  1. What prathapml said but outside the 5% group ( I guess I could, if I had to, compile that is. ). There are very few here who are snotty or arrogant. There are a few who are slightly intollerant at times and/or get annoyed, but I can't blame them. What you guys have to realize is that not only are you fairly bright but you think differently. You have an allacrity in learning and mentally digesting the information to put it in an organized form. You look at some text about computers and everything falls into a logical order and you remember it. I read posts that, for some people more than others, have come off the top of your heads. I read it and I can see that it has come off the top of your heads. And when it hits the paper, it is thought out and clear. You pare off the extranious junk and it never clogs your thoughts. It's shame that what really puts people off of Linux is that when they see it will take a little extra effort to get things up and running, it negates the 'free' aspect. 144 x 5 days = $720 tax free, from sitting on their a**, not producing a **** thing, whining about how hard life is (and this guy wasn't even trying to get any money!!!!!!!!!). It's more than what a lot of people make honestly. Yeah, I'm one of those a$$*(@s that just drive by. Once in a while, someone, for some reason, will catch my eye and I'll stop. But not often. 50% of the time when I have stopped, I've regretted it. Bogus sob story or there's something freaked out about the character. The other 50% I'm quite glad to have helped. Ok, mini rant over. No, it's not. He wasn't even trying to get any money!!!!!!!!!! $720 + $50 (4 packs of smokes x 5 days) + $200 (4 gift certificates @ $10(minimum) x 5 days) = $970 a week and not even trying. Arrghhhhhh. Does anybody here resent them pulling in that much? I read a story in the paper several years ago about an old guy who panhandled in NY city. He was there every summer in his 'territory' and most people in the area knew him. They liked him and helped him out. During the winters, he would just disappear. One summer rolled around and he didn't show up. Time went by and the locals got worried about him. Enough so that they investigated. It turn out that the old guy had died. In his winter home. A mansion in Florida. Don't get me wrong. I look, quickly. I know what crack-heads, bums and mooches look like. They have a a slightly better than a .1% chance of leaving a positive first impression. I've driven people 30 and 40 miles out of my way (one way) and given them more than pocket change. I don't mind helping those in need. And for your information- I have re-read what I have written, deletted and rewritten to keep some coherence to what I have written and tried not to offend anyone. MSFN fanboy DL
  2. I remember seeing that a long time ago. It will keep you amused for a while. Is it now part of your fantasies? DL
  3. I like how it says 'kill me' after asking for the particulars. I've only ever managed 3 pots of coffee (36 cups) and that's stretched out over eight hours. I start to feel a little wonky at that point. DL
  4. I have a 21" crt and use 1280x1024. It may cause some of the icons and the like to be distorted but other than that, I like the size of everything on the screen. If it is doing anything else, I'm not noticing it. The ratios above and below this leave things a little small or large. This and full mouse sensitivity so I can scroll all the way across the screen without leaving the pad suits me. Another side effect I found a little disconcerting at first was when someone in the forum would talk about 'this thread' being 6 pages and I was only coming up with 4. I got a decent price on a refurbished 21" and no regrets. DL
  5. Good job bledd. £120=ouch DL
  6. Drats. You must be doing well, you're getting fiesty. DL
  7. Being a madasahatter, you must mean you are an old Quicksilver Surfer? Welcome to MSFN. DL
  8. Not neccesarilly the correct order and not neccesarilly incorrect. Welcome to MSFN CPower. DL
  9. Even 1/10th that deserves . I have little to nothing in gmail but I'll check to make sure I've got anything I find critical save to HD. I've used gmail off and on for quite a while now and gotten lulled into complacency with it because it seemed so static or stable and I've basically disregarded the 'beta' status. DL
  10. @bledd- To be honest, I have a relative with something similar but it never has gotten bad enough to require surgery. According to their doctor, it is an inherited condition that is rare but found mostly amongst northern Europeans. He, my relative, found a corrolation between diet and the problem. Nothing exact but caffiene, MSG, stress and foods with unknown contents (chemicals, spices?) would trigger it. Prior to what just happened to you, did you ever have any intestinal problems, upset stomachs, eat a meal that just ran through you, etc.? I understand why, but wow, that is one long cut they made on you. Looks like it's healing well. Nice to see a slightly cluttered desktop. Makes me feel better about mine. Again, thanks for this post. Hopefully, if neccesary, someone will take it as a warning shot. DL
  11. Skipping the "wishing everyone health, happiness and prosperity" and going for the selfish. I would like a nice laptop or a 6-9 megapixel camera or both. At my age, Santa only visits those who are self indulgent and I have read his list and I've been a very bad boy. DL
