  1. +1 Glad you've had success!
  2. Java. Opera 10.10 (is the last version that) can use the old-style Java plugin, while 10.63 cannot. And, AFAIK, nobody has yet been able to use the new-style Java plugin in 9x/ME, no matter what browser is used and regardless of KernelEx. But I may be wrong, and the situation may have changed. I installed 10.10 with Java and Flash and forgot about the problem. But I'm sure our fellow members who are Opera users will correct me if I've missed any significant new development in this matter.
  3. Does perchance your WPA2 passphrase contain spaces? That is the most common problem for Linux distros and WPA2 is they cannot handle spaces.
  4. I do hope so. If, as you say, the userbase falls to 25% (or even less, perhaps), it would be an elegant and cost effective way to shut down the sevice, while catering for the rights of legitimate owners. I think that'd make everybody happy.
  5. Create a double boot setup and install either Gentoo or Puppy. Google for them, read about both and select one. Both are quite good, either is a good choice for entering the Linux world. And both avoid the bloat most distros carry.
  6. So do I. Yet, I fear this will never happen... then again, I do believe MS'll keep the service going for a long time, if not for any other reason, at least because shutting it down when about half the users worldwide (at least) still use XP would be courting a huge propaganda disaster.
  7. Because you like it. Because it's fun. YMMV. Then again, it's not a matter of choosing, really. I use both, plus two small Linux distros, all in the same machine, and Grub4DOS to select among them which I'll boot at any given time.
  8. Those entries are there so the system, QFECheck, and whomeverelse may be interested may know the update state of the system. I use to add some more, for my own good bookkeeping. Removing them may do no harm, but what's the gain? < 1KiB shaved off the registry, even if you completely remove the whole QFE keys, including those that may already be there before the application of the service pack... I don't think it'd worth it. Of course, that's just my take on it. YMMV.

  10. OK. Well... Let's start again: Which Hard Drive exactly are you trying to fix, and what sympoms did it exhibit before you started trying to fix it?
  11. Try going to Safe Mode, then deleting all mice in the Device Manager from Safe Mode. After that, you'll have to use the keyboard to move around, so remember that <Ctrl> <Esc> opens the start menu. Then reboot and, from Normal Mode, reinstall the mouse once again. Good luck!
  12. "Did not!" "Did too!" "Did not!" "Did too!" ... Now, now, let it go, please, you two! All Win ME users are wholeheartedly welcome here.
  13. I think Lombroso's theory of the "born criminal" has something to do with it. He proposed it at the end of the 19th century, and it became hugely popular. It has been recognized as bogus science for a long time already, but remains strong in the popular imaginary.
  14. Sure. Of the scale like if today they'd stop the ability to install the DOS 6.0 that came out in 93. Are you trying to resurect a closed thread ? No, I'm genuinely interested to know. Do you think it'll become a problem for retail versions as time goes on after 2014? I doubt there'll be any problem. I wouldn't worry, were I you. BTW, do read this: The Life and Times of Windows XP
  15. Uh Athlon XP with 98 IS NOT POSSIBLE because, it would be so fast it would rip the space time continuum. lol it is possible I used it on an amd xp 2500 barton core. If U do it make sure it has the nforce 2 chipset on the motherboard as nividia supported 9x good with it Of course it,s possible. I run a Barton core Athlon XP-M 2800+, overclocked @2333 MHz (so, effectively, a 3400+, the max the core supports without getting unstable), with a VIA KT600/VT8237, and have been doing so stably for over 5 years, already. Moreover if you had taken the time to read this list here, you'd be aware I'm far from using the fastest CPU in stable use with 9x/ME. Forget the RAM amounts and look just at the CPU and Motherboard lines.

  17. Wow, that was really swift! Thanks a whole lot! You do rock!
  18. @WildBill: I'm fully aware your plate's got more chestnuts than it's feasible for you to chew for a long time. However, I cannot resist asking you to add a setting to control the font size of the disassembly in your great PE Tool for Creating Patches. I use 1024 x 768, so the disassembled code gets too big and I have to keep scrolling it horizontally to be able to read. Sorry for bothering, but now that I'm begining to be able to actually do something with that tool, it would be a great help. And, once more, thanks for sharing that tool: it's really great!
  19. Athlon XPs, especially the Bartons, are very good with 9x/ME also.
  20. +1 RLoew's patch fixes the size issue. The modified CDFS to show wavs is outdated, and generally less useful.
  21. No it has not. Maximus-Decim did once include the WDMSTUB.SYS in NUSB 3.1, IIRR, but then he removed it. I can discuss the operation of USB20DRV in more detail, but fact is that if one installs NUSB 3.5, then adds just the files from USB20DRV.EXE manually, and then modifies the USBSTOR.INF to say <HKR,,NTMPDriver,,"wdmstub.sys,USBSTOR.SYS>, it'll work all right. The registry modifications that USB20DRV.EXE makes are not really needed and the USBHUB20.SYS it includes is required just for VIA chipsets... for all others, the one in NUSB3.5 is newer and better. In short, I'd just add USBEHCI.SYS, USBPORT.SYS and WDMSTUB.SYS from USB20DRV and modify the USBSTOR.INF, and that should be enough.
  22. Yes! Upload to megaupload, uploaded.to, qshare.com, or any other such file repository, and post the download link for your file it'll give you.
