WHAT exactly is that screenshot? I.e. HOW exactly did you produce it? What do you mean by "did a search on win7 partition and got this bazarr result of redudnent entries"? What do you mean by "error report"? I mean, are those directories that were actually created on that partition/volume? jaclaz

Yep , but the whole issue with the incredible Hulk is that it is not credible, this is better : jaclaz

Good, then this is allowed (mechanics repairing a Zeppelin IN FLIGHT http://urbanfragment.wordpress.com/tag/alfred-eisenstaedt/ and no, Zeppelins were NOT green: http://www.greatwaraviation.com/forum/index.php?topic=958.0 green is re-known as a difficult colour : jaclaz

OT , but why someone would have a cucumber (or a greenish Zeppelin) in his signature totally escapes me. jaclaz

Well, just for the record in my day we copied the source the to the internal hard disk, you know, like: http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win98/laptopinstall98stepbystep1/indexfullpage.htm (as a matter of fact we did FORMAT /S and rebooted to the internal disk, and using SMARTDRV does make a difference) ...and we LIKED it! http://tinyapps.org/blog/misc/200702250700_why_in_my_day.html BTW, this has traditionally worked also for NT, 2K and XP (as long as NTFS wasn't involved/needed, or a later CONVERT was an option): http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=16713 ...kids today. jaclaz

How big is windows 7 before installation
jaclaz replied to koden's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
No problem whatever , it is only some perfectly innocent fun, sometimes things get written in a way that they can be read differently from their intended meaning. jaclaz -
@11ryanc Look, don't want to seem grumpier than I normally am , but - provided that like 99% of people - you run NT systems on NTFS filesystems there is NO match between *any* indexing/traditional searching utility and a $MFT searching one, simply NO match. How big is windows 7 before installation

Yep , I found funny that the OP had already "found" RT7 Lite AND asked: it sounded to me a lot like : I'm about to hit this new nail right on the head with my brand new hammer. I remember that in the old times nails used to enter materials when hit on the head by hammers. Does this still happen? jaclaz -

How do I recover files off NT formatted drive?
jaclaz replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Additionally, and NO matter if "clean" (or brownish/blackish, as often it's orangish), are the capacitor tops "flat" or "bulging"? Do any of these have "leakings" at the bottom? See here for some reference images: http://www.markdigital.com/2011/02/14/bad-capacitors-lcd-monitor-repaired/ http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=195 http://www.geeksinphoenix.com/blog/?tag=/hardware http://www.capacitorlab.com/visible-failures/ jaclaz -
Well, HP must be confused as they stated in writing how a USB CD/DVD drive is to be used: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01613138&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4172574#N97 Now, maybe it would help into making some progresses if you could forget anything HP "told" you and you could just try describing what actual "recovery disc(s)" you have in your hands. A good start would be: put the disc(s) in another working PC say that the drive letter assigned to the CD/DVD driver is E:\ (or change accordingly) open a command prompt and in it type DIR /S E:\>C:\mydvd1.dir (and press [ENTER]) repeat (if more than one disc with DIR /S E:\>C:\mydvd2.dir then compress the file(s) C:\mydvdn.dir into a .zip archive and either attach it to your next post or upload to *any* free file hosting site and post a link to itThis way we could have a preliminary idea of what is actually on that (those) disc(s). jaclaz

[emphasis added] Few can match their skill at this! --JorgeA Well, to re-connect with Unity, Canonical would not be that bad at it either, judging from the known indiegogo hiccup with Ubuntu Edge: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge jaclaz

How big is windows 7 before installation
jaclaz replied to koden's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
No , there has been a paradigm shift with Vista and later. Slimming/liting install discs now INCREASES source size by ADDING some bloat to the source. Come on , that's EXACTLY the idea behind RT7 Lite (and other similar programs), just like nlite did for XP, these may be of interest to you: http://www.overclock.net/t/805872/guide-using-rt-seven-lite-windows-7-stripping-tool http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/157337-rt-7-lite-components-removal-explanation/ As you might well be aware, the RT7 Lite site is down, so maiking use of the Wayback Machine might be needed: https://web.archive.org/web/20130624051520/http://www.rt7lite.com/ jaclaz -
How do I recover files off NT formatted drive?
jaclaz replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Sure. And both we (dencorso and myself) even have an external USB (non)case that we even don't have to crank open to change the disk inside it (that's what dencorso was talking about), something *like*: which has additionally the not-so trifling added feature that it is compatible with both 2.5" and 3.5" Pata disk drives and with Sata ones. jaclaz -

