  1. Kelsenellenelvian, I cannot seem to find any references to XP x64 in the WPI forum. Does WPI support XP x64? Thanks...............John
  2. I'm glad you commented, nuhi, because I had the same question. I had looked at RAID SlipStreamer and wondered if it was necessary. I will be interested in hearing bledd's response. Thanks....John
  3. HJW, I see several interesting things in your three 'download here' links. I did a Copy Shortcut and Paste into my IE7 address bar and saw an extra '/' (%2f) after the http on each. I removed one and they all work. Sizes you specify in the post do not agree on two: 1)38.9MB should be 41.9 2)46.8MB should be 48.6 3)OK I don't know why your links work and mine don't - other links work for me including your Removal Tool one. Perhaps you have an old copy in your browser cache or Firefox does not care or strips the extra slash. Enjoy............John
  4. HJW, getting the famous 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' on all your 'download here' links. I do not understand what your SFX installers are except you have extracted the original, stripped out unnecessary stuff and repacked into self extracting. I know about DirectX (about half the size) but don't understand the other two. Thanks, John
  5. Kurt_Aust, thanks for the March updates and the reply to my questions. Enjoy..............John
  6. Thanks, Ponch for your reply. Question two was in reference to the program written by iTwins that integrates RAID drivers (see RAID Streamer). I am wondering if it is needed or can I simply include the drivers from my MB manufacturer. Thanks again...........John
  7. Anyone? Thanks much for any help..........John
  8. I am new to slipstreaming but am learning (especially from Kurt_Aust's post on creating an x64 CD) but I do have some basic questions. 1. I see there is a beta available meaning a new release in time. How is nLite updated? Remove then install or just install over old? Will the session .ini files be retained? 2. Is RAID Slipstreamer needed or not necessary? 3. In the burn page, there is a place to insert additional files. I see that these are placed in the target folder but where do they end up after the install? - Windows folder? 4. I assume it is OK to delete old session .ini (and .iniu) files? 5. Is it important to have WHQL drivers? I found that MS offers signtool to build or verify the certificates. Has anyone tried using this tool to verify a driver? I have made several trial builds, learned much and had a lot of fun. Thanks much to nuhi for nLite! I am running Win XP Pro x64 Ed. Thanks for any help.............John
  9. Wow, Kurt_Aust, Thanks for the detailed response! It will take me some time to digest it all and I have some time since I am planning on an upgrade but am waiting for AMD to get their game together. I did forget to ask one question: I noticed you do not include any component removals. I did a trial with nuhi's Safe preset and looked at the removals. They seem mostly reasonable with only a few I would modify. He also suggests that the drivers be removed that are being installed in the build. Thanks again - Great Job! John
  10. Kurt_Aust, Thanks so much for your tutorial. It is a great tool. Being new to slipstreaming, I have used it for educational purposes. I have built several trials, testing various options and tasks and learning a lot. I have also had great fun! I do have some questions: 1.Found a reference to Run1_W2Ksp5.bat. 2.Is it OK to just leave files I don't want out of addons or must I also remove them from the .bat? 3.I have two registry updates I want to include (IE7 search engines and home page). One is a single command I found on the forum and the other is an .reg file I exported from my current registry. How do I include these – put them into the .bat somehow? 4.Can I place files into My Documents (e.g. CPU-Z and SuperPi) of a created user? Perhaps this would require the second pass. 5.Is it a bad idea to include a FW (Comodo)? Would a second pass make this active? - avast! also? 6.I see you have included Flash but not Shockwave or other players. Is there any problem with others? I looked at the shockwave site and found the switches needed and also found that there is both an .msi and .exe installer. Is there an installer type preference? Where in general do you find the switches for installers? 7.I don't understand the reason for the optional second pass. 8.I see you have specified Fully Automaticic. Will the Repair (reinstall) option be available? Thanks much for a great tool and any help you can give me.........John
  11. Thanks, Kelsenellenelvian for your reply. The screen shot was very instructive. I could not quite see the size of 3.5 but it looked like 34MB - much smaller (perhaps MS is getting better). I too have not neeeded 1.1. Thanks also jcarle. I will definitely install 3.5 when I upgrade. Thanks to both!......John
