    xp nlite boot disk

mzik, APM stands for Advanced Power Management. There should be an APM tab on your Power Options under the Control Panel. I have no APM tab on my machine and am not familiar with this. Do you have Computer Type on the Unattended section of nLite set to Automatic? Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.
  2. S1L3nCe, great, glad it worked and thanks for reporting back. Enjoy, John.
  3. Eliasrd, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.
  4. fffrrr, WOW, what a list! I will try to comment: I have never had this problem, or heard of others having it. I suspect you have run nLite more than once on the same source, or see 8. Since I run XP x64, I am not familiar with this option. Have you used the /PAE in your boot.ini file? Have you seen this article? I have not tried this (I'm running on VM at this time), but have heard not one else complaining. See 1 above. The only one I would worry about is Internet connection wizard and maybe error reporting. Text mode drivers, I am told, are only the ones for the install device. If you put in several, then only the last is used, so be sure the last one is the one you are installing on. For drivers that are used after installation, there are manufacturing and device IDs that allow use of the proper drivers, so install all the non-text mode drivers for all your hardware. I know nothing about Xprise and suggest you consult that forum. In general, code that is slipstreamed does not show up in Add/Remove. Most programs have an uninstall file which you can use if you can identify and find it. I have never had problems with nLite making an ISO or burning a CD/DVD. I suggest you set your burn speed down till you get consistent quality results. Hot fixes are not sorted by nLite and must be placed in the correct order. I strong recommend against removing IE. This leads to grief since it is so deeply buried into Windows. I would think that after removing windows components that they should not be updated and WUD should see this and send such. Please be sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and do all you work in one nLite session. If you have specific questions, please Attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Enjoy, John. PS. NLite is for private use only, so any SW pre-installed on new computers is not done by nLite. Recompiling will not make a program slipstreamable. Creating an AddOn with the program will - see forum on the subject here.
  5. turbines, you need to place the data on a separate line, like this: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "Config"=dword:00000017It worked fine with this change. I think the same for the other. Enjoy, John.
  6. Kurt_Aust, glad you are back and had a great time. In reference to your picture: People are just strange, well, except for you and I. On a technical note, apparently we will not have a slipstream function for IE8. Slipstreaming will be supported only in VISTA. See the Video at the end of ths post. Enjoy, John.

smallcave, be sure to use vLite and post in that forum. Enjoy, John.
  8. turbines, one of the weird things about this process is that if the entries contain errors, you still get the message that all went well, only the changes are not there. Do you have a blank line between the Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 line and the first key, at least one blank line between keys and at least one blank line at the end? You don't need to reboot to see the changes, just click Refresh under View of Regedit. You do need to reboot for the changes to take effect. If you continue to have problems, please post your .reg file and we'll have a look. Enjoy, John.
  9. JohnnyMartins, thanks for an interesting video. For those interested in only the XP slipstream part, skip out to 14:30. Basically, IE8 will slipstream into VISTA, but not XP. Enjoy, John.
  10. S1L3nCe, I see nothing in your Last Session that would cause your symptoms and have never heard of them before. Usually, weird symptoms are caused by running nLite more than once against the same source. In your Last Session, I see no drivers or hot fixes, which leads me to think you have done just that. Try starting with a fresh copy of your source CD, and make all your changes, add SP3 and hot fixes, drivers all in ONE nLite session and see if that works. I also suggest you get a virtual system (such as VirtualPC, VirtualBox, or VMware Server - all free) to test under and save making coasters. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
  11. _oP, I see you are running nLite under Vista. Kelsenellenelvian says this works for him but MS has another story. If possible, please try running nLite under XP or rerun under Vista and don't slipstream SP3. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
  12. S1L3nCe, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.
  13. I called MS again yesterday (Saturday, 1-31-09), since I had not heard from them. They said only that they would report my problems to the developers and would give no indication when we might see another release or updates. He kept saying to watch Windows Updates and the Download Center. Anyone can call them. I would rather not put the number here, but if you go to the DL center, find the Release Candidate DL page and look for the support message and click on it, it will lead you to a page of options. One option is free phone support and has the 866 number. Enjoy, John.
  14. Kelsenellenelvian, are you slipstreaming an XP SP under Vista? Are you running nLite in XP compatibility mode? What about MS KB950722? Are you using 32 versions only of the OSs or some 64 bit? Enjoy, John.

smallcave, I assume this means that your problem is corrected but you had to use winnt.sif. Perhaps nLite has a problem when in Prompt Repair that the Computer name is not set correctly. Please let us know if you still have a problem. Enjoy, John.

cure and mihaipo, you probably will need to cut another ISO and re-install. Unless you set the Unattended mode to Prompt Repair, you will not have a repair option, but you could try the original CD. First, try just inserting the CD and when it Auto Starts, select Install optional Windows components. This will probably not work, but it is worth a try. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.

    what did I delete?

otyk, when you open a reply, down in the lower right corner are two buttons. Use the Browse... button to find your Last Session.ini (in your source folder), then use the UPLOAD button to attach it. Enjoy, John.

    what did I delete?

otyk, don't know, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.
  19. TranceEnergy, the IE8 support center was open today, so I called them. They have reported problems to the development team and they are being addressed. He said to keep your eye on the MS DL site and WUD for updates. He would make no predictions about time frame. Enjoy, John.
  20. _oP, please attach (not paste) your Last Session and we'll take a look. Enjoy, John.
  21. RiderZen, Richard Arkless gave you some great advice. Also, you should start with a fresh copy of your CD and do all your work in one nLite session, applying only one SP. There are a number of free virtual systems, such as VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server. A VM will save you many coasters. Enjoy, John.
  22. TranceEnergy, I have not received a call as MS said I would, so I will call them Monday. I installed IE8 on my XP x64 under VM and I had no problem with WUD. I also discovered that the /log:path installer switch not only does not work, but prevents the installer from running. Enjoy, John.
  23. leinan, you need to answer the questions in my last post. When you run the experiment, please start with a fresh copy of the CD. Enjoy, John.
  24. idgaf, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. This is my canned response and I think some have become tired of it. Also, please let us know if you are using a recovery CD. Are you sure the key goes with the CD? Enjoy, John.
  25. leinan, I have two NV4_DISP files in my source files, a .dll and a .inf (.IN_). Is it one of these? If not, what is the extension? The .inf is an nVidia driver file - ltsnow was correct. They must be drivers that come with Windows. If the error is in the .inf, please attach it. You may need to change the extension to .txt. Also please post a screen shot of your error message. Your Last Session looks fine to me but I know nothing about the AddOns and Packs you are using. Try removing everything in the Hot Fix section and see if nLite works OK. If so, add about half back in and try again. Perhaps you can narrow down the problem. Hopefully someone with AddOn and Packs knowledge will comment. You also may want to specify Fully Automatic in Unattended if you want a completely silent install. Enjoy, John.
