  1. there are some simple answers here to complex conversation MS don't care for what someone wants, they are just like Red Alert 2 called them (lol), "MassiveSoft", they make massive production for masses who are forced to use their crap because they can because they lead in desktop market, as in their OS runs on almost any hardware and like 90% games are made just for their platform thus they set the rules so they can force "new" standard (they actually call this innovating lol) yep, thats the forced regime I'll actually use the last part with toilet on my web article (thanks)
  2. I actually had more problems on SP0 SP1 addressed some issues (atleast it seems so) but I didn't patch the RTM but format and installed "7" with integrated SP1 (btw I don't use win update, I'm sceptic about their patches fuxing up everything)
  3. if you want different UI, then you need to make new shell to make new shell you need to know programming and NT API/hooks to make it usable making custom theme(skin) alone will not make such radical change
  4. *small update someone edited http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?c2=11732 they prolonged the time now for all versions
  5. I can't remember when I last time clicked on that show desktop button in corner still using quick launch one
  6. the left nav bar in seven its more appropriate separated making groups of separate things while vista has it all squeezed together making using it like crap
  7. 2. so much easier to use not crowded and klunky as vista's they made it better by separating things in groups
  8. its a System process which should be shielded
  9. quoting guy from article... 1. has MinWin with kernel 2. much better file manager 3. not so agressive with RAM pre-alocating aka eating it 4. much improved taskbar, the old stacking was terrible and thumbnails in vista were useless 5. Win7 was built on top of Vista SP1 codebase, so yeah its better by default 6. is more modular with components/removal than vista is 7. ... ? I'm missing 7th well hell, you can say that for Vista -> XP, XP has capability of many things that Vista had ... this was a scam, nobody even wondered what uneducated IT people did they pick and what educated IT ones they did, and how many there is a way, but doubt you'd want to go that way Windows 7 build 6801, last one that had Vista taskbar in use (while new taskbar was disabled), and you still get Windows 7 explorer basically you'd run Vista SP1 with Windows 7 explorer and Direct X 10.1 but no updates would work that of Win 7 RTM/SP1 and you'd have a bit buggier OS with some features missing that are in RTM of 7
  10. I'm annoyed how in both XP and Win 7 (and probably vista is no better) you or if you make an app, can enter/login as System so easy security sucks in windows... heck just look how easy you can terminate PC, just kill crss system (its hilarious how you actually are allowed to do it)
  11. 1. how better ? O_o 2. not really, needs long arse indexing 4. so was XP 6. very little home users uses it 7. XP does not ? 8. what the hell ? 9. not by default, not to mention far better alternatives to IE... its ridiculous to even call IE an advantage of OS ... 10. UAC is nag free ?
  12. well Win7's taskbar was in beggining simmiliar to vista's tho it had more gradient look (M1-M2 builds) as for "lite", I agree here, AFAIK vista had frame rate issues with DWM, and honestly only with SP2 vista can be compared with Win7 for unknown reason it was slow to me, and quite unresponsive in some areas not to mention that annoying copy and delete bug where they put calculating as priority more than doing the **** job itself ...
  13. that will be their undoing
  14. a study is needed to conclude this ? ... oh my whatever... one can do it by simply raising hands and holding them for 20 seconds
  15. I don't like it simply because they ruined the concept of serious OS if we go back to Whistler, many disliked that next version (XP) would look so painted and ugly and naturally Vista followed I greet skinning with open arms, and think that OS should indeed look more nicer than just plain old gray flat panel look but there should be line drawn to what is serious and efficient now comes 8 that turns workstation into child playground seriously Metro is beginning of crapiness this move doesn't make user focus on OS and/or how to use it but to most lazy ineffective cluttered UI to which even biggest id*** will praise but still because its Windows OS that will need HUGE maintainance and thus such user will complain for various stuff as it always goes with windows os... now many complain how start menu is crap and how this start screen is sooo much better well who says that start menu's function was even that of start screen in 1st place ? AFAIK and this goes since 95 era, start menu always showed all installed programs and additional features (accesability, system tools, networking etc...) start screen does not and what is even worse its ran upon IE which makes IE again needed to be in core of OS the next thing they brag about is faster search... doh there were great and better alternatives to this since ~2005 take UltraSearch for example, it reads directly from MFT - no need for databases or indexing or whatnot... and manipulates with files like you do from within File manager aka Explorer to me that they make Tablet UI OS for desktop is ridiculous, as much as I hate to say "apple got it right", but they did Desktop workstation and Tablet deserve separate OS-es, or atleast same OS core with UI that is made for specifically desktop or tablet now with all this web social bull s*** integrated, the OS concept goes even more worse... I just couldn't believe when Ballmer on last conference sold all that crap to people how all people he knows are now so "close to him" how virtual life and life are same I mean c'mon... sure technology and OS-es need to evolve but this is not the way... instead to patch NT holes they have they focus on... well I won't even describe it
  16. wouldn't removing IE completely also mess up explorer shell view's ?
  17. thanks
  18. no its not you can even enlarge taskbar more (same happens in win7), if you set your quicklaunch icons to "large" where they increase to 48x48 instead 32x32 thus taskbar gets few more pixels from bottom in height
  19. any chance you know where to "change" these options ?
  20. why is pre-beta OS even suggested here ? its full of bugs
  21. 1st write your PC spec's 2nd write what is more important to you, shiny UI and new games or Work
  22. hmm I have recoveryenabled=yes but what purpose of that is if my custom DVD can't do repair at all ? i'm bit confused with this
  23. OS can't complete mine because it can't detect what CPU I have hilarious since CPU-Z and Everest can also I find it quite dumb that it takes Final score based on worst calculation, you can have everything of 5.0 score and 1 thing of 1.0 and it will score you 1.0
  24. how can I know if something is "programmed" in this BCD as you say ?
  25. story goes my win7 dvd is rt7lite-d, thus it does not have recovery options on it now since I read that winre.wim is working(?) with that recovery thing on OS DVD, then I have no use of it on my hard drive so question is can I then delete it or windows loads this file in normal mode too ?
