  1. This seems to be a recurring problem for folks even though it is very clearly spelled out in the instructions. Anyone have any ideas how to make the requirement for proper file placement stand out even better so RTFM responses aren't required as often? Instructions in bold, different colors, flashing text, large arrows, what will it take? Cheers and Regards
  2. @Dogway, do you still have a technical issue remotely connected with your original post that you would still like assistance with? O would you, jaclaz, and/or submix8c just like to continue your discussion about words and phrases and their origin, meaning, or interpretation in whichever language any of you care to use? If the latter, would you please move that part of the discussion to a more appropriate place in the forum? If you choose to do that, I'm sure an admin or moderator would be glad to strip out the relevant posts into the new thread. That part might be interesting for those fascinated by the nuances of language. That would leave the useful technical bits here for others to read if they have a similar problem and they then wouldn't have to wade through the distracting parts to get to the useful info. Thanks in advance. Cheers and Regards
  3. That's my one-and-only browser (IE but version 8)... But no problem, I'll try it from another computer... FYI - I tried IE9, both 32bit and 64bit versions, running on Win7 x64 and in both cases I got the screen To use this Web site's full functionality, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. Which is the same message I got when I tried using SRWare Iron. So the site must have a limited range of IE versions that it deems as acceptable. Cheers and Regards
  4. The website is not displayed correctly in Chromium (SRWare Iron here). The download link is not shown at all Works fine for me with SWare Iron and Win7 x64. Cheers and Regards
  5. @forever0donotknowme, What are you using to integrate the language pack with the OS? WHY do you want the language pack in cab format? And since you already seem to know the exact name of the files you want: (How do you know this?) Google them. You will get links, but I have no idea if they are valid real files since I am not familiar with the sites that are pulled up. I personally would not trust them as a result, but you seem to have a particular goal in mind. Cheers and Regards
  6. What caused the "power shortage"? It sounds like something, either the power supply or motherboard, got damaged by it. Cheers and Regards
  7. I believe the "normal" behavior of an app is to look in the same folder as the EXE, and if not found there to then look in all the locations defined in the PATH, in order. So I agree with allen2 that modifying the path variable should work. Afterwards, you should be able to then edit the PATH and remove that location in a clean up step. Cheers and Regards
  8. Dedication Larry. You're always striving for perfection! Cheers and Regards
  9. I like it too. Cheers and Regards

