ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Hello @Dave-H! If you have problems to access a particular website via IE proxy through ProxHTTPSProxy although the website works correctly through direct connection, then the SSL certificate verify should be done by the browser. When you don't want to change the proxy mode to direct connection, you have to add the entry onlyfans.com* to the section [SSL Pass-Thru] of ProxHTTPSProxy's configuration file config.ini as shown below: ### Bypass Proxomitron and the Rear Server, Proxy setting still effective ### SSL certificate verify will be done by the browser [SSL Pass-Thru] pypi.org files.pythonhosted.org pypi.python.org www.gstatic.com watson.telemetry.microsoft.com *.sync.services.mozilla.com onlyfans.com* I tried it in 360ChromePortable 13.5.1030 rebuild 7, and it works for me. One of my computers has two Windows XP partitions. Until now, I had installed Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 on both. I have now changed that. I have installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300 on one of them for a week. On older, less powerful computers, you notice a considerable difference. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300 is much more resource-efficient and lightweight. I loved to use it in the past, and now, I am able to enjoy it again. I am very happy. On more powerful computers, I would of course prefer Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522.

SpyBot - Search & Destroy Free Edition SpyBot - Search & Destroy Free Edition is an on-demand anti-spyware scanner. It searches your hard disk for all known types of spyware, adware and potentially unwanted programs. It offers powerful features to remove these threats and thus protect your privacy. It automatically detects: adware networks, attempts at host redirection, registry modifications, and unwanted changes in the browser configuration of Internet Explorer and Firefox. If an attempt is made to redirect your computer to a different Domain Name Server without your permission, Spybot can detect and stop this happening. It also protects your privacy by removing these tracks. SpyBot - Search & Destroy 2.4.40.0 is the last compatible version with Windows XP (and Vista) and free of charge. It still receives latest definition updates in these days as reported by @Cixert. In the past, I also liked to report errors that occurred in one of @roytam1's browsers. In the meantime, I have become wiser and always check first whether the observed error also occurs in a newly created profile. Only then do I report such an error. -

No problem here in the lastest version of bnavigator (2023-07-14): -
Microsoft's strategy is to annoy all users of older operating systems in order to get them to switch to their latest operating system. They "learnt" from the past to avoid such long support as it was in the case of Windows XP.

Latest Version of Software Running on XP
AstroSkipper replied to pointertovoid's topic in Windows XP
Boot-US, a well-known and great boot manager, developed in Germany, was updated to the version 4.1.3. It runs under Windows XP to Windows 11 in 32 bit or 64 bit version and receives updates on a regular base. It recognizes whether Windows is installed in BIOS or UEFI mode. The whole package Boot-US (GUI and command-line version) may be used in the non-licensed version on private PCs for free. IMHO, the best boot manager of all I tried in the past. I use Boot-US since 2005. You can manage booting of other OSs such as Linux besides Windows partitions, too. Partitions can be simply or truly hidden. It is possible to set exactly which other logical partitions may be seen when booting from a primary partition. It has so much features I can't describe here. On its homepage, you'll find all you need to know. Homepage: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/ Download: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/download.htm Documentation: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/manual_eng.pdf Cheers, AstroSkipper -
@Cixert! I should mention that starting with version 4 (latest version is 4.1.3), the boot manager Boot-US also supports booting via UEFI. I personally use the version 3.9.6 which is working perfectly on my computers booting partitions via BIOS. No need to upgrade. The whole package Boot-US (GUI and command-line version) may be used in the non-licensed version on private PCs for free. However, some features are missing such as true hiding of partitions. These features require a licence after 30 days of use, unfortunately. IMHO, Boot-US, developed in Germany, is a great boot manager, which I have been using on my computers since 2005. And I really tried a lot in the past. Cheers, AstroSkipper