  12. @bledd 1) Glad you are ok. Ok meaning that you are alive, back to decent health and supprisingly quick to have adjusted to the new situation. 2)Thank you for being so open and so generous. Maybe what you have shared will prompt someone else, who may need to get medical help, to go see a doctor. You don't want a biological hazard like going untreated. DL
  13. You actually mean something that writes virtually to a virtual CD or virtual DVD? Just trying to clarify the question. DL
  14. I can think of 4 aircraft that 'disappeared' on impact. Two at the World Trade Center, one in a land fill in Pennsylvania and another in the Okeefenokee swamp. Aircraft are made of thin metal, carefully engineered and not made for maintaining integrity on very poor landings. 530 mph can punch a lot of holes. The hole they showed and commented on how round it was, sure looked about the correct size for a large aircraft engine (these are actually built to take some abuse). The supposed employees at the hotel that caught some footage of the aircraft passing and watched it over and over, how come no quotes from them? Most other quotes were from people in suprised or shocked states (people make lousy withnesses). The FBI takes and hangs on to everything they possibly can and won't show you squat anyway, no matter what. All the terrorists wanted to learn how to fly an aircraft, not how to take off or land, so yeah, they would have made lousy pilots. Erratic flight paths, like fighter jets or lousy pilots. I have seen a 747 (their wings can flex 14' up or down) and the first commercial jet do barrel rolls. Have you ever stood there while a jet passes very close over your head and you not knowing it is coming and then tried to recall what it sounded like? I can't say that I have heard a missile go over my head in all honesty. People will say anything to get on the news. One smelled chordite. 5,300 gallons of fuel and how long did the building burn? I couldn't make out anything on the line up of the spooles of cable and the hole in the Pentagon. I did notice that one of the spooles was a bit bent, but then again, they are a bit stouter than an aircrafts fuselage with not having to fly and all. These are just comments. Not neccesarily accurate. DL
  15. This actually happened to me. It was pleasant. I went to a Christmas party with a friend. An unknown lady answered the door. She invited us in, pinched my butt and said "a free Christmas goose". LMFAO *runs away from DL* This only works if you have a high tollerance for pain. DL
  16. @Bi0haZarD Well, I'll have to take your word for it. 38 looks about right, maybe a few more. I went back and watched it a couple time more, hoping to see something extra like stars. Not much luck. Too poor a quality to make much out. On your side, there is a light on the left of the house that blinks quite regularly and there were two sets of lights (very faint) that were spaced apart and apeared a couple of seconds apart above the house (airplanes?). Then there is the small light above the star that was irregular. But I think that the light on the left side of the house clinches it. It would be extremely difficult to get all the lights flashing at the right time for the music and get the light on the left to blink regularly. Chips ftw. DL
  17. <gropes someone> I'm just not feeling myself today. DL
  18. That's fantastic. My brother showed me that on a few days ago. We argued over how it was done. He thought it was done in real time. I think it is some serious and very well thought out video editting. Either way, it's a winner. DL

    Crazy Patents

@bms Thank you. They don't look at the actual invention unless it claims to do something which seems impossible (perpetual motion machine is their example). I don't think I would want these guys bringing in an example anyway. The Patent Office does have some fairly lengthy requirements to be fullfilled in order to get a patent and that includes a drawing done with all relevant details and they are quite specific on how the drawing is to be presented. Why would someone patent a plastic stick? a) They get to say they have a patent on something. ( I would, but it looks like to much trouble for a plastic stick) b)or like a large corporation jumping on a lapsed copyright or patent to stake territory or like a cybersquatter that takes a domain name. Maybe he will get to sue someone if his patent gets infringed. Watch your kids and what they play with. You might lose your home. DL
  21. Hmm, never used a MAC. So MACs are 'that' way? Interesting. <tries to think of who uses a MAC> DL
  22. I listen to all sorts of music. To list what I don't like is easier. I don't like country and most opera. Country does not include western, western swing, bluegrass, folk and mountain. Generally, I like bluegrass (Allison Kraus and Union Station) and rock. Anything from George Formby to Marylin Manson and a few bits of rap. I haven't bought any CDs in a long while. A few of my preferred ( no order ): Marty Robbins Van Morrison No Doubt Stephane Grappelli The Chico Hamilton Quintet Nirvana (unplugged) The Clash The Smashing Pumpkins Cesaria Evora kd lang Squirrel Nut Zippers Pretenders DL
  23. @ninio1985- Very nice. Usually, I find red to be harsh but in your's, it's quite pleasant.
