  1. So I've been running JKDefrag for several days now and I decided to install Diskeeper and run an analysis. Diskeeper reported my drives as not suffering from fragmentation and my second HDD (which is used for storage only) had absolutely no dragmentation at all. My C drive had 24 fragments and 44 excess fragments. The 132KB JKDefrag application does the job perfectly without the extra bells and whistles.
  2. Did you try Dial-A-Fix? Your router is dependent on IE7? That's really sad...

  4. I'm the tech for the family and all in all that's... 5 PCs. lol I got 2 old ones for fixing a new one by my mother-in-law.
  5. Well, I suppose we're spending some time apart. I'm tired of using software that needs to be paid for. It's nice to find a free/open-source alternative to the commercial big boys. I'm more for giving the small ones a chance for comparison purposes nowadays.
  6. Yes, the CPU and North Bridge are both passively cooled at the moment. Only my GPU has a NV Silencer on it, which I can hear.
  7. Do you have any records in the Event Log Viewer relating to the problem? It could be RAM, video card, bad/corrupt drivers. Your card could be overheating, but you'd notice artifacts or reduced frame rate if that was the case. What are your temperatures? Test your RAM with Memtest to rule it out and reinstall / update your chipset and video drivers.
  8. Well, that's untrue. That might be true if you're going to make an image of your drive contents as they are right now and uncompressed, but not the way you should do it. DVD Burners are dirt cheap nowadays. I prefer to get my image file down in size as much as possible. What I do is use a slightly nLited XP (just old crap and unneeded Drivers, Keyboad Layouts, Languages removed, nothing else as to leave all functionality in tact. Then I choose good software for each purpose I'll be using my PC for (which I've already done) and make sure all temp/cache has been cleaned. Image away. Some prefer Norton Ghost, some prefer Acronis True Image. I love the latter. My C drive is 4 GBs. My image file is under 1 GB and takes 5 minutes to restore my system incase of corruption (which rarely happens).
  9. I'm bringing my topic from SPCR over here for anyone to comment, suggest or provide positive criticism. The original topic is located here: Linky My stock heatsink cowards in the shadow of the mighty Ninja! Top view: The Scythe Ninja installed (which was very easy on my S939). The High-Riser installed (which was part of the hitch I mentioned). This is Mr. Hitch... due to the Scythe's size, both aluminum heatsinks make contact. Zxian suggested that since it uses heatpipes I could bend it a little to compensate for that. There's no way I could fit a 4cm fan on it since my North Bridge idles at 46C. As a side-effect I was unable to properly seat the High-Riser, but I might be able to adjust this once I bend the aluminum. Once my system is back up and running, you can see more of how squeezed in it is and how crooked (unevenly) the seating is. Slightly closer and a different angle. With both heatsinks running fanless, my temperatures are as follows: Idle/Load CPU - 38/47 GPU - 45/64 North Bridge - 45/49 I ran a GPU benchmark for 5 hours to get full load. As always comments, suggestions, and positive criticism is welcome from all. Cheers all, Jeremy
  10. There are 8, 16, 32 and even some 64GB flash drives out nowadays, although insanely expensive. 4 GB is the most reasonable at this time.
  11. Your 3 essentials are: 1. A legitimate copy of your operating system on CD or DVD. 2. A backup of all your device drivers (latest versions of them). 3. A backup of your personal files. If you have any software you like, make sure you have the latest version of it and store it on CD/DVD/flash/external. As for how large of a flash drive, 2 and 4GB sticks are very cheap nowadays. Only you can make the decision there.
  12. I hope someday Valve will redo HL2DM. But I'll be waiting 10 years for that... They delayed HL2E2 from last fall to 2007 Spring, then Summer and now Winter 2007. bastards.
  13. With two 12cm fans on the top? I think not.
  14. I uninstalled Diskeeper, switched to this with the intention of trying it for one week or until I notice any performance degrade as a result of it not doing what it's supposed to do properly, then analyze my drives with Diskeeper and PerfectDisk at that point and see how it compares. Hey, I'm all for smaller software.
  15. Well, the reason why it is slowing down more and more is because you're not doing maintenance on it. Computers don't take care of themselves. If you read my blog post you will become familiar with how to maintain order. Would you mind taking screenshots of the programs listed under Add/Remove Programs for us? It likely came with pre-installed bloat/trial/crippleware on it. You probably haven't cleaned the cache, defragmented or checked the start-up entries. First thing's first, screenshots. Please provide.
  16. Take the Event ID numbers to www.eventid.net for further information to aid with troubleshooting.
  17. Yes.
  18. Why do 3 people ask the same question?
  19. What does that have to do with using a good e-mail provider?
  20. Good selections. Hardware (mobos and video cards in particular) aren't my strongsuit but many others will provide valuable feedback. That's my two cents.
  21. I see you haven't tried NOD32, Avast or AntiVir...
  22. Is the PC a brand name or custom build? Please read my blog post here. Don't view it in IE, it looks bad. Use either Firefox or Opera.
  23. He hasn't stated that he's working at a company where the PCs are all set up for users under limited credentials. You're assuming without knowing for sure. Armagan, is this a PC at your work or home?
  24. I've used the SiS RAID Drivers before and it's very easy to get them properly integrated into your install CD. You can accomplish this flawlessly with nLite. You load up your source, select the Drivers section, add your SiS RAID drivers, and make sure the txtsetup.oem file is in the same folder, this will allow you to select your OS and then nLite integrates them. You reformat after backing up your files, install Windows, ignore the F6 option and your on your way.