{REQ}Install .NETFramework 2
jaclaz replied to MgmTest's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
Well, if I may , the FIRST rule of the Batch club is "You do not use bat to exe converters", the SECOND rule being "You DO NOT use batch to exe converters" . Seriously, save the thing with extension .cmd and test it AS IS, then, and only IF it works as "plain" .cmd, you may try to convert it to a .exe, knowing that there are two kinds of batch to executable converters: the type that is nothing but a SFX (self executing archive) that will expand the batch *somewhere*, typically in %TEMP% folder and run it from this location the type that is an actual sort of compiler but that with a rate that I would estimate between 70 and 95% completely FAILS to compile a working program unless it is very - and I mean VERY - basicFor the first you need to make sure that relative paths and similar resolve correctly, for the second kind usually there is nothing that you can do, a given batch either works or it does not. jaclaz -
Well, it seems to me obvious that once taken aside the fanboys (which may even - though I personally doubt so - knowledgeable and aware of the existence of this beta of Firefox, but refuse it for ideological reasons) what remains are victims Whether they are "home users" that had Windows 8 forced upon them when buying their new PC (and the category historically comprehends very little numbers of knowledgeable people), or they are "business users" that had Windows 8 forced upon them in the office by some senseless corporate decision (and the category - even if possibly the knowledge level s higher than "home users" - historically has very little power when it comes to installing new apps, let alone beta's) matters very little, the final effect is that noone is likely to use a non-MS browser on NCI (and *any* people that would beta test such software wouldn't choose to run the NCI anyaway). I find the results of this experiment by the good Mozilla guys both plausible and not surprising. But, the real sign that humanity is doomed is the success that Unity has seemingly on the Linux/Ubuntu side . Surely the typical Linux user (no offence intended) often has some sort of political/phylosophical/ethical agenda (though nothing compared with the MS shills), still, on average, he/she should have more common sense than praising that horror. If you ever used Ubuntu, maybe you can contribute to steering it in the right direction (the one it lost with the Unity nonsense): http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/03/ubuntu-2014-community-survey-goes-live Though the question whether the provided default background image is of your liking and whether it is "professional" work remains a sign that they are still living on another planet. BTW, and to be fair, the consensus is not unanimous, so, there is still hope : http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/reviews/ubuntu-12-04-review-precisely-what-we-feared I like the comparison with the C5 (notwithstanding my firm belief that Sir Clive Sinclair was a genius): jaclaz

Are you joking? NO activity at all. What epic clearly reported is that (for whatever reasons) this machine entered an endless (Wupdate induced) loop that forced him to restore a previous image, which is exactly what is reported in the two threads I posted a link to. It is IMHO very possible that this happens on a limited number of installs/machines, as it has happened in the past, with people mad at a given update/fix/KB and other ones very happy bout that same thing. jaclaz

Kinda neat theoretical artificial intelligence in action here. Shades of skynet. As is mentioned in the article, it is actually a worm, not a malware at all, it does not enter the network and collects Wi-Fi passwords that it cracks. This one is definitely worth watching. No . That is just FUD/fluff. See: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171151-first-contagious-wifi-computer-virus-goes-airborne/ I will cite (from the original article) http://link.springer.com/article/10.1186%2F1687-417X-2013-2 : [1] please read as "theoretically" instead [2] please assume that here the missing addjective "simulated" is actually present jaclaz

Clean install solutions needed
jaclaz replied to lurk&jerk's topic in Unattended Windows 8/Server 2012
Your reference to "Local Group Policy Editor" seems like unrelated. Legacy boot should be a setting in \boot\BCD, the reference is here, look for "bootmenupolicy [ Legacy | Standard ]": http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/ff542202.aspx Since the BCD is a Registry hive, it should be possible by comparing a "Standard" BCD against the same BCD once set to "Legacy" to implement the change via "registry file", though it has to be seen when it needs to be applied. jaclaz -
No, not necessarily. Let's start again. Is your touchpad working right now? Does it appear in device manager as "Mouse"? Or as something else? Checking it's properties, WHICH dirver is it using? Or it is missing in device manager listing? You see, my ESP capabilities are at the lowest level, and my crystal ball is in the shop (again ) for tuning, thus I have no way to understand what hapens on your PC unless you DETAIL and DESCRIBE it. I use a common convention where I use a question mark (the little "hook" sign) to distinguish questions from statements, I would expect an EXACT answer to each of the question I ask, remember that I am asking these questions in order to try and help you. Read: http://homepage.ntlworld.com./jonathan.deboynepollard/FGA/problem-report-standard-litany.html and please comply with it. jaclaz
