Thanks for that! Great to know.

Just do a repair install.

Run this tool, then download and install Avast Home Free Edition v4.7, update it and see what it has to say.

Hey guys, all is well. I put rubber things between my case and the rear fan and picked up a new Vantec Iceberg 4 Pro, which is technically a VGA cooler but with some modding it can be a great chipset cooler. For now I used two brackets it came with to put the Iceberg CCB-A1C back on. North Bridge is 45C again... as opposed to 75C. Here are two pics comparing the two: Here's a pic of the VI4Pro without the top cover on. I'll be cutting off the two ends, polishing the edges and slightly widening the two smaller holes closest to the fan to allow it fit on my chipset properly. That'll be fun.

Application Defense. whats your choice?

Albator, I'm well aware of what kind of program it is. A co-worker of mine wanted to know which file a process was corresponding with and FileMon helped him. This is helpful when malware that doesn't use an executable and thus doesn't show up in Task Manager and happens to exploit, for example, explorer.exe. It's a method of guarding your processes, which is the point behind the recommendation. -
netcmd.exe seems to be malware instead of a native Windows file. Please scan your system with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D after you update them both. You may also have viruses which you should download a trial version of Kaspersky to clean them.

Sure, if he intends never to actually use his computer...

If anyone wants to see the true heat and temperatures of this particular mobo to get a rough idea for all mobos, check out this link my friend gave me: http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews05/nf4therm...ndex.php?file=1 For a very short period of time, I do not have any cooling on my North Bridge whatsoever and it's 75C steady. My CMOS and System Clock reset and my PC took two pushes of the power button to make my fans spin. I'M A DONKEY ON THE EDGE!

Could you be any less specific? Maybe they're corrupt. Maybe you should try redownloading them. Maybe you should use a different program to extract them. WinRAR? 7-Zip? IZarc? Universal Extractor? Forum Rule:

Yeah, don't listen to me. Slow your system down to molasses going uphill in wintertime. I help people avoid and resolve slow performance, not the opposite.

i nid a registry for automaticaly del temporary and cookies
Jeremy replied to davidyeap88's topic in Windows XP
There isn't a registry key that will remove your cookies and temporary/junk/cache files. You'd have to make a .BAT or .CMD script to do it automatically. CCleaner contains a .INI file that has the locations of both files and registry entries for file lists (aka MRUs) that you could use for your own script. -

I love your spelling and grammar... Download and install CCleaner. -
Download AutoRuns and look for chkdsk under Boot Execute. If you see it, remove the check in the box.

Then you'll be wanting to get a Silencer compatible with your video card. I have the same one that Ripken linked to. Visit my blog page here (might display strange in IE, use Firefox or Opera) to view a step by step installation. It's extremely easy and fun. The fan offers much better heat absorption and dissipation out the rear of your case as opposed to simply blowing down on the GPU or away from it, causing the warm air to further ventilate throughout your case.

Remove all the Nero components you have installed and download Nero Lite Micro. Try using Dial-A-Fix, check off everything under "Registration Center" and let it do its magic. It may ask you to insert your Windows XP installation CD. If this doesn't resolve the problem, go to your Event Viewer and look up any related errors under Application and take any relevant Event ID numbers to EventID.Net for further troubleshooting information.

Download, install and run CCleaner. This will clean out many junk/temp/cache files stored on your system by many applications over a long period of time. Download a trial version of Diskeeper and let it automatically defragment your harddrive. If you prefer freeware I'd suggest JKDefrag. Go to Start > Run > type in "msconfig" (without quotation marks), go to the StartUp tab and deselect anything listed there that you don't want running. Keep in mind that nothing listed there is required for the normal operation of your computer so feel free to uncheck everything if you want. You can always open the application manually later. If you prefer to do this and never have anything load at start-up again, go to the General tab and uncheck "Load StartUp Items". Do you have any anti-virus installed? If so, would it happen to be Norton? If so, please use the SymNRT tool to completely remove it from your system. It is a resource hog and causes more problems than its supposed to solve. If you're wondering what to use, Avast and AntiVir are both powerful freeware alternatives. The two best payware ones are Kaspersky and NOD32. Make sure your device drivers are up-to-date, especially your chipset drivers. You may also have a spyware/worm/virus/malware infection. Please use Ad-Aware and Spybot to clean out the spyware.

I've run into that myself. If I remember correctly, letting chkdsk do its thing to both my drives allowed Diskeeper to defragment. Here's some additional information on chkdsk. I hope it helps. You sure nothing is physically wrong with your drive?

I don't "mess around" with "VCDs", I burn DVDs... meaning I don't waste media until the product to be burnt is finalized. This can be done by saving the project to ISO and mounting it to a virtual drive with Daemon Tools. True, which I can't stand. I hate having insert CD1, 2, 3, 4, then 1 again before setup is finished and then have to keep CD1 in the drive just to play the game. I don't even bother making a DVD from the setup files, which usually just requires moving all the CAB or PAK files to the same folder and editing an INI or .MSI file with Orca. I install the game, patch it if necessary, then back it up with any needed registry keys to an ISO which I burn. If I want to play that game far into the future, I just extract it from the backup. It doesn't get any easier than that. I've never seen anyone backup files to a laser disc. I've only seen a laser disc once in my life and it was in Grade 7 during a class presentation. It contained still images which were poor quality. I've been using CD-Rs since I was 15 and DVD+/-Rs since I was 16. You sound like you're living in the past. DVD storage is by no means whatsoever "new". Have you not heard of password protected archives or encryption, or just keep your belongings close by you at all times when travelling? My personal files do not hang on the wall, they sit inside a binder which is near me at all times. Not so much, no.

I really don't see why you don't just go out and buy yourself a DVD Burner and 50-pack spindle...
-
Windows is always accessing files, it's just the way things work...

You don't want to compress the drive to save space. Everything you do will require the decompression of many files which will slow your system to a crawl. Clean up your system, uninstall some programs, back up your files to CD/DVD/flash drive/external storage. The only way that option gets removed from the GUI like that is if a DLL file is modified. If you are concerned about HDD space, then get a larger drive. A Seagate 250GB SATA2 8MB NCQ drive is $100 from NCIX.com if you live in Canada. Otherwise, get it from NewEgg.com