Latest Version of Software Running on XP
AstroSkipper replied to pointertovoid's topic in Windows XP
I didn't check the installer version at all because I always use the portable version. I extracted KeePass 2.54 portable into my folder with all portable programmes c:\Portable, and it works properly under Windows XP. Maybe, the change of the installer is the reason the system requirements for KeePass are now Windows 7 and above. PS: I have therefore edited my previous post. Thanks to @UCyborg for this additional information! -
I use Boot-US for many years to boot different OSs from different partitions. I don't know if it is what you are looking for. This boot manager can be installed on a floppy disk what I did on my old computers. It has so much features I can't describe here. Maybe, you first have a look here: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/ And here is the full documenatation: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/manual_eng.pdf You can manage booting of other OSs such as Linux besides Windows partitions, too. Partitions can be simply or truly hidden. It is possible to set exactly which other logical partitions may be seen when booting from a primary partition.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
My sudden freezes last as long as I have killed the process palemoon.exe. The browser does not regenerate by itself. Restarting New Moon 28 then is no problem, though. But I can't really say under which circumstances this happens. Months ago, I didn't have that problem. Anyway! I'll try to observe that more attentively next time it freezes again. -
Spoken for me only (but I think many others may agree) I couldn't care less. I am not really interested in any skins or icon design inside a browser. The browser and its capabilities are what really interest me. And one thing is clear, the choice under Windows XP is limited due to well-known reasons.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Has anyone here also noticed a sudden freeze of the New Moon 28 browser from time to time? It happens rarely and started with one of the latter releases. I can't say exactly with which one, nor under which conditions this problem occurs. I am interested first of all in whether it is only me who is affected or others as well. -
Quite possible. But I do NOT use nor "support" single-process browsers in 2023! Unlike 360Chrome, everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to use Mypal 68 in single-process or multiprocess mode. I only said that I prefer the very stable single-process mode because of my low-power Windows XP computer. But this does not mean that multiprocess mode is unstable. On the contrary! It is supposed to be quite stable by now. With Mypal 68, the code, especially with regard to the JavaScript engine, which is now at level 78, is constantly being developed and corrected by @feodor2. Maybe, your observations in terms of stability are not up-to-date. Here is a link to the most recent release of Mypal 68 in the version 68.13.2b: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/releases/download/68.13.2b/mypal-68.13.2.en-US.win32.zip :OT I see you like my self-created smiley I allowed you to grab. Enjoy it! :End of OT

It would be strange if you didn't. That is simply not true. Mypal 68 is very stable in single-process mode. Moreover, @feodor2 has made a special effort in the last two releases to ensure stability even in multi-process mode, apparently successfully. And the best of all, this browser is actively being developed further . I personally do not use this browser in multiprocess mode at all. But all I can say is that Mypal 68 in single-process mode runs super stable and is the only browser in my Windows XP system that has not crashed once. I can't say that about any other browser. @roytam1's browsers are absolutely great, but Google service are always problematic on these browsers. Google stuff works without any problems on Android tablets and smartphones. I am additionally an Android user, and I am writing this comment from my Android tablet as most of my posts. But, I personally never used Google Voice. No trust, no need! I talk to others either personally or call them by (smart)phone.

Solution for the error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy If getting error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy, one should check or perform step 11 of my complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP. It has to be verified the existence of the patched file wuaueng.dll in the corresponding folders I mentioned in my guide. Be aware of SFC which tries to restore an original, old version of this file! After patching, restart your computer and check again! Now, the WU/MU website should finally work if there are of course no other errors. Cheers, AstroSkipper

Latest Version of Software Running on XP

KeePass, one of the best password managers for Windows, was updated to the version 2.54 on 2023-06-03. It is developed in Germany, open source and therefore free to use. KeePass is still compatible with Windows XP although the system requirements listed on the KeePass download page are Windows 7 and above. For integration into browsers such as New Moon or Serpent, have a look here: Homepage: https://keepass.info/index.html Download: https://keepass.info/download.html Plugins: https://keepass.info/plugins.html Installer for Windows (2.54, not XP-compatible): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54-Setup.exe/download Portable (2.54, XP-compatible)): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54.zip/download As reported by @UCyborg, the installer version is no longer XP-compatible, but the portable version is which I am using under Windows XP.. Cheers, AstroSkipper -
PassIFox is a good choice to retrieve passwords from KeePass. Especially if there are several accounts for one website. It works with both New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (and presumably in Serpent 55, too). However, if you also want to store logins in KeePass, you have to go another way. I actually use KeeFox in Serpent 52 for this. It doesn't work in New Moon 28. Both, PassIFox and KeeFox, require special plugins that have to be copied into the Plugins subdirectory in the KeePass programme folder. PassIFox needs the plugin KeePassHttp whereas KeeFox needs the plugin KeePassRPC. Working combinations for KeePass 2.43 I am using myself are: PassIFox 1.2.2 + KeePassHttp 1.8.4.2 KeeFox 1.8.0 + KeePassRPC 1.14.0 These combinations will probably work with more recent versions of KeePass, too. However, arbitrary combinations between extension and plugin do not work, which is the real reason for those listed above. At the moment, KeePass 2.54 (2023-06-03) is the most recent one and still compatible with Windows XP although the system requirements listed on the KeePass download page are Windows 7 and above. My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hello @feodor2! I would be very happy if Mypal 68 was completely finished first. There are still a few things missing, such as automatic updating of extensions, Internationalisation & Localisation, and so on. But I would be very pleased about further development on Centaury and Waterfox, too. The more different choices in Windows XP, the better. Especially if the coder is such talented as you. -
I also tried to reactivate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v2, but every time I wanted to update the virus definitions, I got the message: "Unable to access update server". The reason seems to be a certificate problem. This is the official statement: For fun, I also tried a connection via my TLS 1.3 proxy, unfortunately also without any success. The version I tried was Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.2.1.1043. The last database version was apparently 2022.5.20.4. Rest in peace!
