  1. Also, could you ask about the "Darkside" version of the logon? I like the dark theme!
  2. In Group Policy Editor: Computer Configuration --> Windows Settings --> Security Settings --> Account Policies --> Password Policy --> Minimum Password Length
  3. Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)?
  4. Office is to blame I believe; this process is harmless and the startup registry entry is automatically recreated. Here is a link to the Microsoft document explaining ctfmon.exe - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599
  5. XPize46SCR.zip - what's this?
  6. word2chm is something i stumbled upon once upon a time...chm (windows help files) are nothing but html files compiled into a single file (Compiled Hypertext Markup)
  7. do you have copy to/move to registry tweaks as well? they cause funny things to happen, or at least that I've seen before...
  8. If you installed the slipstreamer, nLite will do the rest when it's time to "nLite" the Windows XP Source. It will call the Slipstreamer automatically during the "integrate hotfixes" portion. Have you even tried to nLite your Windows XP Source yet? Just asking.
  9. Although the remove box will remove notepad.exe, it will not replace it with anything else. Someone long ago turned Notepad2 into a file to replace the original in the Windows XP Source that I currently use. Perhaps a function that will allow a specified stand-alone executable to become the new Notepad? What else could be added at this point except for possibly further breakdowns of what the current extensions remove, for example, the specific games, codecs, or even files that are removed? nLite is pretty solid. Perhaps more registry tweaks, more components (if possible), integration of the user hive cleanup service, integration of a driver backup utility to help find the drivers that needs to be included from the current machine, and as a ridiculous request, to patch the system files with Vista resources if system has access to a Vista installation (on another partition, like a dual-boot configuration) or a Vista DVD. Just thought I would throw that out there.
  10. Try installing Windows Media Lite: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Windows_Media_Lite.htm Perhaps this will prevent you from having to reinstall.
  11. It might be that problem concerning automatic updates; i realized that RyanVM's latest update pack contains the fix (kb927891). You can also download the fix directly from microsoft (google kb927891) and see if that fixes your problem. Every time updates download in the background or when I voluntarily go to Windows Update, svchost.exe goes to 100% cpu usage.
  12. I received this error while using the WMP11 Slipstreamer in Windows Vista Enterprise: WMP11Slipstreamer.ArchiveMethods+ArchiveProcessException: An error occurred while creating "wmp11.cab" ---> System.ApplicationException: AddFile failed with code None at Mischel.CabDotNet.CmpRoutine.AddFile(String filename, String nameInCab, Boolean execOnDecompress, FciCompression compressType) at System.IO.Compression.CabCompressor.recursiveCompress(String fileOrFolderPath, String stripPrefix) at System.IO.Compression.CabCompressor.CompressFiles(String sFolder, Boolean recursive, CompressorProgressCallback callbackMethod) at WMP11Slipstreamer.ArchiveMethods.NativeCabinetCreate(String cabinetPath, String sourceFolder, Boolean recursive, Boolean log, CompressorProgressCallback callback) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at WMP11Slipstreamer.ArchiveMethods.NativeCabinetCreate(String cabinetPath, String sourceFolder, Boolean recursive, Boolean log, CompressorProgressCallback callback) at WMP11Slipstreamer.Backend.CompressFiles() at WMP11Slipstreamer.MainGUI.workerMethod(Object addonSettings) Deleting "E:\extra\xp\i386\wmp11temp"... Done! The source being modified has not been damaged. All changes have been successfully reverted.
  13. Here is a WMP11 icon I extracted from Windows Vista (should support 256 x 256): Vista WMP11 Icon (256 x 256) Hope this helps!
  14. For the WMP11 Slipstreamer, there is a need for a 128 x 128 icon; does anyone know how to extract icons from Windows Vista and send one to me? Otherwise, could you please reply with how to extract such an icon and I'll do it myself, since I have Windows Vista Enterprise? Thanks! tap52384

    nlite 1.3.0.4

The nLite download has a new size and new md5 than before: MD5 - ce14ebb86ff290f1553f9c6efa97e043 Even when you install it, it still says the version is 1.3, but I would assume this is it.
  16. nLite creates a file called cmdlines.txt; this file is used for executing programs at the T-13 stage of setup, if I remember correctly. nLite applies some system settings at this point.
  17. I had a similar problem and gave up hunting down which Microsoft hotfix was causing my setup to hang at a particular place and loop. I gave up with the separate hotfixes and used this: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html This addon includes all of the hotfixes to date. Fixed my problem quickly.
  18. i thought it required two greater than signs (>>); I could be wrong...
  19. The only way to uninstall a service pack is to actually install one, instead of slipstreaming one. However, if you have SP2 already integrated, then you should check your manufacturer's web site for wireless drivers compatible with Windows XP. SP2 has been out since 2004, so any drivers released since then should work.
  20. Perhaps group policy editor (gpedit.msc)?
  21. read this - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/31/ Essentially, runonceex.cmd is called by cmdlines.txt, both which lie in the $OEM$ folder of your Windows XP source, which if it does not exist, has to be created. This page will be beneficial to understand how to call the programs you want to install, an introduction to application command line switches relevant to unattended installations and more.

    [Suggestion]

Removing the confirmation just moves the deleted file to the Recycle Bin automatically.
  23. I saw RogueSpear .NET All-In-One Addon, but I believe it does not include .NET 3.0...matter of fact, from the fact that there are no single .NET 3.0 addons on that page, it's safe to assume that it's not. I believe i'm using this addon already, which combines .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0.
  24. I was also wondering where I could find an all-in-one pack, but it seems to be difficult to do because of .Net 3.0.
  25. @ricktendo64 I am also waiting for someone to use XIS to make a Vista XPize; if someone could explain how to get the resources (I use Vista Enterprise), I could at least start the process...
