  1. I could not get this to work - I got an "Invalid Parameters" error, and when I tried "powercfg /?", "size" was not listed as an option. [Win7 x64] Cheers and Regards
  2. @zanet, It's been awhile since I've used Win2K, but I think it's like the later OS such that if you prefer a point and click approach, if you right-click on the disc drive in Windows Explorer and click properties then choose the tools tab you should find an Error-checking option, which triggers chkdsk - which is the "modern" equivalent of scandisk. Cheers and Regards
  3. Well, I'm not a mod or anything, but I would assume that any registry "fix" is permissible to post here. None that I am aware of infringe on any copyright or EULA etc. I would be very interested in hearing the justification from a mod or admin why that would not be true. (But I could be wrong of course. ) I also see nothing wrong in attributing the info to the original contributor by name, unless he asked to remain anonymous, which he apparently did not. Now you might not want to mention the forum, if it was unsavory in any way, and if so you definitely should not provide a link, but I agree that a mod or admin should make the final call. Cheers and Regards
  4. Here you go. OS used -- Win7 x64 App used -- Axialis IconWorkshop Pro v6.62 Font used -- Comic Sans MS Font sizes used: 16x16 -- 8 Bold Font sizes used: 32x32 -- 15 Bold for "SP", 10 Bold for "3.0", "3.1", etc Color used -- #800000 There are eleven files included: SP3.ICO - your original SP3-0.ico - SP3-9.ico my effort as described above Please note that I adjusted the color slightly from my original submission to you. This only effects the 16x16 image. The color was adjusted to match what the 32x32 was anyway due to 16 color restrictions as gerislamico correctly pointed out. Please let me know if this will meet your needs. Cheers and Regards My effort
  5. For those not familiar with gsar syntax, as I wasn't, here is the gsar.txt file contents: Cheers and Regards
  6. Let me know if you need me to provide 3.2 - 3.9 versions of the icon, otherwise I'll leave it in gerislamico's capable hands. Cheers and Regards

  8. I'm not an expert in this area such as Andre is, but it might be along the lines of what you implied at the end of your post. MS changed some things around compared to earlier versions of Windows to improve the user's "experience". They made the desktop appear quicker, even though it was still busy starting services, background programs, etc. So maybe the counting doesn't end until the desktop is usable rather than just visible? That could explain why your stopwatch, based on what was visible, was off compared to what was reported. I would think that the optimization was meant to improve the measurement to usability, but with MS you never can be sure. Cheers and Regards
  9. I'm not clear why you believe that repeating the exact same post here from a different thread http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156746-compatibility-avast-under-kernelex-windows-98-se/ will get you any different answers. But good luck! Cheers and Regards Note: If other regulars are like me, they use the link http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=active which shows the threads that have had activity during a period of time, from 24 hours up to a year, There is also an indication whether there are posts in that thread which you have not read since you last looked at that thread. So while it is important to put your posts in the correct thread for organizational reasons, using that link the regulars will see your post no matter where it is and will just get irritated at the duplicate entries.
