  1. So here's what we know. Roytam1's builds of New Moon 28 x64 work and can use MP4 codecs out of the box. But Pale Moon 28 Beta does NOT work at all, despite Moonchild saying to the contrary. :o
  2. But does the MP4 codecs work without installing LAV codecs? Has anyone tried? I know that Roytam1's v28 builds work.
  3. So where was it defined (and it was) that UXP wound NOT work under Vista? Because it seemed to create a lot of FUD.
  4. It appears Vista WILL run Pale Moon 28 according to Moon-Marcus. https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19524 Go figure. Now just to get codecs working in the x64 version.
  5. Seems Moonchild has different ideas on Pale Moon 28 support for Vista. https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19524 It appears now that (despite features being limited on Vista) that Pale Moon 28 WILL run. Perhaps Basilisk won't, but Pale Moon will. Now I'd like to find a way to get MP4 codecs works on the x64 production version. :(
  6. So that means a beta 28 now for New Moon? Maybe? LOL I was going to say that v28 has improved Pale Moon A LOT
  7. I just wanted to say I found this thread very refreshing. ooops!
  8. Yeppers - I've been entering the page number in the URL each time
  9. I've been running the New Moon 28 Sneak Peek for a few days now. I upgraded to the last build from a day or so ago, but the New Tab Page changed a tad (it added a Search bar like Australis builds did and increased the size of thumbnails). I went back to the previous v28 build and that's running great. Apparently, the v27 builds now work again with Facebook, but I find that v28 works so well, that I'm going to stay put. :)
  10. Well that does instill some confidence. I must admit though I am REALLY concerned with NoelC's findings. I thought that Windows 8 felt slower in March before I switched back to Vista on this old PC. And Vista seems more sluggish than I once remember it being. The only hope is that the cumulative update that NoelC installed had some other crap in it that is slowing him down. Whereas, I was only installing the Security Only update.
  11. What I had planned to do this time around was, install Windows 8, install all of the updates up to the point of EOL (January 2016), and then start with the most recent manual updates. I would install all of December 2017, then November, then October, ...etc .... Eventually there are superseded updates that won't require installation, because I installed them in a newer patch. Does anyone think that's a good strategy? I thought it might keep the component store smaller, and only install updates I really need.
  12. I installed New Moon 28. Works great on Vista. Renders a good deal better (and slightly faster). My tabs (when using the FoxE9 add-on) tend to look a bit big, but I'll live ....lol
  13. But now it's not working properly again on Facebook. You can't choose reactions and videos seem to go full screen play with no transport controls. I extracted Roytam1's 28x pre-release version. It works pretty much perfectly.
  14. I've just extracted the New Moon 28 x64 build over top of New Moon 27.9. It works perfectly. My only issues are that I run the FoxE9 extension (which mimics the appearance of IE 9 - really cool), but the tabs are thick and large. But hey, I'll deal. Everything else works great! :)
  15. Great! Now Facebook Reactions have stopped working on New Moon. How decent is version 28 for day to day use?
  16. Well January 2020 is just over a year and a half away. That's a blink of an eye when you're going on with life. So I would plan. @wykchari: If you can source a license for Windows 8 (as in the original - I refuse to call it 8.0 because no such thing exists), that could work for you. I was running Windows 8 on a NetBurst based Xeon CPU (basically a hyperthreaded P4), so that should work for you. Then just mosey over to our thread called "Server 2012 Updates on Windows 8". I'd link it for you, but right now, several people are getting a "403 Forbidden" error when they try that. Any way, follow that advice - and now you're good until October 2023. What is it that you personally know about this? I'm just curious to be honest.
  17. Sorry @Tripredacus: I just tried posting in a thread, and I get the 403 Forbidden Fruit Error - and yes I pressed Ctrl F5 first. I think this appears too universal to be a browser issue. (Edit: if you link a site, that's when you get the error)
  18. I responded to you in another thread. This really concerns me. I was ecstatic when I realized I could update Vista and Windows 8 in to the future. But I also wonder how much slow down was accumulated even up to December 2017? Well perhaps I should only update to 2017 on my new Windows 8 installation come September-ish.
  19. Well, something in one of the updates did overwrite my patched uxTheme files, so I fetched those from a backup, just so my themes worked. I guess my .NET was all patched up, since the update did not apply. Otherwise, all is well in Vista-Land!
  20. Well I've reviewed the updates as best I can and have gone through with the installation. I dunno, somehow I feel as if Microsoft isn't leveling with us on everything, you know? Oh well (I'll let you all know how it goes.)
  21. Why would I want to still run Firefox 45 ESR at this point? What is the perceived benefit? :)
  22. See that sort of news worries me. I've gone back to Vista for a bit on this old system I'm on. In the last couple of months, I've noticed slower browsing, but that could the mobility-first developed sites overwhelming my older system on New Moon (Roytam1's Pale Moon build). I really hope that Server 2012 updates for the next five years could provide some benefit to Windows 8 (not 8.1). I'll have to plug my nose I guess. I'm waiting to do my new install on my newish PC, until I get all of these particulars figured out.
  23. I posted this info over at the Vista DM Forum. @townsbg was on this forum as well. Maybe he can better explain the complete lack of interest on this topic (post-EOL updates) on that forum which should be ALL ABOUT Vista. Even he spreads the pessimism.
  24. Why thank you John - and now !!!! Life may have just become a tad easier for Vista users: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/06/17/windows-server-2008-r2-switched-to-rollup-model/ Server 2008 Updates have also switch to the unified/rollup model
