You can OC this CPU easily, just start to set the FSB on 350 or so, go up 10MHz each time, if the computer crashes, then set the voltage of the CPU higher or bring down the FSB, with stock cooler you will get 2200GHz easily out of this CPU . Looks don’t say all, but I would go for a good case, a mid-tower that is made out of 0.8mm SECC steel. Also take a case with a good power supply or buy a separate power supply (like more people say) and just the case without it, but that will properly not fit in your budget. What ever you do, don’t o only for looks, crappy 0.6mm steel is not that you want, also plastic that is used for the frond is sometimes cheap, thin and ugly. But you will have a good housing and a good power supply that will have enough power to run a 6800Ultra but not a 7800GT(X). If you want to buy a 7800GT(X) later, you will have to buy a power supply of 550Watts but that doesn’t fit in your budget now. Just think about it like this, the width is like a 17", hight like a 15" (a bit bigger, just 32 pix ). I sold this kind of laptops a lot last month. Cool thing; these labtops come with fast ATI cards too (brand: HP).

Use a credit-card or some thing else to spread the thermo-paste, it could make some difference .

Also, think about SSE3 witch comes with a new cored AMD 64 (Venice and up). Soon there will be Semprons with it (or they are already out? ). PCI-E isn´t faster then AGP, it seems to be a bit slower in Benchmarks... But replacing a 2800+ with a 3200+, I would wait a few months more...

Yes, that’s the Contrast Ratio, but I’m talking about the contrast setting of the screen in combination with image on the screen. Any way, I would not think to much about it, Viewsonic seems to have the best TFT-TVs in the 25-32" range. TFT monitors are also good but I prefer Samsung for the price. All my screens are from them, working now for almost night and day. None of them had a defect for now and I’m talking about 1 year and 6 months. Just one has a half dead pixel.

Looks like Contrast settings to me: 10:1 is 10%, 1:5 (normal) is like 50%, but the problem is that you can’t talk about % because it’s not linear. Not sure about what I said, but I tried .

Go for the Zalman cooler IF you have the space for it on your mobo and your case is big enough. The 92mm fan wil not be the problem to fit (even you can replace it with a 12cm fan. ) The 1333 and 1400 MHz K7 CPUs are one of the hottest CPUs AMD ever made so it will not be the quietest PC .

Replace it with any drive you want. If your computer is not "seeing" the drive at the full capacity, then use the drive manufacturer software to make the computer "see" the drive well. Most of the time you can download installation instructions too. If you buy a "boxed" or "retailed" drive, you will have a new cable (not all brands), the software, instructions manual, 5.25" brackets (not all brands) and of course the drive it self in one box . Take a ATA100/133 7200rpm 2 to 8MB cache drive, you will be suprised how much faster your computer will be. I prefer Seagate now, they are fast, queit and reliable...

Try a new cable, if your cable is half dead like your old drive I would replace it. The VIA drivers for example switch from UDMA to PIO mode if your cable is bad...

I would go for the .8, it’s a bit faster with throughput then the .7 so it’s not only av. seek time . I used for years Maxtor, but they are not as good as WD or Seagate. Samsung started to make nice ones too, with IBM/Fujitsu I don’t have so much experience.. .

Good drive, I like to use them here too in my cybercafé. They are quiet, fast and reliable. I use WD too, but they are slower, noisier and produce more heat. price, I can´t tell, I don´t know the prices over there but it must be some thing like 80 Euros or 100 US$?

Yep, they do, but see full duplex (In and Out at the same time) as 20Mbps .

The answer you already gave, it’s the speed limit. 10Mbps just use 4 pins and not 8 pins and so you can imagine that those 8 pins (read wires) make a lot more inference at a 10 times faster speed .

As far as I know you can. Only problems I heart of are some 5 year old Compaqs (Integrates video card (SIS or so) and Windows 98) that will not accept the TFTs, but still I think that´s not true. (Nice site, but still you need to do some work on 3D )

Other thing, how are the cables connected? Try to use 2 IDE cables and some times it’s better to put the drives on CS (Cable select).

LOL, Then Everest has a bug . beleve me, it´s a 5400rpm, but suit your self, search with google and you will see that there are no 4200rpm 3.5" 40GB drives .

4200rpm 40GB HDD? That’s a 2.5" drive? It’s the high I/O traffic, that’s the problem. And like boooggy says, your hard drive isn’t giving enough information to the DVD burner. I would burn the DVDs on 2.4 speed or buy a new HDD. Other then that, your situation is normal .

I see a performance boost with dual core only with programs like Newtek Lightwave and 3D Studio MAX. For games I didn’t see a lot of frames more then on a single cored computer. (I use Lightwave and I’m happy with dual CPUs, waiting for the AMD 64 dual core to come up and becoming affordable )