  10. It's hard to help when you have provided so little information. Since this was your first post we have no idea what your experience is or what you know how to do. What is your reason you felt you needed to come to this thread, ie what exactly is your problem? What have you done? Did you install the Windows Performance Tools Kit.? What did you do to get the prompt "C:\Users\Theo>" Do you know what that is/means? Do you know how to find your Temp directory and open a cmd prompt window there? The first post in this thread is the tutorial. What part of it do you not understand? How did you "isolate the problem to Hal.dll and iaStor.sys"? Is there anything you think might be helpful for us to know about your system, either hardware or software? If you expect help, you have to do your part. We will HELP you, NOT do it for you. Cheers and Regards
  11. Google each of the various names Rsop Planning Mode Provider, CmdTriggerConsumer, and HiPerfCooker_v1 to try and find the cause. I didn't find the root cause, but these same items have been showing up for YEARS. See here for an example - http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=18226. You are not alone. Cheers and Regards
  12. Upload it to another free hosting service and provide a link here. Cheers and Regards
  13. Thanks, myselfidem, I'll pass along the info Cheers and Regards
  14. I have a very basic question that has to do with making a dual-arch AutoUnattend xml file. If anyone has already addressed this somewhere, please just point me to the link. The way I understand it, 32bit Win7 only processes the x86 sections, while 64bit Win7 processes BOTH the x86 and the amd64 sections? Is there any way to make a 64bit Win7 process ONLY the amd64 section? The reason I ask this is that a friend of mine is putting together a dual arch file. There are a few things that he needs to ONLY run in the 32bit OS and some that he ONLY wants to run in a 64bit OS. But if he puts the 32bit only file in the x86 section then the 64bit OS tries to run that as well. How can we prevent this but still have it available where the 32bit OS will pick it up? Thanks in advance.
  15. Another possibility for their reasoning could be that since they are trying to unify the user's experience on ALL Windows platforms, from desktops, to laptops, to tablets, to phones, to get a unified look they have to go with the lowest common denominator of processing power, storage space, and display capability including resolution, reaction time, and size. Not that it seems very smart to me to shackle a multi-core, multi-processor, multi-display, multi-GB of RAM, multi-TB of storage, multi-GPU desktop with the same restrictions as a smartphone, no matter how powerful they are getting to be, but apparently they have their own misguided reasons. Everything in the quote you provided seems to be marketing mumbo-jumbo that tries to disguise that from the gullible public and convince them that "it's not a flaw, it's a feature!", as you so rightly pointed out. Cheers and Regards
  16. @naaloh To answer your original question: No, as far as we know there is no way to get rid of this behavior. We're glad you already know about the information provided in the link GrolfLuigi provided - Section "USB serial number" Thank you very much also for clearly stating your opinion of this change in behavior that MS began sometime after Win ME and unfortunately continues to this day in all succeeding versions of Windows. Can we give it a rest now please? Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Cheers and Regards
  17. You do realize that you have to "purchase a new Windows 7 PC between June 2012 and January 2013" in order to "be eligible for a discounted upgrade (15$) to Windows 8 Professional", right? So that upgrade license is going to cost you a whole lot more than 15$. Cheers and Regards
  18. I think he's bringing up both OnePiece with tomasz86 because he probably wants it ALL, and up to date, in as few pieces as possible. (As do I ) And actually, tomasz86 also mentioned how to add OnePiece's pack up in post #5. Unfortunately for him, and me, no such combination exists yet. I have high hopes that tomasz86 will be able to complete USP5.2 and add in the extras that are in OnePiece's pack as well, or produce a companion pack with those items. Well, I can dream can't I? In the meantime, if the OP follows the instructions in post #5 EXACTLY, he should be fine. Cheers and Regards
  19. Thank you. Cheers and Regards
  20. @submix8c Actually, it's rule #10. @frogman if you are concerned that you want to be clear that you are addressing multiple people's points, the accepted way is to preface the paragraph with @UserName, as I have demonstrated. If the multiple points are all strictly your own, then it really makes no sense to make multiple consecutive posts. The exception would usually be if those posts are many days apart, and then it's usually accompanied with an apology. Cheers and Regards
  21. In hindsight, I guess we should have just answered the OP: No, as far as we know there is no way to get rid of this behavior. And also provided the link that GrofLuigi provided. Cheers and Regards
  22. You are correct. Very sorry for the confusion. I was unfamiliar with the site and did not recognize the download "button". It worked just fine. Cheers and Regards
  23. Great link @GrofLuigi. Many Thanks! Cheers and Regards
  24. Rapidshare might be the longest lasting. Some of their links are still functional after YEARS. Cheers and Regards
  25. Could you possibly upload that to a host that does not require registration to download? Captcha's, that work, are preferred to having to register. Cheers and Regards
