I'll be honest, I don't have a direct use for ths type of thing, but do like the idea. As for your shutdown, in XP there is a fill called shutdown.exe, that you could use to force this, complete with a message stating it will happen and why. e.g. shutdown.exe -r -f -t 60 -c "Windows XP will now restart in 1 minute..." Hope it helps

As far as i can tell and investigated, no. It does create your username within the registry, but doesn't seem to like importing during a build. NOt sure why though, as other settings i' import all work, just not username details.

For the USB, i recall seeing something within the regtweaks area that should work. For floppy, not sure

Have you looked in %usersprofile% as some progs extract and run from there, and even use a folder to load from. You may find in long term is easier to have a very clean build of XP only, install an msi builder and make your own. You can then include serial, delete shortcuts etc and will always be silent install.

how can "Setup Factory" type installers be done?
oioldman replied to stickfun's topic in Application Installs
some do allow this. The most common being msi installer files. if you use TARGETPATH=<path> as part of switch it can install to there. Have seen other refs and complete topics to this within forum -
Morning, I have a feeling that if you modify your original folder with a KNOWN good winnt.sif and then create a new iso image and then burn that does your winnt.sif then get used? if so, i would say it is the way nero is or isn't update the image your trying to burn.

Activate Screensaver & Lock Workstation
oioldman replied to jeffsu28's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
You can do this, i did, but found that i couldn't get the station to unlock so removed the reg keys. I used regsnap to note reg changes, but recall them being in HKCU\control panel\desktop -
Hello All, I have a copy of CAD Viewer 3.2 to apply to UACD for work. I'm not sure who actually makes this though, (sorry, will try and find out), but when you install it gives no impression or notice of the install method, be it WISE, Inno etc. I can't open it in WinRAR to see if msi, and nothing is dropped into temp folders in ALL areas to use. Any help is appreciated if you've come across this. an oldman called oi

Switches for Visio Viewer and Chart Editor
oioldman replied to lloydspnm's topic in Application Installs
The Visio Viewer for 2003, if you extract does have an msi in it. Use WinRAR to extract and use the /quiet /norestart switch to install. Chart Editor - sorry not tried. -
do you know a good Passwrd/auto form fill manager?
oioldman replied to ceez's topic in Software Hangout
Cool, so where do you guys live? That way, when i manage to "borrow" your machine and go to web sites, all your details are there for me to use. These programs are ok, but are such a security risk -
Look people calm down, answering the question will help and you'll get help if you ask. Having a go at people helps no-one. You have 4 ports. You have 3 used by your pc's You have 1 free port Plug server into this free port. Your ISP assigns the Modem side an IP Address. Your Router assigns your pc's an IP Address. So if you open a command prompt on your 3 pc's do the command IPCONFIG /ALL you should notice the IP Address | Subnet Mask | Gateway | DNS Servers | Workgroup etc etc If you do same on your server the details will no doubt be same. Now, on the server set these manually, BUT NOT gateway | DNS, unless you want it to have net access. You should now be able to see all PC's and server from within network neighborhood.

Crtl+[ENTER] in Internet Explorer
oioldman replied to Guillaume_fr's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
so if you go to the key we mention, replace .com with .fr, does that do it? If i type msfn and hit enter i find IE tries to open msnsearch and not cycle through the urltemplate list ubtil i do ctrl+enter Or i completely misunderstand yyour request, sorry. -
you can stop known, but only in ways mentioned above along with, Don't turn your PC on. All unknown are preventable using above methods and keeping AV signatures upto date

Downside is, most decent firewalls block all traffic unless you let it through, so you'd have trouble i think. A netstat -a will show what ports are listening and you may be able to piggyback an app onto one of these. Other than that not sure, unless you get more assistance from Cologne people.

What you need is the DirectX 9.0c Redistributable. This is a 34Mb download to self install. Though if you apply SP2 you get DirectX 9.0c as part of this. Url is => http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

Crtl+[ENTER] in Internet Explorer
oioldman replied to Guillaume_fr's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I can't remember where it is, but this is held in the registry and also has the same effect for .edu, .org & a few others. I dea beinng it cycles through until finds right place. In NT4 (currently at work), go here => HKLM\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main\urltemplate I'm guessing roughly same location in XP & 2k Just create your required key and place in order -
Modify your proxy/firewall to allow specific ports/programs through. e.g. If your using ZoneAlarm, the first time a prog tries to access the net it flags up and lets you know, yo can then allow or deny.

2 Windows 2K installs, 1 2003 Server and 1 XP...
oioldman replied to cuddles's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Have to agree with jaclaz on install. But I would check on the M/B manufacturers site if you can get 2k or 2k3 drivers, because if not, your scuppered. -
Silent install switch for Adobe Reader 7
oioldman replied to aresgodofwar's topic in Application Installs
no you need msi and cab. Look for the topic titled => "Adobe Reader Strikes again" in the Application Switches Forum http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=34404&hl= Your answers and more will be in there. -
Please look at my winnt.sif file (newbie :D)
oioldman replied to MunkeHat's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Can you use things like © and ' as i thought these were special characters? -
@DigeratiPrime only need msi and cab to install As you noticed on download, you have no Yahoo thingy (i maybe wrong), so no special switches needed. If your on XPSP2, you are using WindowsInstallerv3, so only switches needed are /quiet (no progress bar) /norestart (obvious) @war59312 Why you using v6 Pro and v7 Reader? that to me is gonna cause a mess and would explain the error you got.
-
/qb-! gives the progress box and hides the cancel button /qn shows nothing
-
Just to add my pennies worth, Why not just get the msi and cab file? In runonceex.cmd file use switches of /quiet /norestart and away you go. Not sure how/why some people manage to make these so complicated for no reason. Or have i missed something. The basic, if you download yourself, has no Yahoo Toolbar, nor Photoshop, nor Adobe Download manager applied. The msi and cab are gathered from c:\prgram files\adobe\adobe 7.0\<forget>\ENU RyanVM msi, appears to be the best for home users, but my company wouldn't like all the tweaks, shame as some are useful. an oldman who's a tad confused
