No offense, but why don't you ask your questions on the sites where you are getting these instructions? Why keep asking here? You are obviously asking about stuff that the members here who have responded have no experience with, members that do have experience, if there are any, apparently have no interest in responding to you, and no one seems to have any interest in trying to install the software that you are finding and getting it to work to run IOS apps on their PC so that they can help you. I guess none of us see any value at all in what you are trying to do, nor do we understand why you are continuing to pursue this. Maybe, if we knew which app(s) you were trying to run we would understand better, but most likely we would just try to suggest an alternate free app that does the same thing that was designed to run on Windows and suggest you use that instead. Cheers and Regards

Are you sure it was IE10 and not IE11 (which is the latest browser for Win7)? AFAIK, All Windows 7 users will get IE11 pushed on them unless they specifically refuse it. And I have seen many sites, including this one, that have various problems with IE11. So much so that I don't add IE11 to any computer that I use and I don't use any version of IE unless I absolutely can't help it. Cheers and Regards

So it sounds like you might be able to resolve this through a router setting. In the meantime, use this - -:-DELETED-:- - if it will help you out. Please let me know once you have downloaded it and I will delete the link, or it will be deleted in 24 hours, whichever comes first. Cheers and Regards

The XP SP4 is NOT meant to be a stand alone install medium, neither from CD/DVD nor from USB. It is meant to update your XP install medium that you already own to the "SP4" state, or to update the XP that you already have installed. You will have to create your XP SP4 install medium on your own. Cheers and Regards

Getting Mim0's file is not a big deal, I can up it for you, and it is not an etiquette issue, but I really think that the fact that you can't get to his site is a much bigger issue that you really need to solve first. Otherwise, you will likely still have the issue with your updated system. You say you have tried with multiple computers and multiple browsers. Are they all the same OS, all run from your home, (ie same router), etc? If one of your systems is a laptop, can you take it to a friend's house and try there, and if that fails try their computer? I'm trying to help you think if there might be some common element between all of the computers and browsers that you have tried that might somehow be the problem. Cheers and Regards
-
Try again with the link in Mim0's sig - http://hfslip.altervista.org/ I couldn't find a browser where it didn't work just fine. And the download link can be found on this page - http://hfslip.altervista.org/filechecker.htm If you are having a problem accessing it, then you really need to figure out why, rather than getting someone else to post the file for you. I would guess it is something in your firewall or AV settings, your HOSTS files, or your DNS (I use OpenDNS). Cheers and Regards

Burning APE, FLAC files using ImgBurn Not Working
bphlpt replied to ZortMcGort11's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I'm confused, or maybe just a noob when it comes to audio CD's. So you had some WAV files that you converted to APE files. Then you want to burn those APE files to an audio CD, right? But when you make an audio CD, aren't those files converted back to WAV files? Aren't all audio CD's made up of WAV files, well actually CDA files, but I understand there is a sort of one-to-one conversion between the two? Yes I know that you can record an MP3 CD where the files are kept in MP3 format that can be played in an MP3 player, but when you say audio CD I tend to think of WAV format. Cheers and Regards -

Compress the log file using 7Zip or the compressor of your choice, upload the file to the file sharing service of your choice (such as mediafire), then post a link to that file here. Cheers and Regards -
From the ad section of Programmer's Journal Jul/Ago 1990 issue...
bphlpt replied to dencorso's topic in Hardware Hangout
I find it interesting to remember that back then that 64KB of memory took up an entire plugin board, probably something like this: or this: (Yes I know that example is of a 4M addin card, and the first one is 64K SRAM for the S100 bus, but the idea is the same.) Compare that today with being able to get a 64GB micro SD for US $24.99, compared to the US $149.00 memory board which is equivalent to US $275.37 in today's money. ie for the same price of the old 64KB board, you can get 704GB of memory today, 11,264 times as many bytes of memory, or 1,126,399% more, (if I did that math right). Technology has definitely advanced. If only humanity had advanced as far. Cheers and Regards -
No one was asking you to upload yours here, but rather to submit it to VirusTotal if you were concerned that it had any malware in it. Cheers and Regards

