  1. Yes ownage11, please post exactly what you ended up doing so that anyone who wants to duplicate your results won't have to start over from scratch. Cheers and Regards
  2. I see now, and you are indeed correct. I told you I only did minimal testing. I naively assumed that since it would let me drag sort where it would not before that everything was good, but as soon as I rename any file, they all got sorted. Would seem to be such a logical and useful fix. Must be why they didn't do it. Cheers and Regards
  3. I can't argue with your expertise, but it seems to work for me in a very simple DETAILS view test: This order is maintained once I have run the Disable_Windows_7_Explorer_Auto_Arrange.bat file even after Explorer is closed and reopened. If I put back the default behavior by running the Enable_Windows_7_Explorer_Auto_Arrange.bat file, the sorted list is enforced. Maybe you are talking about something else and I am misunderstanding? Cheers and Regards
  4. Look here - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/38/ - at the very top: On the Examples page - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/12/ - the batch file is listed as start.cmd Cheers and Regards
  5. You're welcome to use this lame attempt at a small edit of that image if everyone agrees that it is appropriate. Cheers and Regards
  6. PROBLEMCHYLD, I hope you will reconsider your decision and continue to include the latest Maximus Decim Native USB, now at ver.3.6, in your Service Pack. While I completely understand your frustration with users not reading the instructions then complaining to you when it doesn't work, I think the convenience for those that do read and follow the instructions should override that. You should not feel required to explain yourself to those that complain, a simple "RTFM" could suffice. If they continue to complain, I'm sure one of the other users will be glad to step in and tell them explicitly that they have to remove ALL USB devices, even if they have to borrow an old style keyboard and mouse to use until the USB stack is reinstalled. If rloew could verify that the Service Pack can be installed in Safe Mode without removing devices that could be an alternate solution. Cheers and Regards
  7. The link that iamtheky provided seems to work for me in Win7 x64 after a very brief test.. Thanks for that! This has been annoying for me as well. xpclient, I would be very curious what you thought about it, though I very much agree that it would be much nicer to have this more easily selectable as you proposed here - automatic sorting. Cheers and Regards
  8. So to adjust the code to work in the US you change the "+" to "-"? And if you wanted to make the code general purpose that would work everywhere? Cheers and Regards
  9. Try again PROBLEMCHYLD, maximus-decim added rapidshare links which work in the US just fine. Cheers and Regards
  10. Are you trying to put in "input" and get out "output"? Is that exact output form required (Why?), or would you rather have a more concise summary of the specific fields you are interested in? Cheers and Regards
  11. Sorry.. I was going to delete it but it was to late. That's why he suggested you use the "Edit Post" button. It's never too late for that, you can edit it the next day or whenever. At the bottom of your post just put "EDIT: ..." and add whatever you wanted to say. If you want to change something you already posted, you can either delete and rewrite it, or strike through what you want to change and add in the new stuff. Editing your post is almost always preferred to consecutive posts. Cheers and Regards
  12. What program? nLite? - http://xdot.tk/nliteimages.html And it would be helpful and polite if you would answer our questions. If the information only flows one way it will quickly stop. Cheers and Regards
  13. Multibooter, I really have to agree with submix8c. Since you have determined that BC is both slow and does not completely download all the files, why do you seem to want to continue to use it? Just to get the folders to have the "correct" date? Why? So what? What purpose does that serve? The beauty of having so many program options to use for a task is that you can use the one that is best suited to that task. You don't have to force a tool to work the way you want if there is another tool available. And egrabrych provided you a link to "Attribute Changer" (for XP and above) that can change the folder dates to what you want them to be, if you insist. I'm sure there is probably an earlier version of the app, or a different app, that will work on Win98, but I haven't looked. Continue to use BC for the main purpose it was intended, file comparison, and use a more appropriate tool for file download. And it seems that it is now agreed that the folders we see with "misspellings" are false positives, which usually disappear upon app refresh, so we don't need to continue to bring up that aspect anymore either. As interesting as this side excursion has been, again I agree with submix8c - this horse is dead. Can we now move on to something else? Cheers and Regards
  14. Yes Andrea, the pic that Andre provided shows that Classic Shell still works for Windows 8 Release Preview ... for now. Cheers and Regards
  15. I'm not sure how knowledgeable and experienced you are, no offense but it seems as though you are a beginner in Windows customization. You have asked about modifying Windows resources, such as customizing the start menu graphics and boot screen, changing theme elements, such as sound and background ie wallpaper, adding default files to the desktop, adding preinstalled and configured apps unattendedly including Office, one of the larger and more difficult ones to do, and you want to do all of this in an unattended install of XP? (I'm assuming XP since you didn't specify.) Do I understand your wants correctly? Do you know how to do any one of those things? What have you tried? What did you use? What happened? As a beginner, asking to do all of those all at once is setting yourself up for frustration and failure and I strongly do not recommend it. To start with, pick ONE thing to learn how to do. Google and read for at least a day or more on everything you can find, preferably