RegUtils.7z\RegUtils\RegiStrip\Regstrip.exe is UPXed to 171008 bytes. once unUPXed it is 477696 bytes rgst0052.lzh\Regstrip.exe is 478208 bytes RegUtils.7z\RegUtils\RegCon\Regcon.exe is UPXed to 127488 bytes AND there is also an external UNLHA32.DLL once unUPXed it is 378880 bytes rgcon311.lzh\Regcon.exe is 379392 bytes It wouldn't be the first time than UPXed executable shows memory issues, it is very possible that it's just a matter of unUPXing the "English" executables. jaclaz

I can see two possible different kind of issues: the glitch about the formatting maybe "localized" to a single (marginal) issue and you can workaround it using (say) a PE to pre-partition/format the hard disk the error message is (strange as it might seem ) accurate and actually *somehow*, either through nlite or because "wrong" (no offence intended ) settings/changes to the source (or even possibly something not entirely "kosher" in the source)The risk is that if the real condition is #2, sooner or later during the install another issue will happen. If I were you I would try re-attempting it from scratch, using WinsetupFromUSB or another tool and (for the sake of the test) either integrating ONLY the AHCI/SATA driver (and adding to it or removing NOTHING else), You could even try to not integrate anything and use a F6 floppy image for the AHCI/SATA driver and either Firadisk or WinVblock, like here: http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/install-xp-from-an-iso jaclaz P.S.: Oops, sorry, had not refreshed the browser, happy it is already solved

Yes and no. Any Virtual Machine (specific, detailed make/version) will be built with some "Virtual Hardware" coded inside it. As an example, VmWare virtual machines generally default to a "virtual" LSI SCSI subsystem (but there is a specific option to use a - still simulated - "normal" IDE bus (and virtual devices). Such VMs usually provide (for the supported operating systems) the specific drivers needed. It seems to me like you have two separate steps before you. The first one is to *somehow* make your "upgrade disk a "full install disk". The second is to add to it (if needed) the AHCI/SATA drivers that the "real" machine(s) you want to install it to might need. Whether objective #1 is "legal" is highly debatable, however what you can do is start from the actual files on your original CD/DVD. May I add, in passing by, how in the US a judge is usually elected by the people, and being the career of a judge very interesting (culturally and socially) and quite rewarding (financially) it is not-so-common the case that someone who managed to be elected as judge chooses to become ex-judge (unless the people decided to elect someone else). On the other hand, while in charge a judge is to all effects a representative of the people, while once he/she is an ex-judge, he/she is only an ex-judge. His/her opinion on any legal matter may well be authoritative, legally sound, accurate and what not, still it is and remains an opinion, without the dignity that a decision of a "real" judge has in court. Additionally, an "ex-judge" may well be an absolutely unbiased, honest person (and I believe the large majority of judges and ex-judges are like that), but he/she could well be if not outright a crook, somewhat sensible to bribing or simply strongly biased. Well what happens if you deploy cmdkey to the target machine and run it remotely from the machine itself? Still, it seems to me foolish to wait for the issue to happen and repair the problem as opposed to preventing the issue to happen at all. I have no idea about (and I am actually not at all interested in the details of) the management procedures that you have on that site/whatever, but I have rarely seen someone proposing a no or little cost enhancement capable of preventing the creation of a "support ticket" having it denied/not approved. You see, usually nooone actually cares about what the IT/support people do , but if a "support ticket" is created, it means that there is an alteration in the workflow of the people that actually work to produce something (or that are supposed to do that), i.e. it means "saved money" or "less downtime" for the company. In any case, you asked about your problem, not one but three possible solutions were proposed for you to test, sorry if none can be - for whatever reason - be tested/used in your environment. jaclaz

I am not sure to understand WHICH Virtual Machine you are talking about? If the XP install misses a Mass Storage driver, at one or the other stage it will BSOD with STOP ERROR 0x0000007b. Can you try describing what exactly you did? IMHO, besides that, what sounds to me alarming is not that Abbey Shuto and McGee have access to that data but this line: 1,300 agencies! Having 1,300 "agencies" (including local police) capable of accessing that kind of data is IMHO very little short of publishing it. jaclaz

Personally I use mostly NTFS filesystems on my machines/devices, when/where I see a good use for them, but do avoid spitting on older FAT filesystems and actually use them when there are reasons that justify their use. I mean BOTH filesystems are not (and cannot be) a one-size-fits-all solution for *any* problem. If you could provide some suggestion for other MFT based filesystems, as I already asked you, I am willing to experiment with them. From a purely theoretical standpoint, I would like to have an alternative "simpler" filesystem (for storage only) with only some of the "good" (imho) features of NTFS, such as having the $MFT (and hence the possibility of really fast file searching) and larger than 4 Gb filesize without the (still IMHO) unneeded overhead, like permissions, quotas, "ownership". jaclaz