    HFSLIP-2-Go

I think it's a great idea, but I don't think it will be allowed on this forum. Check with tomasz86 about his experiences. In fact he might also have some suggestions where such a update pack can be hosted and discussed openly. Cheers and Regards
  11. It could just be divided that way for ease of reading. Cheers and Regards
  12. Ignoring the current "discussion" between Lord Wolf and submix8c, and I sincerely hope you both will just drop it.... I'm sorry, but unlike Win7, I am not aware of any place to legally download a copy of an XP ISO of any variety, unless you have a TechNet subscription. (I don't have one, but I think I understand that it would give you access to this kind of thing.) It doesn't matter that you already have a legal key, or that you are just looking for a "replacement" ISO for your missing disc. Some computer suppliers provide the option, for a fee, of having a replacement disc sent if you bought your system from them, but if this applied to you, or you were a TechNet subscriber, I would assume you would already be aware of these options. I've heard that some people have purchased an OS disc through ebay, Amazon, Newegg, Craig's list, etc, but I've also heard that not all of the discs offered there are legitimate, so be aware. So if you have an XP disc of any kind, or can obtain one, that you can update and modify using submix8c's instructions or something similar, along with nLite, RVMIntegrator, HFSLIP, or whatever your method of choice might be, then that's probably what you should do. If you do happen to find a legal source to download an XP ISO, please let us know because I'm sure there are others who would be interested. Cheers and Regards
  13. Very Cool, Larry! And thanks for anticipating my request for full documentation. LOL Seriously, I only use it for backup, as you have had to take advantage of before, but this way if I ever need to try and do anything like this myself I'll have guidance from an expert in place to learn from. Many thanks. Cheers and Regards my friend
  14. The Enterprise version of 8 is different from the Retail/Home versions of 8 in the same way that Win7 Enterprise is different from Win7 Pro or Win7 Ultimate, etc. The same way that Win 2003 is different from XP. The same way that Enterprise (business) versions of Windows OS, meant for an installation with many interconnected PC's, have always been different from Home versions. There are a few different features and there are different activation methods. Sometimes certain apps will work on one and not the other. There are commonalities, and the differences probably won't effect the use of Classic Shell. Whether any of the versions will be different in any way at final release than they are now is rather doubtful at this point, but we'll have to see. Cheers and Regards
  15. Just to be clear, the 90-day evaluation version is the Enterprise version, NOT the RTM retail version, not that I think it will make a difference as far as Classic Shell is concerned. In fact, most people who this version applies to "already have access to the final bits and do not need to download this 90-day evaluation". Cheers and Regards
  16. Thanks. Upon closer reading I see in post #22 Tihiy specifically mentions Ribbon Disabler, so that confirms that. Now I just need clarification re the use of Classic Shell and/or Aero8Tuner with patchex7. Cheers and Regards
  17. If you use patchex7, can you still use Classic Shell as well, or are there conflicts? Is there any advantage? How about Ribbon Disabler? I understand it can be used with Classic Shell, but can/should it be used with patchex7? All three? Does Aero8Tuner in some combination with the previous three succeed in restoring Aero in any way? Just trying to come up with some combination to get the best features of Win8 and Win7. So far, sticking with Win7 seems the best to me. But many Thanks for coming up with patchex7 Tihiy. You've given me hope that Win8 might be able to be wrestled into usable form in case I'm forced to use it. Cheers and Regards
  18. So bottom line, it seems that if you choose to use vLite or similar tools, you should no longer expect to be able to receive any support from MS if you have any problems, as if you expected any support for Vista anyway. You are on your own. But other than that you are probably fine. Cheers and Regards
  19. Bottom line, from looking at all of the posts the OP has made in this and other threads, he has a warez copy of XP SP2 that has already been modified, probably with nLite, that he wants to update to SP3 and further modify with themes, changing the name of the release, etc. 1) Trying to use nLite and/or further update an OS that has already been modified by nLite rarely works. 2) Discussions of how to deal with a warez copy of any OS, besides suggesting that it be thrown away, is prohibited in this forum. Cheers and Regards

    FDV's website

LOL - That's what we're talking about! In the meantime, use the wayback link that tomasz86 suggested - http://web.archive.org/web/20101102041015/http://www.vorck.com/windows/ Cheers and Regards

    FDV's website

I would hope that Fred will help someone copy an archive of his old site somewhere for reference - maybe to your site tomasz86? Send him a PM/email and ask him. Cheers and Regards
  22. Short answer - vLite will work on Win7 RTM but it will error and not work on Win7 SP1 (as integrated by MS). Longer answer - It can be made to work on Win 7 SP1, IF you make your own Win7 SP1 in a certain way, but it's not for the faint of heart. You can do it, using freely available tools, but it's not just a click here and here and then you're done. I have repeated the simplified instructions, originally posted by trala, here - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139874-guide-win7server-sp1-removal-with-vlite-and-rt-lite/page__view__findpost__p__998312, but I have not had anyone else admit they were successful following them. If you're willing to work through the issues, perhaps you would then be willing to write a better tutorial that others could follow? Cheers and Regards
  23. Now if we can end up with an installer that takes care of both MU and WU, works for both XP and Win7, and is both x86 and x64 compliant, we'll have what MS should have released to begin with. Many thanks to all for your hard work on this! Cheers and Regards
  24. How odd! It implies that if you opt into Microsoft Update (the MUWEB.DLL from MUWEB_SITE.CAB) as opposed to Windows Update (the "normal" path that we've been discussing) that you should get it if you have AU turned on (see my SUS vs WSUS link). Not sure I want to "flood" my VPC test bed with Updates... Maybe if you just set the notifications to just let you know if there are any updates available but let you decide to download and install you could pick and choose and get the one you want but not be flooded? Cheers and Regards
  25. Are there other SP's in use that do have "spsetup.exe"? If so, maybe having both lines, rather than editing the line, would be a better solution? That way all the bases would be covered yet not cause you any problems with SP5.2. Or was it just a typo that is just now coming to light? Cheers and Regards
