  1. If I were you I would look for a new driver for the Integrated Nic. Then I would check if my pc is set up to connect to interent by entering valid IP addresses (some routers/Proxy/Nat servers use only a range of IPs and if you enter an IP outside that range you won't connect) verify the Cable, it may be the source of the problem.
  2. Now I am 99% ok with you. the 1% left is for "Gates does not deserve any respect or credit for the creation of the Internet or Personal Computer's". that's not true. Gates deserves respect and I see that he means that Micorosoft/He had greate influence in what PC mean for/look to people today. He/Microsoft had created an envirment to help other PC industries flourish.

  5. but let's think, suppose at your company you could prevent a worm attacking your network. what would you say? I prevented the attack. but in fact we are all tools, a land can't produce anything if there is no water and so on. did you get the point, actually, it's not Gate who is writing Longhorn code, but programmer who play a role and who have their own purpose. did you know how many millions of people enjoy PC experience thanks to Microsoft. Sorry if i responded in a hurch way but I just wanted to be fair. No one is all good
  6. is a USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 compliant ? Did you download the latest drivers for your USB Hub? Is your USB Hub self power supplying or it take's power from mother board ? what is the name of the process that uses the entire CPU ? have you tried to reboot your notebook with your turntables unplugged? what are you PC specifications ? please clarify
  7. suppose you was at his place know, how would you behave? either you want to admit it or not, he has done a great contribution. maybe he is not the best. and no one is the best. but he still own the respect of many people.
  8. If think that you pc is infected with spywares, I prefer you run MS Antispyware in conjunction with Ad-aware & Spybot search & destroy. but if you want to be protected from spywares, create a limited privilege account, update your OS, use a good antivirus, create disk & registry backups.
  9. maybe your problem is in the code you haven't stated. for me the code above should not cause that warning. It may be also to IE settings if they are set to high.
  10. Hi everyone. I would like to run Automatic Windows Update in low privilege account and I don't know how ? Right now I can't use any Patch Management softwares because my central PC uses Win XP Pro and most Patch Managment softwares need a Server OS. Is there a way to do this ? Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks, but how, I don't know to do this. Please can you explain me more about this trick. Thanks in advance.
  12. here is a GPO solution (Thanks Monkeys4me) 1) Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc 2) Navigate to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options 3) Double-click on Network access: Do not allow storage of credentials or .NET Passports for network authentication 4) Click Enabled & then OK and here is mine (a registry key) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "disabledomaincreds"=dword:00000001
  13. Hi everybody. I've been wondering sometime now about a way of preventing MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger from storing account infos. I hate to see that long list of names when you want to sing in. Is there any registry key or something to do to prevent MSN Messenger from doing that ? Thanks in advance.
  14. I think SUS need a lot of system resources & a Server OS while my central pc is a XP Pro OS
  15. Hi everyone. Does anyone know a Patch Management Software that install patches even in a low privilege account. Why ? All my PCs have a low privilege account which prevent Automatic Windows Update from installing Updates. Thanks in advance
  16. I've made a seach on the issue and I've found that this error "Non-Emulation booting" appears on laptops that don't have a floppy disk drive integrated but I don't think this is the only cause & and I've found this "An unattended install of Windows 2000 can be performed by booting from CD-ROM. Therefore, your computer must support booting from CD-ROM and must adhere to the El-Torito non-emulation specification." and also "Anyway, based on this I think it is a problem with the Toshiba drive not recognizing the boot capabilities of this particular disk (I am also booting a slipstreamed Win XP disc). Other discs, including of course the restore CD, work fine. I noticed that the restore CD uses some kind of floppy boot emulation, while the XP cd uses "No emulation booting". Maybe the Toshiba drive does not support this (whatever it is)?... " Yes, the DVD Ram I've is a Toshiba drive. I'll report all I find in this issue.
  17. I forgot to say that this laptop have no floppy disk drive. and I created my cd with Nero using No-Emulation & to read the first 4 sectors.
  18. Hi everyone. I hope you have time to read all I'll write. I've been trying to avoid unattended installation from hard disks as I could, but now, it seems to me that time has come to face this issue. First of all, I had no problem with my unattended XP SP2 Corporate CD. It's a bootable CD that I've created myself using nero. I've made many installations using this CD at work by booting & installing from it without any problem. Yesterday, I went to install a laptop using the same CD after setting up the Bios to boot from CD first. However, when I went to install, I had a strange message from bios "Non-Emulation booting" and the laptop freeze. I tried to boot from Win98 CD & it booted normally. Then I tried to install XP from DOS. I have noticed that $oem$ looks like this _oem_ & long files are shown without the symbol ~1 at the end. 1) Is this due to non standard ISO format of my CD or it's due to DVD-RAM that equips that laptop ? or just both ? before moving to the next point, I've searched & found that I have to update the version of the bios in order to boot. the next issue is that to make an unattended installation from DOS I have to put $oem$ under I386 which mean I've to create two versions of the same CD one with $oem$ parrarelled to I386 & one with $oem$ under I386. But thanks to Alanoll this is no longer a problem. here's my question, Installing XP from 98 installed requires $oem$ under or pararelle to I386 ? because I've installed 98 on that Laptop then installed XP from it and I had no update nor any stuff I had at $oem$ installed ($oem$ is at the root of the CD) All I hope is not an answer to may two question but rather to see a sticky topic which explain $oem$ from A-to-Z used with different unattended modes. Thanks in advance.
  19. It sound interresting. I am interresting in updating my W2K CD & your idea look promising. but first, I think you have to attach a file in which you state the updates you have integrated in Hotstram Project. B) And since I am a french user I hope you explain how did you do that to help us create other languages of Hotsteam Coool, your Idea is wonderful
  20. What you have said is right only if you : 1) you are the only one who use the pc at home & and with knowledge of security risks. As there are an increasing number of PC users with no basic knowledge of security risks we can expect an increasing number of infection & attacks. 2) If you'r working in a corporate with a central Server that filter & clean viruses. However, as I said, it almost impossible to live with no additional security tools. But I agree with your idea which prevention is better than cure, but again it not always easy to prevent attacks. For example, today I was looking in Secunia's site for IE Flaws, after a complete day of analysis I found that what Microsoft suggest "Set IE Internet Security level to high would prevent most attacks" is not easy to do because when you set it to high most webpage won't load, they all need active scripting enabled.
  21. Hello; I didn't know how did you manage to include SP6 in your VS 6 DVD but I found it a very difficult task; Because I wanted to Include SP5 First, then add SP6 next.
  22. Hello everyone. I was just trying to download some SP1 updates from Windows Update Catalog and find myself unable to download them because SP2 IE with its Anti-pop-up blocked the site due to the reason that Windowsupdate downloads the updates in a pop-up windows. I know Some knew about this problem since it was confirmed by Microsoft which didn't release a fix for this problem. I decided to create a workaround for it. This reg file should be merged with your RegTweaks file. I hope you find it useful. Fix____SP2_Anti_pop_ups_may_block_Windows_Update_Downloads.reg
