  1. Okay. I want to test it on a VirtualMachine now. Microsoft VirtualPC 2004 doesen't work with XP Home, and VMWare Workstation requires registration, which I keep doing but I always get a 'Store Error' Is VMWare Workstation hosted elsewhere? Or is there any reliable alternate Virtual Machine software?
  2. I created a XP boot disc using just nLite. I now want to test it, by using a Virtual Machine. If my disc has an error on it, is there any way, by testing it on a virtual machine, that it could do any damage to my current setup?
  3. I'm now creating a SIF file. I've completed it using SetupMgr, but it says you can be more precise (choosing what components to install), so I want to do that. I found this list. [Components] AccessOpt = On Appsrv_console = On Aspnet = On AutoUpdate = On BitsServerExtensionsISAPI = On BitsServerExtensionsManager = On Calc = On Certsrv = On Certsrv_client = On Certsrv_server = On Charmap = On Chat = On Clipbook = On Complusnetwork = On Deskpaper = On Dialer = On Dtcnetwork = On Fax = On Fp_extensions = On Fp_vdir_deploy = On Freecell = On Hearts = On Hypertrm = On IEAccess = On Iis_asp = On Iis_common = On Iisdbg = On Iis_ftp = On Iis_htmla = On Iis_doc = On Iis_inetmgr = On Iis_internetdataconnector = On Iis_nntp = On Iis_pwmgr = On Iis_serversideincludes = On Iis_smtp = On Iis_smtp_docs = On Iis_webadmin = On Iis_webdav = On Iis_www = On Iis_www_vdir_printers = On Iis_www_vdir_scripts = On Iis_www_vdir_terminalservices = On Indexsrv_system = On Inetprint = On Licenseserver = On Media_clips = On Media_utopia = On Minesweeper = On Mousepoint = On Msmq_ADIntegrated = On Msmq_Core = On Msmq_HTTPSupport = On Msmq_LocalStorage = On Msmq_MQDSService = On Msmq_RoutingSupport = On Msmq_TriggersService = On Msnexplr = On Mswordpad = On Netcis = On Netoc = On Objectpkg = On OEAccess = On Paint = On Pinball = On Pop3Admin = On Pop3Service = On Pop3Srv = On Rec = On Reminst = On Rootautoupdate = On Rstorage = On Solitaire = On Spider = On Templates = On TerminalServer = On TSWebClient = On Vol = On WBEMSNMP = On WMAccess = On WMPOCM = On Zonegames = On I don't know what half of these mean/do. Has anyone created a guide that says which of these components are nessecities, and thoroughly explains each component that I've listed above?
  4. Thanks mate, that worked. Should the KB###### and Q###### stay out of the i386 directory? Or should I put them back in?
  5. I have no files that begin with KB and have 6 digits in them. But I do with Q, so I'll remove them, and see if it now works.
  6. Thanks. I'm about to start doing this.. QUOTE(sleepnmojo @ Nov 17 2004, 09:02 AM) Check to see if they have any hotfixes on the cd. If they do, you need to take them out before doing the upgrade. Look for a svcpack or hotfixes folder in the i386 folder. Just delete it. Should fix the problem. I did this a while ago with a Dell OEM CD. Like sleepnmojo said, delete the hotfixes. There will also be a bunch of files in the I386 folder that need to be deleted - they all begin with either KB###### or Q###### (# indicating the wildcard is a number). You also have to clean up svcpack.inf to remove references to the hotfixes, and then makecab the cleaned svcpack.inf back to svcpack.in_. From my experience, SP2 won't update the files if svcpack.inf is expanded, but once it's cabbed, it will. There may also be some stuff in the $OEM$ file that needs cleaned. I THINK this is what I did, I'm at work now and can't remember exactly...I can look when I get home. Okay?
  7. Quote: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32499&hl= I don't think nlite will work for Dell CD's as they are a tad different to retails or others, but you could try. I don't have a retail XP cd for that to work, just the one that came with my computer.
  8. Yes it is a Dell CD, and yes the disc came with my computer.
  9. How am I meant to search for it, since I cannot search with the words 'Dell, Mods, or CD'?
  10. No, I'm using the Automated way, following the guide on this site. It gets upto Extracting Files, the bar goes to the end, then I get the error message I mentioned in my previous post.
  11. I've downloaded the Network Installation for SP2. I attempt to slipstream it, but I get the following error message; This Service Pack cannot be integrated into a destination that also has integrated Software Updates. Consult the Service Pack documentation for more details about supported integration scenarios. I seem to have to remove Service Pack 1a from my Windows XP disc, but how? Can you please keep the answer as simple as possible, I'm new to all this and not very computer illiterate!
