DCOM Server Process Launcher

CoRoNe, I've chatted to you before. Thanks for the FilterPack but let go of your ego for a bit to realize the following: People, very intelligent people, like Zxian who have enough smarts to work at a physics university who code algorithms and maintain PCs for other people... he knows what he's talking about. I've read a lot of "advice" from other members of this forum and Zxian is by far the most sensible person I've heard from. I'm not saying you aren't... but also take into consideration that Zxian runs a laptop and not a desktop. I too, like many have seen BV's guide and it's very generalized. Not everyone has home networks of 5 PCs. So stop irritating people with technicalities. You rarely make a post on the forums and suddenly get into a big debate about Windows Services. Zxian has better things to deal with with his time like the fact that some PCs were stolen recently. Anyway, sorry to bring a real life example into a situation like this, I just think it's necessary to make certain people realize things for the better. Cheers.

That doesn't necessarily mean you would be buying it at all. Might mean you planned on downloading it from a friend's FTP Server, for example. Anyway, nothing is certain unless specified.

I view PDF once and a while and I see everything fine. People shouldn't be so picky about the "rendering" engine or whatever. it's fine. And the reg tweaks supplied will hide the banner ads. Don't let a small piece of the GUI stop you from using such a great alternative to AA.
-
You downloaded it over the weekend? Or it took you the whole weekend to find a place to buy it? If you DLed it, then you didn't have any right to get all up tight about the Doom 3 CD Key thing. If you bought it, then good stuff.

"most features"... it is limited on DVD Burning, which is the key reason I don't use it. But no other burning program matters now that NCab slims down Nero. Nothing better than it IMHO.

I think you guys will get a huge kick out of this one from Collegehumor.com. People were hynotised to have sex with chairs. You'll notice one girl gets really into it (looks **** good ) and then the woman in total embarassment once they are released from the hyposis. People Hypnotized To Have Sex With Chairs

I should have made the thread "Best FREE Remote Connection Software". There are too many organizations out there who want a wheelbarrel of cash for these tiny applications that should be freeware. What a disappointment.

http://www.collegehumor.com/movies/1608595/ I was laughing so hard at this it took me 15 seconds to type www.msfn.org. rotflmao... the moaning.... geez, this should be classified as porn.

I'd get a Seagate.

It's not my version, lol. I just used vcBlackBox's NCab on it. I remove everything that it allows so far, which doesn't interfere with Nero's primary function of Burning. It takes the nero.exe from 33 MBs to 14 MBs. It pops open a cmd file where you put in your serial number before you remove anything, and you can put in reg tweaks; like if you don't want Nero to eject the CD/DVD drive after burning or if you don't want it to cache files before burning... etc. Then you just save the CMD, close it, press enter, then hit Y for yes to remove this and that and finally it gives you the option to do 7Zip ultra compression to recompile the archive and it makes it silent. Just visit the thread I linked to see what he said about making it work for Nero 7 once that comes out. I really love NCab. It's just like nLite in the sense of what it does. NVE = Nero Video Editor? I think I saw this in NCab. I removed it. If I'm going to edit video I'll use VirtualDub or Adobe Premiere Pro. AviSynth is too advanced for me.

I love UltraVNC. You can download the package that contains a "mirror" driver that enhances visual quality, a DSM encryption plugin, the Server and Viewer. Or you can download the Server and Viewer as stand-alone EXEs. The icons are like "third eyes" which is cool. The configurations are straight forward and easy. Literally takes less than 1 minute to setup once installed. It's a lot of fun to help someone out using that type of communication and it's a thrill to be able to control their PC, but not in a malicious sense... at least not for me. Cast your vote!

BitComet Shareaza is garbage. King Pending. Man, didn't I post here already? All the polls seem to have reset.

Ever since I heard the new Security Now episodes done by Steve Gibson and a friend, I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro v5.5 Build 2710. I love it. Also a DI-604 Router with optimal configurations and updated firmware.
-
PerfectDisk, why did all the polls start over?

Nero Custom Applications Builder (NCAB)
Jeremy replied to vcBlackBox's topic in Application Installs
Well done on v2.10. Just made my new Nero install. Proud of ya. -
I use my custom install of Nero made with NCab. I use Daemon Tools with the attached CMD to add Mount and Unmount Image into right-click context menu.
-
Then use MPC. BSPlayer is iffy.

