  1. way to go, more spam, its easier to fool anyone with this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes the potential is there but I would think that they would see the damage something like that would do to their own reputation and unneccessarily burden their own systems. I do see your point though. There is potential for abuse. Taking that into account, it is suprising that they don't mention something that would address this. I can't imagine that this hasn't crossed their minds. Keeping in mind what you have said, it will be worth watching to see what happens. DL
  2. I had similar issues with my DVD writer. I used Ulead, CDBurnerXP and Nero. At different times one program or the other would create a bad DVD. Fortunately I was using a RW disk and when I used a different program it worked. The offending program wouldn't even recognize the disk. This would happen in formatting the disk also. If you try CDBurnerXP (free) on a DVD, keep in mind that it has a limit on how much it will burn to disk. You'll have to check to see how much it is and I don't know if they got that resolved. It was something like 4G out of the possible 4.7G. CDBurnerXP DL
  3. Hi FaceMouth, Welcome to MSFN. "still don't need to ask questions" That shows a good job of instructions and a good job of reading on your part. I'm sorry, but with a name like that, you are going to have to get an avatar. DL
  4. I would check a little further. I have used a couple and never had anything copied to the hard drive. I understand that there are some that might use a swap file. I will check. DL Edit> From Wiki: If you are worried about it writing to your hard drive, you can always unplug the hard drive.
  5. You can do it with windows also. BartPE DL
  6. Nothing is supposed to be copied to your hard drive. When you finish using it and turn off the computer, it's all gone. I guess it just loads what is needed at the moment, pulls what you want from the disk and I guess it must clear stuff off the RAM to make the space it needs as things change. I presume you can write to the HD if you wanted to. Only used them a couple of times to see them work. There are a number of people in here who would be very informative. DL
  7. Hi vando2k, Try posting your logfile here MSFN Forum: Malware Prevention. Tarun might be able to help you. DL
  8. The article says that 30% and 70% don't have a particular variation of those genes. Anybody with damage to those genes in general suffer retardation not that if they don't have those particual variations. They just noted that one of the genes cropped up at the same time as modern civilization got under way. People were still people prior to that but maybe that one of the variations was enough to change the way people thought and that changed the way they lived. Everybody else just picked up on it. This is just my take on it. Their other point was the rate at which our brains have evolved and that it is faster than they thought. I can understand the survival of the fittest and a beneficial gene putting you in an advantage to survive but the way the world is set up now, I don't think that rule will apply to humans. DL
  9. Hmmm, I really don't know anthropology. If I recall correctly, most of the early hominids had small brain cases. One of the articles says that homo sapiens evolved 200,000 years ago and that varients of two specific genes occurred 37,000 and 6,000 years ago. They said that these time periods also were also when sophisticated tool making (37,000 yeas ago) and the first known modern civilization , Mesopotamia (6,000 years ago), occured. It doesn't mean that humans were still chimps as this article shows- here Even modern people who suffer damage at this level are more often than not at a higher level than chimps. Microcephaly It's also interesting that (if memory serves) about 40,000 years ago there was a volcanic eruption that put the human population into a bottleneck. It gave the world a nuclear winter and the human population dropped to 40,000 people worldwide. We were on the endangered species list. Think about how thin the populations would have been if you took 40,000 people and spread them across the globe. Just interesting stuff. DL
  10. I tried it again and I put in - author, writer, book - and it gave back Book Writer Author Title Food Other editor keywords branches fix date state misc Subject music smell flavor holiday animal color hobby Publisher Most of those just confuse me as to how relevant they are. Well, you are member #72186 and excluding a few members who are AWOL, you have got a long list of people to get to know. Don't think anyone is going to have their feelings hurt if you limit it to 40 or 50. Welcome to MSFN Front242. DL
  16. Ah, I see you have found reason #3. Welcome to MSFN computerfreak. DL

    Hello

    Welcome to MSFN, Chunk. DL
  18. Ha!! Instead of it helping you to extend a list with more of the same or similar, it is a challenge for you to get it to cough up something at all. I tried a list of four things and it gave two of the things I gave it back ( fluke, planaria, platyhelminthes (yes, I had to look up the spelling) and flatworm. It gave back fluke and flatworm ( yeah, I already had those)) and on another try it added auto and machine on the list I gave it: car and automobile. At the moment it looks like it is definately in it's infancy and doesn't have much of a data bank to draw on. Their examples show common, mundane and lists with similar words, such as 'blank' University ( their example ). Their example gives you a nice long list of ~30 results. Put in Georgia Tech ( I wonder if it ignored this one because it had Georgia University of Technology in it's own list), Mississipi State and North Carolina University and it comes back with a list of about ten schools. DL Ok, check this out. I post this message and I catch, out of the corner of my eye, the the Google ads at the bottom of the page. "Intesitnal Fluke", "Liver Fluke", "Tape Worms" and "Human Parasite Worms". Garggghhhhhhhh.

This doesn't reflect on whether or not you are sane. Jury is still out. j/k Putting j/k at the end of a ribbing just takes the darned fun out of it. not j/k DL
  20. Pirated is stolen. ( bad ) Plagiarize is stealing something and saying you made it or wrote it. ( bad x 2 ) I have had pirated materials and then got rid of them. I wanted to see what they were. I don't think you should have to buy a pig in a poke. ( purchase something, sight unseen) DL

  23. @Helios666- Welcome to MSFN!! I didn't see your post in 'Introduce Yourself' forum yet. Ahh, don't be embarrased. It take practice. Lots and lots of practice. DL
  24. Yes they are but watching the results and responses here in the forum is highly amusing. DL
  25. I don't think it's random or "stuff". Only looked at two. 1st is a good spoof on Basic Instinct with a role reversal ( with Sharon Stone in the commercial), 2nd is dumb, 3rd I think I've seen before and it's ok, 4th no clue. But the 1st is worth a watch. DL
