  1. Mine too. Now, lots of things aren't working right on IE8 anymore. Sometimes, spoofing IE9 may help... mostly, however, not anymore. Nowadays I use IE8 solely for visiting the MS Update site and the MS Update Catalog. For any other web activity I use FF 44.0, or Pale Moon (Atom/XP) 26.0.3, or the latest Chrome, when all else fails. IE8 is growing unusable by the day, I'm sorry to say...
  2. No way! Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 3 (SP3), Extended Support ended on Jan. 12, 2016... it was the very last MS product which support was keeping them creating IE6 updates. There must have been a party at Redmond on that day, for the wake o IE6!
  3. You may get the v11 update, now that you know the KB, from the MS Update Catalog... Search for "2012" or perhaps "Server", then sort by "latest first", by clicking on the release date column header. Try it, and let me know.
  4. And I guess you're covered till Jan 10, 2023 !!!
  5. As predicted, KB3134814 came out in just two versions: IE7 and IE8. So, as of today, IE6 has actrualy become truly EoS. In total, this Patch Tuesday brought 11 patches, with no reported issues. BTW, Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS) SP3, Extended Support will end on April 12, 2016... That should be the date the last files intended for IE7 may be released. After that, it too becomes EoS.
  6. If GNU tools are OK, why not include wget and use it to download the others?
  7. Done! And now that I know who you are, welcome to MSFN!
  8. @Nomen: yes, but he's using both RLoew's RAM Limitation Patch and SATA Patch, which is against your principles, IIRR.
  9. The 1st post has been updated again! Out-of-band (or more exactly: one day early) "Windows Update Client for Windows x and Windows Server 20xx R2: February 2016" update pair added to the list. BTW, did I miss the "Windows Update Client for Windows x and Windows Server 20xx R2: January 2016" update pair, or did MS really skip the Jan instance of it? Are they really getting sloppy even at conning the sheeple?
  10. I downloaded the one from the Gigabyte site, it says it's suppose to be for Windows 98, but it will not install and I can't seem to extract the inf file for it. But it's not a big deal since like I said, I'm using wireless since I don't want to run a wire to my bedroom. IIRR, it should be possible to harness the DOS driver for the Gb LAN (and there *ought to be* at least one such driver). I don't have experience with making such a setup work, but Dave-H did it recently with his current board, and I'm sure he'll chime in as soon as he sees this. If not, please do PM him about it.
  11. Well, actually, anyway, neither carry any goods, at the end of the day...
  12. Pale moon 26.0.3 Atom-XP released. It just works! Just as v. 26.0.2, no patching whatsoever is needed.
  13. I consider it safe. Of course, I may be wrong, and YMMV, but that's always the case with updates, right?
  14. Neither have I, nor is there such a file in any of my XP machines.
  15. Sorry if I understated it... here you go: If "Version" is 2002, you have SP3, but if "Version" is 2014 , then you have SP4! However it'll still say "Service Pack 3" in order not to cause compatibility issues !!!
  16. Welcome to MSFN! With all due respect, why do you think anyone may know what are you talking about?
  17. 180x120 AND oeminfo.ini Yes. 180x120 maximum. Mine is 116x116x24 bpp, to ensure propper alignement. And resedit to remove the text "Manufactured and supported by:" in SYSDM.CPL Edit Dialog 101, then fix checksum (XP)... My oeminfo.ini: [General]Manufacturer=Computer:[Support Information]Line1=Line2=Line3=Line4=Line5=Line6=
  18. That's because the desktop environment is CDE. On unix, the look is fully dependent on the desktop environment alone.
  19. I installed by myself. It's a full FPP XP Professional x86. To get the bitmsp there, it's just a mater of putting a proper OEMLOGO.BMP into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 Here's the one I used. I made it myself. Size matters. OEMLOGO.BMP
  20. Well, those are the true choices, because they are truly different kernels, so the difference is where it matters. Of course, all accept GNU utilities and various desktop interfaces, like gnome, KDE and the other contemporary ones, like Xfce, and also good old CDE (it's been resurrected, and now is open!), for the old-fashioned. FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD are truly old timers, and really time-proven, too. Apparently, the most up-to-date representative of Illumos is OpenIndiana.
  21. Thanks Phil! That one is a must read!
  22. There are really 3 options... Linux, BSD (FreeBSD, OpenBSD or NetBSD) and maybe Illumos (former OpenSolaris). And ... well ... maybe ... Hackintosh ???
  23. Thank you! List updated!
  24. Right-click on "My Computer", select "Properties" and you'll get the "System Properties". Mine is XP SP3 (with the POSReady tweak) but without SP4. Yours should be diffetent. Please do note the "Version" date. Below is a screenshot of mine.
  25. Beyond Compare 3 does rock, for sure!