I just want to reenforce Zxian's suggestions. He gives some of the best advice around. RAM "cleaners" are pointless. I mean, if you have 5 applications open and you run a RAM cleaner, it takes all the ram in use and puts it back into the "remaining" pile. Then all your applications have to re-consume the RAM. Absolutely retarded. - Clean your registry with JV16 PowerTools 2005. The less bloated the registry is, the better. It will speed up the PC a bit. - Defrag with PerfectDisk and use SmartPlacement. I cannot stress this enough. Files fragment, the more you write, delete, move, whatever. PerfectDisk installs only 2 Services which you can then set to Manual. It will analyze, tell you what is most fragmented. The SmartPlacement will not only defrag the files but move everything to the edge of the disk for optimal disk access. Also, it does an "offline" defrag which defrags your Metadata and system files. - Use CCleaner to get rid of all the temp/cache. Don't remove the Prefetch as Zxian says. Unless you have a lot of RAM, I honestly don't see the problem with removing the PF. If you install and uninstall software frequently, then the prefetch files corresponding with your previously installed programs will remain in the Prefetch folder. It's recommended to check up on the PF once a week. There are many different opinions on the PF, though. Ask Zxian for more info... - Disable/set to manual any Services (Start > Run > services.msc) that aren't necessary. I can't say that and expect you to know which ones you need and don't need. Some obvious essentials are: - DCOM Server Process Launcher (if you're using SP2) - I usually leave this enabled. it works in conjunction with Windows Installer. If it's disabled and you run an installation that requires the InstallShield Engine, the install will stall and error out on you. But if you're 100% certain you won't be installing/uninstalling any programs than disable it. - DHCP Client (For some DSL/Cable connectivity). Unless you manually assign your internal IP address, you can disable this Service. - Plug and Play - RPC - Windows Audio if you like any sort of sound on your PC. If you use a network, host a server, anything that uses a network protocol then: - Distributed Link Tracking Client, Network Connections, Network Awareness Locator, Computer Browser, Server, Workstation. if you do any sort of Remote connections or VPN then: - Remote Access Connection Manager, * * Auto * * Cryptographic Services is used for a lot of things involving server connections. Even if you disable it, it will reenable itself. Windows Image Acquisition - Used for connections to webcams and scanners. As you can tell, I listed more than essentials, but that should give you a good grasp. You could always just look at BlackViper's guide. - Disable any startup entries you don't need (Start > Run > msconfig) - Make sure your case has good airflow (if you don't have a good case, get one. ) I recommend the newest Antec case. Zalman and Panaflo fans are the best. 120mm rear fan and 80mm front fan, any dust that gets blown in will be sucked out the back. Logically, you also want more air being blown out than in. Maybe a fan for the mobo chipset, ramsinks for the ram, a fan for between HDs if they are close together, and a nice Zalman or Thermaltake heatsink for your CPU. - Also, for further cooling, if you have a modern ATI or GeForce video card, look into a VGA Silencer. It will cut your temperature in half. - Finally, use nLite. Did I miss anything or lack clarification? If so, I'm sure someone else will help out furthermore. The more tips the better.

Uhm, I don't think anyone wants to deliberately infect their PC with viruses...

What are some of the highest framerates you've gotten in games? I have enough common sense to realize that you'd get different fps depending on the game, if you were running anything in the background (programs, services) while playing, that would affect the performance. CPU, RAM, Video Card... Anyway, feel free to throw in some numbers.

To each their own, but LimeWire *SUCKS*. Searches for everything you're not looking for, takes forever to start up and shut down... Ahem, anyway, I don't like Java. I don't go anywhere that requires Java. Although, I had to install it today to test if I could do a loopback connection to my own PC with UltraVNC, which *RULES*. Once I found out it worked, I uninstalled the Java.

www.opera.com (Which should be .org now) This is the absolute Pwnage! Many will realize now that any/all arguments of Opera's disadvantage towards Firefox was that it was a payware browser are now no longer valid. Opera will obviously increase in usage and probably be victim to more exploits once it becomes more popular, but it will immediately resolve any future issues. I knew I was using the best browser. *Sense of comfort*

"OMFG there's a desktop icon missing on my computer!!!! Well, time to rant to tech support and buy a new system!!! The new one will surely have the desktop icon I'm looking for!!! yes, I feel so much better now!!!" And bells and whistles have nothing to do with whether it's a business PC or home PC, it depends on the user. I removed 450 MBs of XP Home with nLite so of course I don't need annoying bells and whistles. We have two PCs at home, very simple networking would be involved there. No use for XP Pro. If you're an average joe, you do not need XP Pro. "Ohh you want to network 5 computers and plan to do total system backups??? Then please purchase XP Ultra Mega Super Duper Godlike Corporate Insane 1337 SP10!" Even if I owned a business, I would not buy Dells. I think it's an insult to the PC itself not to have an AGP slot on the mobo. Also, prescotts get insanely hot so I'd use a really good thermaltake or Zalman heatsink, ramsinks, chipset fan, harddrive cooler, 120mm rear fan, 80mm front fan and a nice PSU. Good airflow is essential. Well, all that may not be financially possible if you're starting a business, then again, fans don't cost very much. "Dirt cheap" actually. Just a reminder, anyone who is looking for intelligent facts, please refer to Zxian. He's not an id***.

Which program do u use for windows systray clock?
Jeremy replied to Nepali's topic in Software Hangout
I'm not that picky. It shows the correct time at any given moment, which is all I ask of it.
