  1. YOur question for the meanings to all components within the winnt.sif file lie within the ref.chem file which is a help file found in the XP Support tools file. This can be downloaded form Microsoft.com/downloads
  2. What yo do is doubleclick to start the original exe off. Whne yo get to the Accept License, pause Open WindowsExplorer Browse to c:\documents and settings\<user profile>\local settings\temp And in there you will find some temp folders. Find the msi file, it will be obvious Copy it to another location Cancel your running install as is no longer needed Rename the msi, easier with no spaces Use that with the switches off /quiet (no dialog box) /norestart (as it say) your Runonceex will look like this REG ADD %KEY%\05 /VE /D "Java 1.5.0.02" /f REG ADD %KEY%\05 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\Java\Java_1_5_0_02.msi ADDLOCAL=1 MOZILLA=1 IEXPLORE=1 NETSCAPE6=1 JAVAUPDATE=0" /f The swithes have explainations found on this forum or at sun's website Hope that helps a little
  3. I knew you could use the switches in way you wish, I don't, as is easier to use the msi, as less likely to get the command wrong and switches are much simpler. As for the iTunes msiexec, i don't have, but can offer these links to where other have done iTunes installs; http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...30941&hl=itunes The one above, i think will interest you more. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...42348&hl=itunes http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...34073&hl=itunes Sorry can't be any more help than that.
  4. For Java 5.02 - run it and beofre installing coolect the msi file it actually uses. The just use the switches of /quiet /norestart. For the optional bits you can still use ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1 JAVAUPDATE=0 Do the same for Acrobat Reader - run it and collect msi file and use switches /quiet /noorestart For MSN7, i just use /quiet /norestart and it doesn't give me the toolbar or other rubbish. You have Acrobat & Java & MSN listed twie - not helpful. For iTunes - search as i know i've seen it on this site. For Firefox - search as i know i've seen it on this site.
  5. Why not just run, grab the msi file from c:\documents and settigs\<profile name>\temp and use that with the switches /quiet /norestart. So much easier and is actually a smaller file to boot.

    XPize uAE 1.1

Cheers, I just wanted to make sure before running.
  7. One way would be to insall regsho, run the before scan, make changes to googletoolbar, run after scan. it will show regkey that it uses to enable|disable As for IE toolbar, do the same
  8. If your runnig XPSP2, you already have it. Otherwise, what update are you revering to?
  9. No, the method is fine. If your applying some to do with apps, then your better applying in the runonceex before and atfer an application install. If they are general ones applying to XP, then check they are correct. Two ways to do this are; use something like virtualpc or use regshot to do a before, make change, grab file of changes and see if it is different to what you were applying.
  10. Seems fine, but not having a Dell CD I can't say yes or no, but seems to work fine for others.
  11. You can use the one that came with your computer, you just need to use the instructions given previously to slipstream in SP2 to it. Then go to http://unattended.msfn.org which will show what else you can do. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer
  12. A quick search using +dell +sp2 revealed this. User said it worked for him, so try it ou http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32499&hl= I don't think nlite will work for Dell CD's as they are a tad different to retails or others, but you could try.
  13. Welcome, A good place to start may be http://unattended.msfn.org as it wil show pretty much all you need to know. If your trying to slipstream SP2 into a Dell CD, you will need to make mods first. Can't remember but a search will get you the answers. Otherwise you Copy your XPSP1a cd to a folder called XP on your c: then click start | run and type "<FULLPath to SP2 file>" /integrate:c:\xp and it will then slip it in as expected And that's the start of a habit that can take over as you wish to get your UA CD just right.

    XPize uAE 1.1

Sorry for is possibly a stupid question. The file i downloaded is called "XPize uAE 1.1.exe" however in your example you wrote start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\XPize\XPize.exe /S Did you rename it to lose the spaces? or am i mssing something. Thanks
  15. Could always take a look here Http://unattended.msfn.org and you'll notice it explains all very well on when and how regtweaks.reg is applied and what it does
  16. What is wrong with 3rd Party firewalls? and what do you mean about it take up space, as if sp2 doesn't!!!! I have SP2 with it's firewall off, as got a 3rd Party which i'm more than happy with. If SP3 does arrive, it will probably be as simonsays said, and be huge and again we'll go on about how do i remove this? why did they add that? why is that missing? Some people will never be happy.
  17. Didn't even know they'd release Update2 for this. Thanks, now will have to download and add to CD for next time it's needed.
  18. got me too, and chuckle
  19. Open the command box and type net send It will show something akin to this NET SEND {name | * | /DOMAIN[:name] | /USERS} message If you look you can send a global message to all users or specific users Hope it helps edit: you don't need the messenger service started for this if i remember correctly. We use NT4 at work, so no messenger and it works a charm
  20. Apologies if wrong; Win2k has a compatability option on the properties of the .exe file. If you look at this you should be able to do what you want and also make it more compatable with W9x as well if needed. Hope that helps
  21. If you set persistant to yes, that should map whether it can be seen or not. However if you use different u/n & p/w to access the shares to the normal login it will still prompt for them to be entered and you will still then get the failure prompt at least.
  22. You can't. The change will effect all balloon tips. They are either on or off. Search the registry tweaks section and it is there. Also if you visit http://www.winguides.com/registry/ it will show you the reg key and also say it can't be done to specifics
  23. You could always use the /s swicth or look for the switch finder program i've seen about this forum Essentially you drag dap73.exe onto it, it tells you what switches it has availble to use. Much easier than creating a msi, exepecially if you've not done before, and you don't need to extract the files to make. If you do start the install, you'll probably find them in "yourprofile\local settings\temp\<weirdnamedfolder>" Hope that helps
  24. Sounds like it can't find RD, which is the command used to RemoveDirectories. This is possibly run from your cleanup.cmd, if you use one. So, check this uses the correct string, paths are correct. One way to test is to run the command manually, does it? if not could point to a set path= issue. Hope it helps
  25. Just curious, but have you tried this Telenut? as i would like to use but am a little wary of doing so.
