Maybe your problem is not with MDac 2.8 itself. As I know MDAC 2.8 needs a hotfix wich was released after the initial release of MDac 2.8. Try to use that hotfix instead and see if it going to help you.

Ad-Aware 6.0 Personal vs SE Personal 1.05?
Stuntgp2000 replied to durex's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
If I remember, Lavasoft told that it would cut updates/support for Ad-aware 6 because it said that Ad-aware 1.05 is better and will offer more protection due to it new spyware search engine. -
Your idea should be in 2005 wish list. But as far as I know, there is no such a way to patch windows from all known viruses. Simply, due to two main reasons which are 1) This would suppose that viruses have a specific known name signature therefore a ban list would prevent execution hence infection. 2) A virus is still a normal program that has an ability to infect others. But I believe, a day will come when we will see OSes with some features that would prevent most infections. For now, Stick with your favorite anti-virus and keep searching & imaging how you can contribute/illuminate people thoughts in develeping better Protection solutions.

I voted for XP; I am happy with Windows XP Pro SP2, although I still in love with 2000 & 98 but not Me. But believe it or not, the experience that Microsoft acquired from Windows Me was great. I think if windows me wasn't there we wouldn't see a XP like this. However, for those who don't love XP because they see it vulenirable, they have to keep in mind that there is no secure system; moreover, I think Windows Longhorn will draw a line in OSs history.

Help with Disabling Registry Tools
Stuntgp2000 replied to neko1437's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Use this reg file at your own risk. This file will add regedit.exe to restricted programs list. Will be unable to run regedit.exe, there is no turning back only if you use a third party program that may modify windows registry. Use it at your own risk Disallow_Regedit.reg -

Hi, I have just extracted DirectX.cpl form DirectX 9 SDK, so no need for you to download that huge file only or this tiny file. copy it to %windir%\system32 and look in to your system control panel. You will notice that DirectX Icon is there. Enjoy. directx.zip

you have to download MicroMicrosoft Visual Basic 6 SP 6 RunTime and install it during windows installation. this package contains : W95Inf32.dll W95Inf16.dll Vbrun60.inf Stdole2.tlb Olepro32.dll Oleaut32.dll MsVbVm60.dll Comcat.dll asycfilt.dll Advpack.dll One important thing is for non english version of visual basic, you need an additional file for example french vb version softwares need vb6FR.dll, spanish need vb6ES.dll and about the ocx, you don't need that ocx IF YOU INSTALL MEDIA PLAYER BEFORE YOU LAUNCH YOUR Programme. so if your programme use WMP 9 OCX then you have to make sure WMP9 is installed first. I hope I could help

Since you have a good graphic card, you can config PowerPoint to activate DirectX Hardware Rendering and to use 640x480 resolution.

Hello everyone I don't know if I did something wrong, but I need your info in this matter. I created my bootable unattened CD of Windows XP and It works without problems. It does not ask me for anything at all, however I noticed that if I want to install Windows XP after installing 98 ( setup run from win98 ), it asks me to enter the serial. Is this the normal action of Windows XP Setup if run from Win98, or I missed something ? Thanks in advance
