  1. That's a huge diference, even if it was in oF it would still be 45oC. What case are you using now?
  2. I don't see people stop posting on the forum, do you? So what would you call dead? No new releases? So, if something stops devolving it dies (yes, businesses do indeed)?
  3. Always better to apply it again, just put a thin layer between heatsink and CPU, never apply it really thick, it's just to fill up the spaces that don't make contact when you put metal on metal. I don't remember if your cooler has some plastic green clips, if so I think you can't use your cooler as it is now, but let's see if it works. you can use the computer still if you put it flat like a desktop if you need it.
  4. With something like this, but some aftermarket coolers have them included.
  5. Low profile bracket for that video card. Well, yes, but the pictures show a 64bit memory PCB and teh 8600GT is 128bit, so, no go.But then, I see this, , a few layers of PCB extra? --- The best I can find in the shops is an ATI HD4650 for around 65-80USD.
  6. I`ve seen that many times before, but less with Dell. The clips need to push the heatsink down with force and with the stock Intel cooler the motherboard even bends.I would look for an aftermarket cooler, clip the green part to the back-ventilator off and connect the cooler with a 3 pin to Molex connector to the PSU as I don't recall that Dell uses any standard 3 pin headers for ventilators on the motherboard. Most heatsinks come with a new pad and thermal-paste, just clean the top of the CPU with thinner and then with alcohol to clean the grease/oil of the thinner off.
  7. If it contains pictures that would be great, it seems that Gradius2 (Isn't that a Konami game like Nemesis (MSX)? B) ) has left the forums and killed some pictures with it."Gratis" is used in a lot of languages by the way...
  8. It's the Aspire M5100 Desktop .
  9. ATI Control Centre can do that automatically for you, just check the CCC and enable overclocking. For the case, if you ask me you would do better by buying another case from Antec for example. A case is personal I must say although cooling is the most important part as you already have noticed. If possible, pick a case that can hold a few 12cm fans.
  10. Make a new topic as it's off-topic indeed, we'll continue there .
  11. No, no, hold on, the card comes with 2 Molex to PCI-E connector, so that would not be a problem .
  12. Naa, that can't be! Better working yes but faster I can't believe. I personally would still use a 8600GTS over a onboard HD3450 like GPU (HD3200 onboard but with shared memory so that makes in general the biggest difference).
  13. Well, or better, 2 (two) 12V lines, let me give you an example: Seasonic is known for good PSUs, they make PSUs for other good brands too, so it' not just a brand. The Seasonic SS-350ET 350W looks small with just 350W on the sticker but when you look better you will see that it has 2 12V lines with each 17A. That's a lot of power and other brands will sell it as a 500W PSU, some crap brands even have the balls to sell a 500W PSU with only one 12V line at 17A. If you get that Seasonic you will also have a high efficiency "80+ Certified" PSU that spills less energy and will stay a lot cooler than most non 80+ PSUs. By the way, if you get a HD4830, look for one with a good cooler, the stock coolers are a tat loud. The Sapphire is one of the best picks.
  14. Your PSU is 250 watts, so that would need some replacement, you will need some 18A on your 12v line and you have now like 12A or so. It's just a stock size PSU so you can replace it without any problems. I would leave the 9600GT where it is and go with a ATI HD4830 from Sapphire.
  15. If it shows up before windows starts than you have 2 drives that are not working together or like others say, one could be damaged. Try other cables too to check if that could be the problem. It's for a hardware problem. * pack=collection of drivers in this case
  16. The link you posted isn't going anywhere else than the ACER website. What model is it? It's certain that you need to replace the Power Supply unit as well.
  17. Pictures, else it doesn't count .
  18. You could try to boot up with a Linux live CD/DVD to see if your sound works. I´m for 99% is a problem of your OS. Also download the latest drivers to be sure it's not a driver issue. Moving this topic to the XP section.
  19. Download a new fresh pack of drivers from the nVidia site and install them. Does this error show up before XP is starting?
  20. There are better but it's the best solid ALU (core CU) that ever has been made for the retail market as far as I know. I prefer coolers that blow over the motherboard to cool the voltage regulators and north bridge too... Living in Mexico doesn´t help when you like to buy the best products .Till Monday, then we continue the "fight".
  21. The "GeForce GTX 285 FTW w/ EVGA Backplate" card has a higher voltage for the GPU and RAM so they sell you an already OCed and overvolted products. ASUS will release a HD4890 soon with a non stock cooler and I'm not surprised that it will beat even the GTX285 10%+ OC. The stock GTX285 is on par with a 5% OCed HD4890 any way. Note that the HD4890 has a street price of 250USD and the GTX285 340USD witch in my eyes is still a huge price difference as for 90USD you can get a REAL quiet cooler like the Accelero twin turbo for less than 40USD. Still 50 bucks in your pocket .
  22. Yes, without a problem
  23. [Most 8400GS board come with a small 40mm fan with almost no body of ALU. If you OC a nVidia card all I can say that you need to be careful if you OC the shaders separately; out of sync walking core and shader will give you a lot of problems and thus also the blue screens. If you try a card of the 2600/36x0/46x0/47x0/48x0/49x0 series you will see that all works way smoother on Vista and Win7, I still have to see a nVidia card that perform better, so not only FPS, than a ATI card . Also you need to compare the cards that are sold at this moment, so you need to compare a 49xx series card with the latest nVidia cards. Sure nvidia cards perform better at stock speed as they already go over their standard specs, thus they are really less stable. I must say that I sold a lot of 9600GT cards as they were the best pick back when they were released, but after that card I´ve found not much good from nVidia (stopped selling them also for the time being). It's also not for nothing that nVidia needed to rename their cards to make the crowd by the "latest" nVidia card while it was just a renamed version. note that I don´t have anything against nVidia cards besides their sloppy marketing, bad drivers and over the specs releases. By the way, Zxian from our MSFN team hated the ATI CCC too for a long time but he can´t stop to talk about the ATI card and it's drivers now . I can't say much about the author of tweak guides, and it could be that he tries to speak in simple English to explain it to the crowd while the more knowledgeable ones place question marks about his writing, but he still needs to work on his knowledge (So do I, I don't know much about other OSes then the ones from Microsoft). By the way, what happened to the OP?
  24. Yes again, checked his code package a few days ago and there was nothing wrong with it, but that "team" from Poland just needs to take their crap somewhere else...