No one will ever make a "perfect" SP that will satisfy everyone. There will always be just as many folks that complain that there is not enough in it as those who complain that there is too much. By all means make comments, suggestions and express your opinions, but please don't criticize the author for his decisions. It just ends up making you look bad. Cheers and Regards
-
Two advantages to the SP approach vs the update pack is that this can be applied to either an installed running system or to an install medium, whichever you prefer, and it definitely takes less time to install a SP compared to applying all of the updates one at a time, even if you used an automated method to do so. Cheers and Regards

"True (and not just relative) PC security"? As you say, it all depends on security from whom. From a determined enough hacker with enough resources, I don't think there is any true total security. I think it is always relative. But assuming you are an ordinary user and have not done something to make yourself a target of such a hacker or organization, then I believe that in most cases a good router, a decent and updated software firewall, an up to date anti-virus / anti-malware package, and most importantly good common sense should protect you at least 99.9999% of the time. (And yes, I pulled that number out of my ... ear.) I don't know that using a separate computer provides that much more security, but what it does do is take that job out of your main computer, assuming that was what used to be handling the job, so I would think you should get less of a performance hit and better system response as a result. Cheers and Regards

I'm not sure if what you are finding is the same as what was discussed above in post #707, but if it is it should be fixed in the next release, currently scheduled in about a week as you can read in the few posts above yours. So now that you have reported, sit back, relax and wait patiently for bigmuscle to take care of some personal matters before he releases the next installment. Cheers and Regards

How to figure out what device that is?
bphlpt replied to aofarrell2's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Easiest way I've found is to toggle the "WYSIWYG/BBCode" button, which is the little button on the top left of the edit box directly above the "B", ie Bold, button. When in BBCode mode it exposes the BBCode version of the post which is essentially just text which is sometimes easier to manipulate. Takes practice, but is handy at times. One thing to note is that when you toggle back to WYSIWYG mode it will delete some of the trailing spaces, so be aware. Cheers and Regards -
Win XP past Apr 2014... (was: Will XP be supported until 2019?)
bphlpt replied to steveothehighlander's topic in Windows XP
Saw this over in the Windows 8 Deeper Impressions thread and just had to pass it along here. Which, as I understand it, is another way of saying that, in this case, approximately one-third of the vulnerabilities of the Windows 8.x OS for 2013 is probably attributed to a single program that until Windows 8 was an external program, and is still in a way an external program since "Microsoft is not directly responsible for the Flash code". And for older OS, updates for that external program will continue to come directly from Adobe regardless of which older OS you happen to be running, even if you are running an "unsupported" XP. Also, the vast majority of the vulnerabilities for all OS are attributed to programs other than the OS, and are constant across all OS. The OS is only "responsible" for less than 10%. And since the OS can be "shielded" by means of routers, firewalls, anti-virus and other anti-malware software, and user attention to what the heck they are doing, then the choice of OS, from a security perspective, becomes more and more a moot point. At least in my opinion. Cheers and Regards -
2014 new ICANN regulation can nuke a site
bphlpt replied to CharlotteTheHarlot's topic in Site & Forum Issues
I would assume that as the number of websites have exploded, they figure that any website that is no longer valid, (in their eyes that apparently means one whose contact info is no longer valid), is eligible to be reused and resold to someone else. But that is just my interpretation. Cheers and Regards -
Neither. They just didn't work. The first one had "This" appended to the end of it, and the second had ")" appended. Both caused the respective link to not function when clicked. In the future, if you want to see exactly what is going on with your post before you post it, you can toggle the edit box "WYSIWYG" mode, (which is the little button in the top left of the edit box directly above the "B", ie "Bold", button), which exposes the BBCode equivalent commands. Since the post is essentially just text at that point, it is also sometimes easier to perform certain edits at that stage. It takes practice, but it is sometimes handy. Cheers and Regards

Windows defender or Microsoft security Essentials
bphlpt replied to Flasche's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
You should only have ONE software firewall and only ONE real time AV active at any time. It is perfectly OK to have as many on demand AV programs available as you want. I would take the same approach for anti-spyware apps in order to minimize the likelihood of possible conflicts and for performance reasons. It just makes sense to minimize the number of active processes you have running at any given time, but have as many as you want available for on demand use. Depending on the AV you choose to use, some of them have anti-spyware functions built it as well. So yes, as I understand it, Avast and Essentials would/could conflict, and I think you should only run one. Personally, I think that "upgrade to Essentials" is a misnomer, and you might be better off with another choice, but then I tend to not trust any of MS's security "solutions". Cheers and Regards -