  12. Thanks, Kelsenellenelvian for your reply. I assume this means that all three would be installed and explains why the installer is >200MB while the 3.0 one is only 90MB. Would I see all three in the Add/Remove list? Is it ever necessary to have more than one version of .NET? I installed .NET to accommodate applications that required it and have (obviously) little knowledge on it. On my current machine I had installed 2.0 then installed 3.0 when the update came out. I was surprised when both 2.0 and 3.0 showed in Add/Remove and wondered if I could remove 2.0. Can I install only 3.0 and have all my applications run or do some really require only 2.0? Some applications do say 2.0 or higher but most do not and some say 2.0 but don't specify 'only.' Perhaps the full redistribution packed for 3.5 is trying to tell me something by including all three versions. Thanks for any help you can give. I am learning a lot in my slipstreaming voyage. John
  13. My plan, when I upgrade, is to only install the latest version of .NET Framework. Will WUD (nLite and other utilities) work with .NET 3.0 or 3.5? Thanks....John
  14. Thanks, jcarle for your reply. I was suspicious that was the case. I have installed and run WMP11 Slipstreamer and it seems to work fine. John
  15. I DLed and installed WMP11 1.1 Build 60 and the x64 version of WMP11 on my XP x64 system. When I run the integrator I get an unhandled exception -The system cannot find the file specified. I looked at the details and looked into setting JIT with no luck. I have both .Net 2.0 and 3.0 and found two machine.config files. They are both .NET 2.0, one includes the 64 in the path name. I set the <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> command into one then both but could see no difference. Perhaps my system is using 3.0. Is it OK to run both or just 3.0 for your utilities? nLite and WUD seem to work fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..........John
  16. I have successfully integrated the Catalyst 8.2 drivers into XP x64 using nLite. I have not tested the image because I do not yet have the hardware it is intended for. Here is what I did: I ran the ATI setup until the extraction was complete then canceled it. A search (Start-Search) was done for *.inf in the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\8-2_xp64_dd_ccc_enu_58129 directory. Eight files were found and I used all (probably bloated) of them in the Drivers page of nLite. The integration was executed and completed with no problems/error messages. Before I started this process, I created a System Restore point in case something went awry. During the running of the setup, I got several messages from my firewall (Comodo) that ATI was trying to alter protected keys in my Registry (allowed). At the end of the process, I did a System Restore to the point I created at the start. The files created in the setup procedure will be lost in the restore so they should be placed in a safe place. The Desktop is not safe because it is restored by System Restore. Please let me know if you have any recommendations or comments. Thanks...............John
  17. radix, Thanks much for your reply. I tried extracting (using 7-Zip) the 8.2 drivers and got many messages about duplicated files. The files were always a different size and created on a different date. I guess the extraction during setup knows how to deal with these. Since I am not going to install these drivers on a running system, I would not need to package or execute setup.exe - correct?. I will want to use nLite to integrate them into an .iso. See any problems in doing so? Thanks again and sorry for misspelling your name on my previous post.........John
  18. Thanks, jcarle. I am now on my newer machine that does not run Zone Alarm Pro and do not see the problem. I assume ZAP is somehow interfering with the DL. I will do some research when I bring up my old machine. Thanks for your help..............John
  19. jcarle, I have tried to DL a UL (any of them) and I am sent to your main page. I tried copying the shortcut and got the same behavior. It may be my security SW but it worked for me a few days ago. Thanks................John
  20. radic, I am also interested in integrating Catalyst drivers (XP x64). I understand the part about stopping an install as soon as the extraction is complete (can I just use 7-Zip to extract?). But, I don't understand why you are removing the list of files you gave and what you mean by running setup.exe /k (what does the /k do?). I haven't tried to extract the 8.2 drivers using 7-Zip but I did try 7.4 and got many messages about duplicate files and did I want to replace them. Why are the South Bridge drivers in the 8.2 package? Has AMD packaged Catalyst and SB drivers together? Thanks much...............John
  21. Thanks much, jcarle for your reply. I don't feel anyway near qualified to update the XP x64 ULs or I would give it a shot. I do hope a more qualified person will do the updates. Thanks...........John
  22. I noticed that the latest UL for XP x64 is dated 9-4-2007 (internally dated 8-22-2007, a discrepancy covered in the BUG sub forum). This file is almost 6 months old and I was wondering how often the files are updated? Is one due soon? Thanks much.........John
