  1. Quick web search tured out the following: Worked like a charm for me on XP. However, on Win2k you get errors related to the included gdiplus.dll. If you delete all instances of it from the installation directories it appears to run without a hitch. Edit: it appears I had a corrupted file, now it's running great without that modification. However, I had to manually add the main help files to the source, then use NCAB to add the NVE help files (languagepack) to the custom setup--it wouldn't add both.
  2. Hiya awergh, Your patch is awesome! NT4 has never looked better. My only question: Any plans for a sound scheme? Thanks for all your hard work!

  4. In NT4 the best way to do setup stuff like this is not RunOnceEx (which is part of OE Update Service), but RunOnce (which is a Winlogon.exe-initiated script). How I've seen it used: insert a Run (every time Winlogon.exe starts) or RunOnce (only at next Winlogon.exe instance) Key in the reg, then it's deleted it after running. RunOnceEx only works in other versions because they've got OE/IE integrated. Windows 4.0 versions don't have OE integrated. See MSDN Article for once source; I actually first saw this used in a script on a Scandinavian webpage (Swedish? Can't find it right now)when researching an automated install of NT4. Supposedly the MMC was created to allow "developers and users" to "easily create" plugins to do system tasks. Yes, I've tried both the Win2K and XP mmc snapins, none of them work properly in NT4. *sheds a tear for lack of device manager MMC snapin* :'( Why IE55SP2 and not IE60SP1 for NT4? Does it also work for slipstreaming? IE6 support in NT4 is one of its major pluses for me, I need it to work. If it could be slipstreamed...( I know, this is FDV I'm talking to, but still) this would be the most awesome project EVER for NT4. IIRC (check it out in Hotstream posts), Gurgelmeyer consulted with a lawyer, or MS rep, or both, before release. BTW, do you know where I can find the other files listed in #9 & 11? I'm using all the files found on MDGx's NT4 page, and I've got only a small portion of those you've listed. Normally I'd look first on erpman/erpdude's page, but it's down ATM.
  5. I've added the makecabbed TCMAPP.EX_ as an attachment. Hopefully will save Mr. Dunn some bandwidth. Also--as you may be aware, the entire IE4 Shell update is located in the ie5 download, in IE4SHLNT.CAB. It's installed via ie4shell.inf, from that cab. tcmapp.zip
  6. Hiya All, FYI: Hard-as-heck to find TAPI 2.0, anywhere. Hope this helps: Found at Michael Dunn's TAPI Site: TAPI 2.1 SDK Can't wait for the finished project... Thanks for all your hard work!
  7. My $0.02: When I bought my first mainboard with integrated SATA controller, I wanted to go all-SATA and bought one of the first SATA DVD burners to replace my 2.4x LiteOn (my first Plextor drive, http://www.plextor.com/english/products/Archive/712A.htm), thinking it'd be somewhat future-proof... Windows XP did NOT like installing from SATA. Also, many utilities (especially bootable CDs) didn't work from SATA. Finally installed a spare IDE drive. I'm not sure about Vista, or maybe even XP (SP3), but SATA optical drives with XP (RTM to SP2) are problematic and should probably be avoided. Or, at least, be aware of possible problems. Lastly, remember that IDE won't be out of the picture anytime soon, and probably not before even your *NEW* drive has reached end-of-life (as mine did). That being said, that drive looks nice. (IMHO, since DVD-R version 2.1 spec. media became available (up to 16x), ALL media and burners are sooooo much more reliable!) Good Luck and Happy New Year!
  8. Hiya Marxo, How's that WMP7 skin coming along? Thanks for all your hard work!

  11. Sweet, I've just downloaded the new version and am looking forward to installing it today! Thanks for all your hard work!
  12. I'd also love to know how to do this. If you can fool an app to think WIN98 is XP, 2000 should be even easier. It's gotta be possible.
  13. You guys may know already, but Autopatcher 5.6 (still in testing) will include patches for all office versions from 97-2007.
  14. Hiya All, Looking forward to trying it out. Don't really care for the bootsplash though, we're trying to XPize, no? Here's my favorite, don't remember its source (from here in the forums): boot16.bmp Cheers!

Actually, Resource Hacker is for 32-bit files only. Try eXeScope instead (you can get it from Softpedia). Good Luck!
  16. Everest will also do it (not the trial version though).
  17. Hello All, I'd like to set the DirectX debug level to Min or OFF in my unattended installs of Win2K (XP also, if that option exists). I read about this at Techspot: Does anyone know how to do this? In the article, the DX CPL is used...is this setting controlled by a registry entry? If so, it must be possible to add a REG unattended... Thanks for your help!
  18. I've had the same problem with Zip100 Drives, I'll try your script out. Thanks!
  19. ATI HARDWARE+ATI DECODER=HARDWARE-ACCELERATED DVD PLAYBACK. ATI HARDWARE+POWERDVD DECODER=SOFTWARE-ONLY PLAYBACK.
  20. Update: So using only the most recently updated files seems to be OK, as long as they have the filenames referenced in the INFs they're used by Windows and apparently work. Only thing to watch out for is the INFs--for instance, PCtel, 3Com/USRobotics use the same filename for ALL their devices' INFs! Carefully rename the INFs for different devices so as not to overwrite any, this will break support for your devices. Good Luck!
  21. SFC is off and all CATs are removed anyway, so no worries there.
  22. Hello all, I'm having an issue with deploying modems with Win2K, which also applies to XP (to a lesser degree, due to its bundled modem drivers): I'm supporting ~60 different modems. For these, there are 60 different driver packages, totalling ~280MB (uncompressed), ~90MB after using the Driver Compressor application from the MSFN boards. My question: most of the files included (besides INFs) are duplicates of SYS files, each with different versions. For example: AMOSNT.SYS - 11 versions BASIC2.SYS - 11 FALLBACK.SYS - 11 FAXNT.SYS - 11 FSKSNT.SYS - 11 HSF_CNXT.SYS - 7 HSF_DP.SYS - 6 HSFHWBS2.SYS - 6 K56NT.SYS - 11 LTMDMNT.SYS - 15 LTMODEM.SYS - 14 MDMXSDK.SYS - 8 RKSAMPLE.SYS - 11 TONESNT.SYS - 11 V124NT.SYS - 11 WINACHSF.SYS - 14 ETC....and this is not even mentioning the other 251 duplicated SYS files that have 5 or fewer versions. If it makes sense, I'd like to just dump them all in a single folder, keeping only the highest version of each file--since these are pretty much all software modems, this would ensure that only the most recently updated version gets applied. Is this solid logic? Thanks for your help, Nate Klomp
  23. Google is your friend: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mai...?UID=108&kind=1 According to MSI, your mainboard may support up to 1GHz Pentium 3 processor. Additionally, MSI states specifically that this mainboard supports a PIII@650MHz (Coppermine)--but only on versions having a blue sticker with the letter "C" located on the Winbond I/O chip located near the serial port. Glad to hear your PS2-to-USB adapter works for you, I've not had much luck with them (incompatible with many mainboards). Good Luck!
  24. Sounds like an issue for the nLite forum. Good Luck!
