I don't like it simply because they ruined the concept of serious OS if we go back to Whistler, many disliked that next version (XP) would look so painted and ugly and naturally Vista followed I greet skinning with open arms, and think that OS should indeed look more nicer than just plain old gray flat panel look but there should be line drawn to what is serious and efficient now comes 8 that turns workstation into child playground seriously Metro is beginning of crapiness this move doesn't make user focus on OS and/or how to use it but to most lazy ineffective cluttered UI to which even biggest id*** will praise but still because its Windows OS that will need HUGE maintainance and thus such user will complain for various stuff as it always goes with windows os... now many complain how start menu is crap and how this start screen is sooo much better well who says that start menu's function was even that of start screen in 1st place ? AFAIK and this goes since 95 era, start menu always showed all installed programs and additional features (accesability, system tools, networking etc...) start screen does not and what is even worse its ran upon IE which makes IE again needed to be in core of OS the next thing they brag about is faster search... doh there were great and better alternatives to this since ~2005 take UltraSearch for example, it reads directly from MFT - no need for databases or indexing or whatnot... and manipulates with files like you do from within File manager aka Explorer to me that they make Tablet UI OS for desktop is ridiculous, as much as I hate to say "apple got it right", but they did Desktop workstation and Tablet deserve separate OS-es, or atleast same OS core with UI that is made for specifically desktop or tablet now with all this web social bull s*** integrated, the OS concept goes even more worse... I just couldn't believe when Ballmer on last conference sold all that crap to people how all people he knows are now so "close to him" how virtual life and life are same I mean c'mon... sure technology and OS-es need to evolve but this is not the way... instead to patch NT holes they have they focus on... well I won't even describe it

wouldn't removing IE completely also mess up explorer shell view's ?

Where does Windows save the height of the Taskbar?
vinifera replied to dencorso's topic in Windows XP
no its not you can even enlarge taskbar more (same happens in win7), if you set your quicklaunch icons to "large" where they increase to 48x48 instead 32x32 thus taskbar gets few more pixels from bottom in height -
any chance you know where to "change" these options ?

why is pre-beta OS even suggested here ? its full of bugs

hmm I have recoveryenabled=yes but what purpose of that is if my custom DVD can't do repair at all ? i'm bit confused with this

OS can't complete mine because it can't detect what CPU I have hilarious since CPU-Z and Everest can also I find it quite dumb that it takes Final score based on worst calculation, you can have everything of 5.0 score and 1 thing of 1.0 and it will score you 1.0

how can I know if something is "programmed" in this BCD as you say ?

story goes my win7 dvd is rt7lite-d, thus it does not have recovery options on it now since I read that winre.wim is working(?) with that recovery thing on OS DVD, then I have no use of it on my hard drive so question is can I then delete it or windows loads this file in normal mode too ?

new Hardware and drivers will force people to switch year ago I swore I'd stay on XP long after its extended support ends... behold the irony, I'm on "7" now reason: newer Hardware that XP sucked with + GDI object limitations problems it has and were never fixed

Problem with image in win7
vinifera replied to halfevil's topic in Setup Billboard Screens for Windows
problem is in custom skin/visual theme that you use from image, I would say who ever made it, either made upper window frame higher so buttons don't align anymore or simply screwed up the positions of buttons only maybe I'm wrong... is this system wide bug or only on that setup/installer ? -
keyboard definitely offcourse not the cheapest ones that break up when you hit them but anyone who ever use(d) keytronic keyboards know they live live live mine is 11 years old and still kicking like day 1

not all are scam, but I personally avoid hyped products and stick with one I know for longest time (I won't advertise which is it) enough to say is, from XP to "7", it never missed anything and it isn't bloatware, been sticking with same product for ~5 years now use your product with HOSTS file, properly configured Firewall and a good browser that has popup/scam blocker

Defragging is/was necessary only because of Hard Disk needle time to seek/jump to locations, and when files are fragmented/scattered it took time... SSD's don't have moving parts, they work instant since its just... chip memory (something like that)

How to open folders with tons of files in XP as fast as other commande
vinifera replied to Kmuland's topic in Windows XP
its still better to replace it since Explorer will still be searching for it, in your case it won't find it, but is still linked to it... when replaced with dud, it will find it, but as dud's nature is, will unload it/self instantly you can alternatively hit ctrl+alt+del too see if anything else eats CPU time while your Explorer is lagging Offtopic: I even wonder would same thing help windows 7 too as I see same file in sys32 and loading thumbnails on any file lags Explorer too (tho not that much as on XP) -
I know, thats why I gave comment of "not answer he wanted" I had to reformat for same reason

How to open folders with tons of files in XP as fast as other commande
vinifera replied to Kmuland's topic in Windows XP
its most probably problem with VERCLSID.EXE I had same problem, until people here recomended to replace it with "dud" (google it) result was ultra speed browsing through folders with many files -
I used RT7Lite for that, left me with WinSxS of 800 MB in size yep I know its not answer you like but heck... if you want some things you have to find alternate ways
