefer first to test IFSMGR.VXD v4.10.2225 with cache delay 4000 because the HDD in this system is a 40 GB with only around 36% free space !!
  2. I think this may be a good idea because not everybody is as crazy as we are spending hours to (try to) fix anything but on the other hand I seem to be the only one who had 'more' problems with RLoew's great patch !! So it may not be worth the effort but maybe he will agree to include it ? By the way, I have IFSMGR.VXD v4.10.2227 from PC's service pack.
  3. @RLoew. The shutdown problem came back again !! So I tried to (re-)search all the tips and tricks about the Win98SE shutdown issue. Right now I am testing higher values for 'cachewritedelay' ! The setting was 2000 but I increased it to 4000. No issues since then.
  4. Hi Drugwash, thank you very much that you are actually reading my postings !!!! I agree that having a wired, real ps/2-keyboard would be ideal in this situation but I think since other keyboard-models in various combinations of keyboard and receiver (including the receiver that otherwise might have been the cause of the problem) are working absolutely fine on BOTH machines - an outdoor radio interference is the most likely reason for this issue with the 'Logitech cordless desktop Express'-keyboard.
  5. O.K. but what are the odds that two sets of the same keyboard are dying at the very same day although one of it was actually seldom used because it was meant as a backup ?? Batteries were tested/replaced during the tests, of course. The Logitech driver/software would have given an alarm anyway long before the batteries were too empty. I also tried going back to the original nvcore.vxd (82.69) but this did not helped either. Well, since other keyboards are working I also think that something must be causing an frequency interference for this particular model. Will try to get other combo(s) from Ebay later this week and report back asap.
  6. Hi guys, thanks for all the input so far. I spent a few more hours yesterday evening testing the equipment. 1) Office/work room. Here occured this problem. Right now I have a 'Logitech cordless keyboard' connected to the PC and it is working perfectly so I think there are no hardware problems in this machine. (I am typing at this PC right now) 2) Living room PC. Here I further tested the problematic keyboard 'Logitech cordless desktop Express' - in fact I have two copies of this model !! - On the one that was in use the same keys still do not work ! - The other one that was not in use and meant as a backup in case of problems does not work at all. Ha, ha, ha .... So I tested these two keyboards again on the PC in the office where the receiver is obviously working but no success. Maybe there are some issues with the frequency which this keyboard uses ? But I think I need to buy a different keyboard now. Do recent models work with Win98SE ?
  7. Quick update - but I am now even more confused. After testing several combinations of different keyboards and receivers/adapters I decided to get the whole set (keyboard, mouse and receiver) from the PC in the living room. (Although that meant I had to move some furnitures ....) and indeed this set worked !! So there is fortunately no hardware failure and I don't have to do some desperate measures like resetting the BIOS, etc. But, of course, I continued the tests in the living room and the problem is also present there BUT with one of the other spare keyboards - one that doesn't actually belong to this receiver - it worked again I hope that someone with more hardware knowledge than I have might have an idea about what is going on here ???
  8. Thanks for the responses so far !! My keyboards and mice are all wireless and their receivers are connected with small USB-to-ps/2 adapters. Those adapters were pretty common here in Germany back then in the transition phase from ps/2 to USB so I thought they were widely known. Sorry, should have made that clearer. @ netbookdelgob. I don't have much experiences with notebooks so can you maybe explain a little bit more what may have happened in my PC ? Win98SE did not hang/crashed. The keys just stopped working while I was writing some text. The mouse is not affected and works perfectly with the different keyboards/receivers which I tested. @ all. Would love to avoid resetting the BIOS if possible for the reasons Drugwash mentioned above so any other suggestions are very welcome. (I already completely unplugged the power cord after realizing that the problem also exists on XP.)
  9. Hi guys, earlier today without apparent reason on one of my systems some keys on my wireless keyboard did not worked any longer. S, V, K and a few more. So I rebooted but the problem was not fixed. I tried a different keyboard but that did not helped either. The problem is also present on XP. So, can a ps/2 port really partially break down just like that ? Is there a way/test to make sure it is indeed a hardware failure ? (I have not resetted the BIOS to defaults yet, I mean, it can't be that easy to fix or can it ?)
  10. Hi guys, as suggested yesterday I switched back to ME-extended code. No problems until now. But I am wondering why this problem keeps coming back on my Nvidia-systems but not on my ATI-GPU-PC ?? That one shuts down every single time for ca. 8 years now after installing all the patches/fixes I found through supportnet.de, msfn, mdgx, etc.
