So we shouldn't challenge ourselves and just buy from MS? "the key to getting everything to work together is interoperability"? Sorry, I missed something there. What's he saying? MS has no 'layers'? no middleware? something to make something else work? MS doesn't do that? many permutations=more choices? "implementation and testing overhead" In open source, isn't most of that done by volunteers? Don't get me wrong. I don't know which OS is best. I use Windows because I am used to it. I've tried Linux and maybe one of these days I'll switch to see how well it goes. The only thing that puts me off is when I read something that talks about having to do several things with a 'package'. I never had to use DOS and for the little bit I had to venture into DOS, I didn't find it too friendly and some of the things in Linux look like crypticDOS to me. bin, jar, $, root and so on. With the bit I have tried in Linux, there were things there that for Windows I would have to go and find, download or purchase. DL
  7. I didn't get to far into it. Brought my computer to a crawl when loading a page. Sorry, not going back. DL
  8. <DL pulls out zodiac chart. Notes days of depression. Picks out smiley faces and mushy Hallmark quotes. Posts appropriate e-mails to self> I'm feeling much better now. Seriously, can someone think of a useful thing to do with this? @diesel_98a Odd but interesting find. DL

  16. @SCVic Nahhh, ain't sayin either, just give history time. You are right though, no place for moral or political *##@%&. Can't say that I have any connections in Columbia. The closest I get is when I drive through, on my way to Florida or Georgia. And by the by, I am no techie of any kind. I found MSFN, know a good thing when I see it and now I won't leave them alone. I used to live in Jersey. Near Washington, in a town called Oldwyck (was called Germantown prior to WWII ). Lived there for two years. It was really nice before it got gentryfied. If you are from the Jersey shore area or the Pine Barrens, the you still qualify as a flatlander. Welcome aboard. DL
  17. And a translator. Not tested or even downloaded. Here and check out the translator name. DL
  18. It is in referrence to an expression. When an idea is not thought through properly, it is considered 'half-baked'. DL
  19. @ SCVic prathapml has no idea who good ole Strom is or was. prathapml thought you were yanking your own chain. I don't know if I would be to negative about Thurmond yet. I don't think history has finished writing itself on him. If you can believe it, I had the fortune (good or bad) to meet him once. I was hitch-hiking and Thurmond and another older gentleman from Greenwood picked me up. Only got to talk to them for a couple of minutes and Thurmond's mind was clear as a bell and I don't think he ever forgot anything. I had lived in Greenwood at one time and Thurmond new some people I had known and what they had been up to. Including things that I had forgotten about. You referred to him as a hypocrite, justifyable. How many years did he spend in politics? Yes, he fathered a mixed race child, but he took care of her and her mother and he did this in the 1930s when all he had to do was ignore them and that would have been completely acceptable at that time. For some reason, she seems to hold no animosity. I don't know all of his doings but I think you can call him a hypocrite because he played both sides and did it successfully for a long, long time. I'm just saying to give time to somewhat current events and see what history has to say. So, you're a flatlander SCVic. I live up the hill from you in Hendersonville, NC. Welcome to MSFN. DL
  20. I'm to old to get nagged. Wouldn't put up with it if they tried. What I gotta do is lose a freaking 50 pounds! Once I do that, I'll get all the girls I want! B) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can start by fidgetting. You can burn off up to 10 lbs a year I read. Next, put down that Hostess Twinkie. Very awesome sister you have there. One more testament to women being underrated.
  21. Nice of you to put all that stuff in one location so one can get a quick view of what they have. And Picasa 2 is cool. Started using it a few weeks ago. DL
  22. Mercury Liquid. Definately. Very nice work XPero. DL
  23. @ el_diablo4303 If you are not running both hard drives at the same time, then you can't do what I suggested. Either way, what you are doing is graphics intensive so have at least 1.5 x RAM in pagefile. The site that puntoMX suggests has a lot of information that will inform you of what you might need to do and help you make the decisions you will need to make on your own. It's a large site, it's a good site. DL

    French Kiss

The term "French kiss" is so comon in English that I never thought about it. It has a particular meaning and French has nothing to do with it at this point. It is just a phrase that is practically one word. Instructions and meaningmeaning Googled the phrase and there were numerous instruction pages. You got to be kidding?!!!! I had to add "definition" to get that to come up near the front. Having read the definition, I think the French come out ahead. I'm changing the phrase to "English kiss" from now on. @ prathapml Could you imagine having to spit those things out after ending up with them in your mouth? Gack.
