  1. Hi , Is the server setup as a domain controller? CB
  2. I would check any security software closing down external connections. Would also check the nic drivers, cables, hub/switches etc. CB
  3. Help assistant account?? Not sure of this account, if you are using remote assistance which remains as slow as a week in jail then there are several ways to do this. 1. If the user on your network requires assistance from a remote expert then the user can request help and as long as your network firewall has port 3389 open the expert should be able to accept the invitation to help with nothing further required. 2. The expert can can initiate the help session himself without an invitation as long as the default group policy on the domian controller has his account in "allow remote assistance" under administrative templates. Remember that you must enable remote assistance on win 2003 by going to system properties > remote tab. A much wiser and faster type of remote connection would be remote desktop! Which is also enabled on the remote tab. However with remote desktop you must add the remote expert account to the "remote desktop users" group. Administrators have this logon right by default. Good luck CB

Hi there, If you are using AOL or have any AOL software installed you should remove it! Remember that aol do not make it easy to uninstall thier software and by normal uninstall methods it shall leave traces. If you have no aol on your pc, you have spyware causing your problem. download spybot (latest version) run it. reboot pc and all should be ok i reckon good luck SPYBOT CB
  8. You could create an iso of the video and mount that on a virtual drive which you have access to across the network On the other pc just map the path to that drive or folder. Good luck CB
  9. Yes Cancer 10, please give us more info if you know this to be true CB
  10. If you find a way to remove all the accounts except one admin please let me know as its my understanding that you cannot delete the default admin account and atleast one other account must be created during install which will also have admin rights. Cheers CB
  11. Glad to see you got rid of it, however the guest account is disabled by default and even if it was activated by a user they would have very little permissions on the local system. Therefore to remove the guest account is a sign you are taking security very seriously. If your taking it this seriously and your users are capable of opening up a needless account then you really should have either domain or local group policy protecting the more sensitive parts of the o/s However like i said, glad you got what your looking for CB
  12. Hi, I am not sure what your asking either, however if its multiple desktops you require on one windows machine this is your answer. power toys Good luck CB
  13. many thanks Phantasia, apparently the patch is included in sp2 happy computing CB
  14. Hi Verity, The different user profiles are causing the divide in outlook 2003, if you were to make one identity in outlook 2003 you would be able to log into that identity and regardless of profile i think you would be able to see all the emails. The overwrite on the inbox seems to be a fault in outlook rather than a wrong feature, i would try downloading the office 2k3 updates and see if that resolves it. I have had much the same problem when i choose to reply to an email that contains a certain type of intense graphics. The reply email where i type my response repeats all the graphics so that its impossible to read from it. As for Thunderbird, well im going to look into it because plenty people seem to be using it and while it will be a more secure option i cant quite see it being as all round good as outlook 2k3 which other than the above flaw, really rocks. I use email saver xe to back up all my outlook mails, safe list, folders, and account settings.........I would be very interested in thunderbird if it has a backup facility like this or another application that can do this for thunderbird. If anybody knows about this i would appreciate some advice. Cheers CB
  15. Yeh Bonkers, nice idea, would go to know if the patch worked in this case. If you give it a go please let us know CB
  16. Hey Phantsia, here ya go buddy! I had the same problem myself and this ms patch cured the problem exactly. MS did not include this patch in sp1 as the problem did not seem common enough and it is recommended that you apply this patch only if you have the exact problem you are having. Go to this link and click on the download link to download the patch. the windows shell shall never fail me again! Let me know when your working again. Good luck CB
  17. Then you should contact your isp to make sure there are no line problems or any problems with your supplied hardware. Good luck
  18. I would say that spyware or virus could do this but im not convinced it is in this case, It just seems like a corrupt registry string or general operating system problem. I would suggest that you run a repair on the o/s, boot from the disk or floppy and run the repair option. If you decide to check for spyware you might also post a hijackthis log here for people to check. I found this online discussion which does not offer a fix other than running the repair function. link good luck CB
  19. Hi there, In the past i have had trouble with a delay from the login screen to the desktop. Eventually i found a reg tweak that allowed me to startup windows in verbose mode which in turn displays the processes that start as we make our way to the desktop. This allowed me to see which process was causing the delay. This should also help you but any time i have seen this before it has turned out to be spyware causing the problem. I do not have the reg tweak at hand but i think i have it at home and i shall check for it later. cheers CB
  20. Thanks, Its not a friver issue as we have tried 2 disks with different drivers giving the same error. It is a modem and not a router so it will need drivers. The computer shall not recognise it otherwise. the problem is with the operating system, possibly some corrupt registry entries or a problem with install shield or windows installer. Thanks for the input though CB
  21. Hi guys/dolls hope you can help, i have a broadband modem which will not install onto an xp home machine. in the past i have managed to install other software. When i run the setup.exe file for the modem software i get the following error "install support file could not be installed, the parameter is not correct" I have tried 2 different cd's for the modem which is correctly not connected to the pc as the software should be installed first. I get the error with both cd's. I have looked up the error and found that the problem may be caused by a corrupt registry key Link 1 That link also advises me that the problem may be with the ikernel.exe file and to download and follow the instructions as found here Link 2 Neither have solved my problem please could i have some suggestions many thanks CB
  22. Well said, upgrades just dont play fair. format and install. CB
  23. WHAT IS IN YOUR START UP MENU?? RUN HIJACKTHIS AND POST A LOG HERE
  24. I Do not think your problem has to do with virtual pc however i do think you should dump it as its half the toy that vmware is! are you booting from cd? i think this might solve your problem....setup is looking for setup files. 1. delete the iso image you created as thats no good 2. create the 6 floppy boot disks for xp 3. copy all the files on each floppy boot disk and paste them to the i386 folder of your on your hard disk (replacing all the files). 4. Once this is complete create a new iso image from this and try again. good luck CB
