  1. Almost never, depending on your downloading habits. I somehow managed to become infected with some dozens of trojans. Kaspersky cleaned everything except for one it did not detect which I immediately e-mailed to Kaspersky informing them. Hopefully, it'll be on a near-future hourly definition update.
  2. You download and install DriverMax, open it, it will search for all your device drivers, you select the desired one and back it up to a folder. The next time you want to install that device, you just use the backup. This is what we do to avoid all the software bundles that comes with some of today's drivers, such as webcam drivers. Logitech Image Studio anyone?
  3. For future reference, search before posting.
  4. Why don't you attempt the method provided by Sonic to see for yourself how small your multi-source can be made and then you'll know for yourself whether or not "it can be", instead of asking the same question repeatedly getting you nowhere. We're not going to take your source and do it for you.
  5. You can use DriverMax to backup the sound drivers and forget about any bundled software that goes with it.
  6. You were already told by Sonic.
  7. If you received malware via IE, improve your computer sense/browsing habits. Delete the shortcuts and use Firefox or Opera. I've gone to the nastiest sites I can think of in Opera that would infect my PC enough for an immediate format if done in IE and I'm clean. It's up to you to make your own decision.
  8. Granted I will do that on my system but any relative's PC I work on I leave it and upgrade to IE7 for them, but advise them to use Opera for the superior security and customizability if they like it. I aim to please.
  9. Tarun, you've never actually really used nLite but continue to blame it for a n00b's ability to cripple their installation by removing, say, everything... I fail to see how someone claims to be an expert when they've never even really dealt with what they curse to a blacklist. You say because it removes Services, well only if one selects a Service. Anyway, I always remove IE but not the Core and I've never had any related problems.
  10. Who said alphabetical order was best for performance sake? As I understand it's by either last access date or last modification date. Are you an NTFS File System Specialist/Guru? The ones this Diskeeper Topic @ The DriverHeaven Forums (which I participated heavily in had something completely different to say about fragmentation and the pros and cons to using either Diskeeper or PerfectDisk. I'm well aware of this, do you not know about I-FAAST? Mine is lightning fast. This is very vague. This is true even if you simply defragment the drive without any file placement. Think about a 3GB file in several hundred chunks, how much do you think the drive "head" has to move around to read that file, compared to having it totally defragmented thus in one solid chunk? It takes longer to read a fragmented file than it does a defragmented one. File placement is the next priority, not the first. Larger HDDs are faster than smaller ones due to the capacity of the platters. Zxian explained this to me once, he should do so again. I need a recap on that. Every defragmenter claims to be fast and effective. I don't mind Diskeeper taking its time because I sleep during the night so I won't put up much of a fight.
  11. The reason why it's on a DVD to begin with is because it's too large in capacity to fit on a CD. I would suggest taking the SP1 source of the Windows version you need, updating it to SP2 and make yourself a single version source on a new CD. If there's another way to achieve what you want, I'm sure someone else with enlighten the topic with it. Edit - In future posts, don't put so many "..............."'s. Complete sentences with one period are preferred. Cheers.
  12. Right click on Program Files and Windows, Properties, Security tab > Share this folder, OK.
  13. Reinstall/update your sound drivers, remove any codec packs/bundles you may have installed, especially if multiple ones are installed and see what happens.
  14. Install .NET Framework v2.0 or reinstall v1.1. If an application fails, the first thing you should always try is to reinstall it.
  15. Make sure you have the latest update for the Java Runtime Environment and reinstall it. Also, clean out your cookies/cache/temp with CCleaner.
  16. Diskeeper's advantage over every other defragmentation tool is that it is completely automatic out of the box (meaning it does not require post-install configuration to do so) and only does it when your computer has idle resources available to fulfill the task. There's actually a portable and open-source defragmenter tool called JKDefrag v3.7 that I would use myself if it supported the same automatic and resource friendly method that Diskeeper did. The main reason for recommending DK (and a trial version as no one should jump the gun and buy something based on a few recommendations and they shouldn't have to pay and thus be urged to crack it due to a cost) is because it just works, just like that. You don't have to be 1337 to use it. If you like freeware that much (and I do too), then use a free one.
  17. If you ever worked in a Customer Service type job for a website that people can order pictures on, you'd be surprised at some answers people give you. Yesterday I had a woman say she was on a 4 year old Mac using IE5.2 (?!) and today a woman told me she didn't even have a computer. Imagine these people playing Poker online and clicking the "You're our 999,999th visitor, click the eternally shaking window with a picture of a dream vacation and enter your credit card info for instant prizes via our secret courier!"
  18. You might be able to disable it in the BIOS. I can do this with my DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D.
  19. A new look, maybe optimized memory usage, a few extra features and you have yourself 2007! Bah...
  20. I signed up for testing of the Release Candidate which was scheduled for release in May. I figured if I were to test that, I'd receive an e-mail about a beta being released. Oh well, time to test it. I tried to run it in VMware Workstation and no matter what I do, I receive: Error! Detect clock manipulation! And running it locally doesn't give me an error but the application doesn't work. aawservice.exe - 17MB in Task Manager but that's all. The interface is excessive but I suppose that's only while they have "2007 beta" plastered on it. I'd consider this alpha at this point.
  21. Put a couple of fans around or under it if you want.
  22. Lack of effort, aka laziness.
  23. Run the Network Setup Wizard, reboot, then right click on the desired folder > Properties > Sharing and Security > Share this folder > Click OK. The root of the drive cannot be shared in this way.

    problem

    1. Don't make one word topic titles. 2. Improve your spelling and grammar. For example, it's "my", not "ma"... 3. You can get it from Microsoft if you provide you legitimate product code.
