Ternion, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

sysadhater, there certainly is in the .exe you pointed to with your link. I have attached it (had to change the name to .txt due to forum). If you don't have this in your extracted folder, then DL another copy and make the changes BikinDutchman suggested. Enjoy, John.

majormashup, thanks for your reply. The moderators here are usually pretty quick about suppressing talk of SW that was obtained or being used illegally. I know nothing about MSDN, but it sounds like it is very useful to you and many. I do hope you continue to share your knowledge and expertise here. The forum can certainly benefit. BTW I assume you meant MSDN, not MSFN, in your reply. Enjoy, John.

fusetubor, I am curious what happened. The nLite.inf file contains many changes to the Registry and is run via the OEM Preinstall. Please look in your nLited source and search for nlite.in*. You should find NLITE.IN_. This is a compressed version of nLite.inf. I use 7-Zip to extract it so I can browse it with notepad. Mine has 23,000 lines in it. Perhaps since you specified Tweaks section to run, but no tweaks were selected, nLite got confused. Try selecting at least one tweak. I don't know how this file gets run when you turn off OEM Preinstall - perhaps it does not. Did your component removals take effect? Please let us know what is in your nLite.inf. Enjoy, John.

fusetubor, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini (found in your source folder after nLite runs, NOT the _u.ini). Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Also, please attach the .inf it is complaining about. Thanks, John.

justdestroy, please see this and many more found via Google. Do you have a RAID setup? If so, did you also load the RAID text mode drivers? Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

INTI, actually sounds small to me considering what you have added. I made one ISO that was over 2.5 GB. It all depends on what you add. NLite will add many MBs of hot fixes and SP without the ISO growing much because these actually replace existing files in most cases. But, AddOns, I would think will increase the ISO by there actual size. The source CD is probably 500-600 MB, so 1.2 GB sounds about right. Enjoy, John.

sysadhater, I see that you are running nLite under Vista. This may be your problem. You can try XP compatibility mode for nLite.exe. Go to the nLite.exe in the C:\Program Files (x86)\nLite folder (or your equivalent) and set it to XP SP2 Compatibility Mode under the Compatibility tab. What error are you getting and when? Please post a screen shot if you can. I would select Multiple Driver folder and let nLite sort it out. It may ask you to select. Does nLite show it as a Text Mode Driver? I have a SATA RAID and need two drivers, one for the SATA and one for the RAID. They are in the same folder and I let nLite do its thing and it ask me to select between 32 and 64 bit. In the future, please attach (Browse and UPLOAD button in lower right) not paste your Last Session files.Good luck, John.

majormashup, you need to read the forum rules. Help is not given here concerning illegal copies of SW. Enjoy, John.

sysadhater, we need to see your Last Session.ini. Without it, we may not be able to help you. Did you extract the driver file DLed? John.

Thanks, Kurt_Aust, great set of screen shots. John.

michaeldcoates, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Don't know. It is probably Read Only. Try removing that and then try to delete. I think small is the default. Don't know. Enjoy, John.

barnold, I think it has been stated here that the order of normal drivers does not matter. Windows installs drivers by an ID that associates it with a particular piece of HW. Text mode drivers are another thing. The last driver that is installed for a class of hardware is the one that gets used. This question came up because someone wanted to make a universal CD/DVD with all possible drivers. That would work OK with normal drivers but not text mode. Consider driver packs (I know little as I do not use) - I suspect they contain drivers that are never used. Enjoy, John.

