  1. Means you tried to Uninstall the servive pack from the command line... Did you run this: C:\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\? Might be time to format and reinstall... you have backups right?
  2. There is a fresh patch out from MS just for XP USB issues... Download from MS
  3. I'm not being defensive.. And I said that MS is not responsible when 3rd party applications break the OS. The responsibility falls on the company that wrote the code. MS is not responsible for Norton products nor is Norton responsible for MS operating systems...
  4. Please explain how exactly MS is esponsible for the code of lets say Norton or MacAfee... So MS is responsible for ALL the code that runs on XP? MS has for years allowed 3rd party companies to test their code against all MS OSes to gain Certification. MS will not give certs to crappy code. That is not their job nor their responsibility. If I'm a code developer who works at Norton, then it is my companies responsibility to make sure "our" code works with whatever MS throws out there... MS has worked on SP2 for some time... it's not like they just threw the SP2 code out there and will stand around while the dust settles... Norton knew there would be changes... it is their responsibility to make sure their code works...
  5. Yes we will see "bugs" because most people out there have no idea what they are doing...
  6. It is not the job of MS to make sure every 3rd party application works under SP2. That is the job of those affected 3rd party companies. They all knew SP2 was coming. It was their job to test their code against SP2. That is not the job of MS... MS is ONLY responsible for their own code! Patches have already been issued for issues with SBS 2003 and the MSBSA 1.2. People have issues with SP2 mainly because their systems are tweaked 6 ways to Sunday or they have hidden issues they are unaware of and they think applying SP2 should work regardless if their system is screwed up or not. I have applied SP2 across 250+ machines and not a single issue... but then we are not a bunch of "home" users with systems tweaked into uselessness... are systems work just fine without all the "user" tweaks...
  7. WU is the service... AU is the method of choice or not, as the case may be.
  8. Get yourself a copy of 2003 Server and use Folder Redirection... then all your stuff is on the server...
  9. Does it really matter... does it make your machine run faster? It's just text on a screen...
  10. Not going to happen... If you want XP features in Win2K ... move to XP. Next, folks will want those same features in NT4... Win2K will only get serious security patches as it should.
  11. I have an NFR copy of 2003 Enterprise with 25 CALs. Got it for free from MS as a gift. I also have 2 copies of SBS 2003 Premium with 15 CALs each 2 copies of 2003 Server Web Edition with 10 CALs each 2 copies of 2003 Server Standard Edition 10 CALs each 2 copies of 2003 Server Enterprise Edition 10 CALs each I only pay $400 a year for 2 subscriptions to the MS Action Pack for Partners... Getting legit code for next to nothing is pretty easy...
  12. Boot from your XP CD and go to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /R Run it till it comes up clean with no errors...
  13. The latest build is what MS has all over it's Website. Turn on Automatic Updates or download the Network Install Package if you can't wait for Windows Update...
  14. A subscription means you pay... and with MS you have to pay to play...
  15. No... Want it on 4 machines? Buy another retail copy off the shelf and then call MS and ask for their additional license discount... You can have up to 3 additional licenses from a single Retail XP copy. Or... Subscribe to the MS Action Pack. Sign up on the MS Partners Web site and get 10 copies of XP for $300 bucks, the first year and $200 every year after that. It's a subscription so you have to buy in every year. 16. I can order 5 Eval kits for XP MCE for $60 bucks each. Later this year, MS will distribute XP MCE to System Builders through normal distribution channels... However, it won't be easy... XP MCE will not Activate without a proper SLP from MS. To submit SLP files to Microsoft, OEMs must provide the following information to SLPSIGNH@microsoft.com. Important Your company must be set up on WHQL to submit files electronically for signing. A Verisign signature is also required. 18. So you can publish "numbers"... who wants the very deep pockets of MS after your a** in court? It's like accounting... pay an account enough money and then ask him, What is 2 plus 2? He will tell you, "Whatever you want it to be."