  11. @ RLoew. After a few days of use in one of my systems (P4, ICH5, GeForce 6600 GT) the shutdown problem came back with the ME-extended code ! So on Monday I reverted back to the code of posting 44 and the system did perfectly shut down every time since then. I have not changed/replaced any hardware in this machine. The new code works fine in my other, older PC (AMD, VIA, 6200). Weird .....
  12. Thanks for looking into this Drugwash ! Earlier today I contacted Irfan about this issue - fortunately he understands German very well - and only a few minutes later I had a VC6-compiled version of the German-dll (4.40) in my inbox !! Just awesome !!! And I am so used to the often distorted toolbar icons that I don't notice them anymore. So, I wouldn't say that I love this app but it does what I want and this new version fires up in under a second. I am quite pleased.
  13. Maybe related to the FastStone problem. I have noticed that on the new version of IrfanView (4.40) the German language dll can not be loaded when the exe is set as 'KernelEx disabled'.
  14. Unfortunately the bug ist still there with 4.5.2015.9 !!
  15. Edit: Audacity 2.1 works on my main machine (P4/ICH5) but crashes on AMD/VIA Same situation with the newly released 2.1.1 !! Anybody knows what 018f: relates to ?
  16. I have for months now a ASUS P5GD1 PRO mobo lying around and I am looking for a PCI-E gpu that should work without giving this annoying 'protection error' !! I have a ATI card that works but it has only 64MB and it looks like as if it will fell apart the next time I touch it. The NVidia is giving me the pe-bsod. Any suggestions or is this more a trial and error situation ?
  17. Dear RLoew, this code works great !! I did shutdown twice to make sure that I am not imagine things. Thanks !!! Follow up: Shutdown now also works on my other system with VIA-chipset and a GeForce 6200. And for later on: At first I made a typo at 144: D8 instead of DB and I did get a protection error. That gave me the idea that with changing the correct code in nvcore.vxd more of these annoying 'protection error PCI-E cards' could maybe be make working ??
  18. Shutdown works with this variant on my main system with 82.69 and a Geforce 6600GT. Will test the other PC tomorrow. This is so awesome. Thx. If you are saying that "32 75" does not work but "24 72" does and you are using 98SE, further testing is required. "24 72" affects many System Messages so it may have unwanted side effects. What works for you needs to be narrowed down. Well, when having "32 75" shutdown still is not completed and I am getting the black screen&blinking cursor but at least there is no scandisk on reboot !! Shutdown is succesful with "24 72".
  19. Shutdown works with this variant on my main system with 82.69 and a Geforce 6600GT. Will test the other PC tomorrow. This is so awesome. Thx.
  20. The new Flash 18.0.0.203 runs fine but unfortunately still not directly on Youtube !! I can play files from Youtube without any problems though when they are embedded at other sites !! @ Jumper. Are you still there ??
  21. Thanks for the feedback, Loblo. Unfortunately I do not like Opera so switching is not really an option for me so I hope that Jumper soon finds a fix for higher versions of SeaMonkey. Flash is working at 2.6.1 (and surely later versions) again. Maybe NtSetInformationProcess does not cause this crash because you are on ME ??
  22. @ Jumper. To make sure that there is not something really wrong with my system/setup I have tested the Flash issue with K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta2. According to their website this version is based on Seamonkey 2.0.11. and Flash is not working there either. But during these tests I have noticed that one added stub for K-Meleon is crashing Sumatrapdf ! After commenting out NtSetInformationProcess Sumatrapdf works again. Not that important (for me) but maybe you can find a fix ?
  23. Anybody else having issues with Flash at Youtube ?? The player does not start - in fact the field just stays pitch black !! Flash is working on every other site I tested it with. IMDB, Bandcamp, Arcor, .... I guess Youtube just stopped supporting my old SeaMonkey 2.0.14. Jumper, in case you are reading this. Are there any chances that with one of the next updates of KernelEx the bookmark issue of higher versions of SeaMonkey (and IIRC other browsers) can be fixed ??
  24. New Flashplayer 18.0.0.194 is working beautifully !!
  25. After downgrading the system iphlpapi.dll to version 4.90.3001.2 and changing GetAdaptersAddresses to 't5' instead of 'iphlpapi4:' in Kstub.ini Flash is working again. Thx !