aimed at a beginner, about how to do that one thing. Then give us a complete description of your hardware and the software you are wanting to know how to use or implement. Tell us what you understand and what you don't. Tell us what you have tried and what happened, complete with screenshots and/or exact description of the error messages. Once you understand and are able to do the one thing you have chosen, start over from scratch and pick a new ONE thing to learn how to do. Once the second thing is mastered, add the two things together and make sure there are no conflicts between the two things. Then start over from scratch and learn a new third ONE thing, etc. This is a much longer approach than I'm sure you were looking for, but when you are done, you will be able to repeat the total chore any time you want to and modify it as appropriate and you will know WHY it works and will even be able to help others. Learning to do things in this way also makes it much easier to isolate what is causing an error, and you are bound to have many errors, so you might even want to learn how to install and run a VM such as VirtualBox or VMWare before you do anything else. Bottom line, we are very glad to help you learn how to do a computer related task, but we are not here to do it for you. Cheers and Regards
  16. All this gesture talk reminds me of the YEARS they spent talking about utilizing voice input for the same kind of supposed gains in ease of use and efficiency. Besides in movies from the imagination of Hollywood, anybody see those in widespread use today? I guess Siri comes closest, but for regular office work? Cheers and Regards
  17. Are all apps involved, both the ones you make and the tools used to make them, all 32 bit apps? No 64 bit apps are there? Are both your installations of XP and Win7 32 bit versions? Cheers and Regards
  18. I think submix8c would agree with me that folder dates don't seem to be enough of an issue to not use a solution that is otherwise successful, fast and convenient. I don't think that either he or I would worry about the folder dates at all, but it's up to you. I just don't see the point. What exactly is gained by having the folder dates match? If you really insist, there are apps that are able to change a folder's, or file's, timestamp and since I would think the folder's will all have the same date I wouldn't think it would be too hard to adjust them, but I still probably wouldn't bother. Be careful about using your new "toy" (expanding an installer and just copying the files into place). That works fine in this case, and will in others, but you'll have problems if creating or deleting shortcuts or registry entries is involved that don't match what was previously in place. This method is often used successfully in exactly the circumstances you describe, when the installer is the problem, you just have to be aware of the other issues and be prepared to overcome them in other ways - it can be done. Cheers and Regards
  19. Well, if it isn't beat to death, it's definitely on it's last legs. No one is saying that either you or Multibooter is saying anything that you have not seen - you both have shown screenshots to prove it. And I think you nailed it that we all are using different OS/browser/FTP client combinations. It is very odd that they are not consistent in what we see and or download. As such, I know it is driving Multibooter crazy not knowing how to verify that he has the correct content after downloading, which I suppose was the real gist of what began several days ago: I guess this is a perfect example of how having downloadable content compressed into a single file, with a published size and MD5 can eliminate a whole lot of confusion. As it is, just being able to see the directory structure using any of the various means we have all utilized hasn't been much help since we have seen different things at times. But considering it was all supposed to have been deleted over six years ago I guess we really can't complain. Cheers and Regards
  20. Well, it depends. If you are a friend, family, neighbor, etc doing her a favor trying to help fix her machine, then as submix8c said I personally would consider that an extension of "personal use" and that should be fine. But if you are a business, even a non-profit one, doing this for a fee or even for free, then by strict interpretation of the rules we are forced to live by, then I'm afraid that would not qualify. I also have no idea who Herman is. Cheers and Regards
  21. When I look with FileZilla in the ftp.microsoft.com/Services/TechNet/samples/PS folder I only see the folders: MSDOS WIN95 Win98 WinCE Same if I look there with my browser. Cheers and Regards

    Drive Order

I believe that Disk Management, and probably Chkdisk, list the C; D; type drives, they are listed based on which Disc, ie Disc 0, Disc 1, etc, they are located on and on the order that they are added, usually primary partitions first, then logical. The fact that you can reassign drive letters doesn't necessarily change the order they are displayed. It is definitely not straight forward that I've ever figured out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_letter_assignment http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproinstall/thread/2fd9eb26-d317-4c6c-b06b-2eadc7f66345 Cheers and Regards
  23. @submix8c, this is what I was talking about, and what I think the OP was talking about as well. (Yes, I believe you DID misunderstand... sheesh!!!) Cheers and Regards
  24. I believe that what you are describing is regarding opening the document FROM inside IE using an external app, whereas I believe the OP was talking about opening the document WITHIN IE and never leaving IE. As he said, this is possible with pdf files with the appropriate plugin installed. I'm not aware of which, if any, plugins enable this behavior for the document types he listed, but I would imagine that Google could find out for him. I don't know, and frankly don't care, since I avoid using IE if at all possible. I would rather use an external program expressly meant for that purpose. Cheers and Regards
  25. Thanks. As always, I'll look forward to learning a new trick from you. Cheers and Regards
