So what's going on with this ripken, if you don't mind us asking.

If you have Norton/Symantec installed and it has a firewall, uninstall it and run SymNRT. After that run Dial-a-fix and you should be able to access SSL websites.
-
Start > Run > eventvwr.msc Check System for any errors and paste them here.

Yeah right now the only version of the Service Pack available to the public is 3264. v3300 is not yet available to the public. Hopefully SP3 will be released this upcoming Tuesday, but it might not be out till mid-March.

MarkJohnson - HiJackThisLog #1
Tarun replied to MarkJohnson's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Mark, You log looks clean though you mentioned having SmitFraud. You may want to run Smitfraud Fix to be sure you got everything removed. As for your sound, try plugging in some headphones directly into the computer and see if you have sound (be sure to check your volume controls). If you still have no audio, try unplugging your speakers completely from the system and then turn off your system and unplug it from the wall. Leave it this way for about 30 minutes. The best time to do this is before you go to sleep at night or if you have to go out for while during the day. It's possible your speakers may have died. Your Java needs to be updated so be sure to get the latest JRE from Sun. Generated by Tarun of Lunarsoft's HijackThis Converter v0.53 Beta. Even some versions of Linux can work with NTFS. Majority is read only, but some now can do read/write.
-
I honestly have no idea why you would want to run Windows XP as FAT32. You get much more speed, stability, security and much more running as NTFS. A SATA-II drive running FAT32 will not see anywhere near the true performance gains you receive from SATA-II. Just do a quick Start > Run > cmd and then convert C: /fs:ntfs and you'll be amazed at the improvements.
-
I'd use NTFS as well. I even convert my flash drives to NTFS. http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm

Not sure which techs you're talking to but I've frequently seen USB ports that have been damaged, firewire ports, even headphone jacks and other ports on notebooks.

Give Dial-a-fix a try and be sure to use the Tools section to repair your defrag.

Absorbing any form of shock or any other form of blunt/rough trauma is what I would believe it means.

What are all of the options? I've seen RJ45, RJ11 and USB.

Sounds like you removed something you actually need when you removed components with nLite. You should backup your data, format and reinstall with your original Windows cd. -

I personally have not used AVG AntiVirus for anything as I prefer Avast (though I don't use an antivirus) Have you checked the AVG website for any compatibility updates? -

I've researched into the antivirus and read complaints on their forums as well. The best bet for freeware antivirus is avast. -

I'd say go for Process Explorer by Sysinternals. Process Explorer works on Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and 64-bit versions of Windows for x64 and IA64 processors, and Windows Vista. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...ssExplorer.mspx It also has an easy to use option to replace the Task Manager.
