  1. Use a better video driver... that is what is causing the BSODs.
  2. Check to see that all of your hardware is on the XP HCL... (Hardware Compatability List)
  3. XP MCE 2005 is also available to any OEM white box builder and it's included in the MS Action Pack Subscription in the Oct '04 update.
  4. Many have had success with loading the Intel Application Accelerator V2.3 for proper HD support.
  5. Just upgrade Pro to Win2K server... then the support you need is built in...
  6. Boot from the XP CD ROM and select the Second Repair Option, also known as Replare in Place. That will replace all the system files and take you through the usual setup process which goes through all the plug-n-play steps but leaves your user dat files alone. Just re-apply all hotfixes and SP2 and you're good to go.

  8. Just download the RDP client for Win2K from MS...
  9. Start... Right Click on My Computer... Select Manage Select Disk Management from below Disk Defragmentor
  10. What are the largest files on the volume?
  11. What does Disk Management report?
  12. As an Admin, you want simplicity... Loose the Workgroup and do Active Directory. You don't really wnat to touch each machine every time you have to configure something. You can roll out upgrades via AD and Group Policy. You have Secondary Login to use "Run As." Publishing printers is a breeze! Make your life easier... Learn AD... it will pay out in the long run...
  13. No limits... SBS 2003 Premium ships with 5 CALs which includes Outlook 2003. Want more CALs, then just purchase what you need in up to 50 max.
  14. I have one running Exchange 2003. Another runs 2003 Web Edition and Sharepoint Services. Another functions as a RIS and Shadow Copy and SUS server. The last one handles SQL and backups. So, 4 machines running 2003 and none used as a workstation. I have 6 others for that... I have been an MS Action Pack subscriber for years.
  15. Just configure SBS Server Performance Reports... I get one emailed to me every morning with a log file and a report on any and all Error Events... Look in the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.
  16. The specific machine you are trying to boot from has to support booting from a USB drive in BIOS. No support - no boot!
  17. The lesson here is don't mess with your Registry files unless you back them up first. Unless you have a backup handy or a recent Restore Point available... your next step is a complete XP reinstall...
  18. There is no need for 3rd party utilities. I bind DHCP and a static IP addresses to a single NIC all the time. In this case, two different subnets and DHCP. I plug this machine into 3 different networks and it is good to go without a single mouse click.
  19. Clearly cribner, you do not know what you are talking about... I remote into my SBS 2003 network almost every day. Either through RDP or when checking mail via OWA and Exchange 2003. This screen is available in every version of Win2K3 server, SBS 2003, Enterprise, Standard and Web Editions. RDP is encrypted and secure. That coupled with a valid user account and strong password and it does not get any more secure.
  20. <<Remember, it is not hardware or config>> That hardly applies if you are running Win2K3 X64... it is beta software... As for the 32bit version... is the SATA RAID on the HCL for Win2K3 Server? Just because another OS runs... doesn't mean squat!
  21. Are you using Computer Associates Unicenter Software Delivery? That may fail after you apply the security update that is included with Microsoft security bulletin MS04-032...
  22. It's locked down out of the box... Just select the role you want the machine to act in and the configuration is complete.
  23. Great ideas but they won't work with SBS2003. There can be no backup Domain controllers in an SBS2003 Domain. Member servers yes, BDCs no. Is it possible to mount an offline Exchange 2000 Information Store (previous backup) into Exch 2003/SBS 2003? Yes, this is possible. Assuming the databases are in a "clean shutdown" state, they should mount when moving them into the Exchange 2003 Mdbdata folder. Just bring over the 4 database files and not the log files, etc.
  24. They use a tool called Sysprep...
  25. Why should we do your homework for you? Google is your friend...