UserRob, how did SP3 get integrated? Did it come from MS that way? If so, I suspect you are in trouble. I looked at Newegg and they have Windows MCE 2005 with SP2B (OEM) for $115. Or you could get a new tuner card. Perhaps someone knows how to remove SP3. Good luck, John.
-
sysadhater, how about attaching the driver, so we can take a look. What error do you get? Please make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John. EDIT: sysadhater, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Thanks, John.

syuzh, it sounds like you have identified the problem. Set 'Remove duplicate files' to Disabled and see if it corrects the problem. The manual way to fix this is to create the xxx.fo_ files from the xxx.fon files. Open a command prompt and type makecab and your source file, it will create a xxx.fo_ file. Use the /? switch or Google to see the various switches/options. Enjoy, John. Edit: This may just be the way it is. I did a search of the old machine I run on and never had nLite run on the install disk, and I have NO .FO_ files at all, except the ones in my CD files/folders I run nLite against. Windows might always ask for the the CD. John.

asim987345, had you adhered strictly to this? Have you tried the 'remove only security center and search assistant' experiment, adhering to the one time rule? How exactly is IE changed? Perhaps it should be changed by the removal on the SC. What do you mean by corrupt? Enjoy, John.

michaeldcoates, SP3 is the last SP for XP, but there are a number of hot fixes that should be included. You can also remove unneeded components and drivers as well as change Windows options and tweak many areas. There are AddOns that allow installation of some programs. See the forum on them here. There are also Update Packs containing the hot fixes you need. I use neither, so can't really help, but there is plenty of information on both in these forums - just search. I do use WPI to install several programs and tweaks and find it easy to use and very effective. You should also consider a virtual system (VirtualBox, VirtualPC or VMware Server - all free) to test the ISOs you build. Please make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.
-
Kurt_Aust, thanks, I was erroneously thinking that the SP was being extracted into the source folder AMD64/Update folder. Enjoy, John.
-
Kurt_Aust, thanks. In Step B, why not say extract into AMD64\Update folder? BTW, it has a { instead of a ( like the rest. Why does this need to be done in the source folder? Are the files needed after the SP is installed? I assume the extracted SP2 is very large. I can't see the error messages since I don't have a sign-on for PlanetAMD64. Thanks, John.
-
geb, on the side of your post it says XP x64. If this is what you are going to nLite, see this great tutorial. It also contains all the x64 updates after SP2. GrofLuigi is quite correct about trial and error. To facilitate this, I suggest you look into a virtual system such as VirtualPC, VirtualBox or VMware Server - all free. The first is 32 bit XP only. I have not used VirtualBox because it did not support x64 when I started. VMware Server is very large (almost 600 MB). I would be careful about removing IE. I have seen some here that discovered some applications that inexplicable need it. What kind of source do you have? Some people here have reported problems using recovery CDs. It seems like the manufacturers have made it difficult if not impossible to use their CDs for an install that is not a recovery of their environment. Enjoy, John.
-
Kurt_Aust, this looks really great for the guys moving from 32 to 64 bits. Thanks. I have a few of questions. I assume the 64 bit SP2 is extracted into the AMD64\Update folder? Should the .exe or the .msi be selected - I assume the .exe? What is the failure to integrate error? I assume you know you can create a log by specifying /log:path switch on the integration of the SP. Thanks much, John.
-
tempac, as I said in my original post, I know of no MCE specific guide. Here are the nLite Guides. I would suggest VirtualBox or VirtualPC. I have used neither since I run XP x64 and at the time, VMware Server was the only support available. It is almost 600 MB and the others are less than 40 MB, I think. Search in these forums for others' advice on the two. I don't use update packs and don't know if they are available for MCE, but do a search here for that too. Mainly, search here for MCE and see what you find. Enjoy, John.

How to use nLite unattended without automatic account creation?
johnhc replied to adiadasman's topic in nLite
adiadasman, there is an Unattended sub forum here that can be of help to you. In the Support\Tools folder of an XP install CD is Deploy.CAB. Extract this file (I use 7-Zip) and look at the two help files ref.chm and deploy.chm. They describe how to do many of the things you need. Hope this helps, John. -
Zatar, you should have stuck to your first topic and attached your Last Session.ini as I requested. We would be a step ahead now. I also don't know what program keeps asking for WMP11. If you are running nLite under XP to create an W2k ISO, that is probably not going to work, particularly if you are slipstreaming an SP. You might try running nLite.exe in Windows 2000 Compatibility mode. Enjoy, John.
