Look's like CloudFlare nightmare soon may be over, Pale Moon community reach out to press and CloudFlare team apparently noticed they negative coverage in press: Moonchild wrote: The Register article title is hilarious: Cloudflare's bot bouncer blocks weirdo browsers We finally know what browsers we using - a weirdo browsers.4 points

Additionally, I filled my second post in this thread with some recommendations for YouTube Downloaders still working under Windows XP (and presumably under Windows Vista, too) and updated the content. Originally, I posted it in @roytam1's browser thread and created this thread short time later. Now, it is in the right place to find it quickly if necessary. Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points

Windows going down since abandoning original Longhorn, but windows 11 is "Nightmare on the wings of the night".3 points

Ah, that makes sense. Regarding contacting the dev(s), it is rather inconvenient to do that, to say the least... For contact, you have to use Google Docs (under Contact, there is an iframe containing this link). (I have done that, after I discovered they used my XP build without giving credit for it and/or linking to my fork). They should put the whole thing open source on GitHub. That would be convenient.2 points

... Going to: https://yd.3dyd.com/changelog/ and reading the details of v1.21: I get the distinct impression that yt-dlp is only being used for the initial discovery of available YT formats ; the actual stream downloading (including thumbnail) is delegated to/performed by curl (via "libcurl_openssl.dll") and the muxing delegated to the embedded, shared, ffmpeg module; for picture embedding to take place, either ffmpeg (if recent enough), atomicparsley (non-existent here) or yt-dlp's mutagen Python module needs to be invoked post stream (re-)mux; this is something (according to posted logs) that's not taking place right now; perhaps if the dev was made aware, (s)he could code the app accordingly... FWIW, these frontends are just being coded for the average Windows user, most of the time oblivious to the existence of the Windows Command Prompt and the way CLI apps work; trust me, I get despaired from countless GitHub issue reports, where the OP cites that "the .EXE is broken", because it only blinks and closes upon double-clicking it ...2 points

Sure, just add a APPX dispaly name to the RemoveAPPX section. Wildcards like ? and * are allow, too.2 points

It was exactly the same until win32ss shared the code with him so he could continue, otherwise Thorium was stuck at the last officially supported 109 for years. That tells us the guy can only move forward with someone else's code.2 points

The last Thorium update for Windows XP was in June 2024. That was almost 9 months ago. Has the Thorium Legacy project been cancelled?2 points

Great news about 3D Youtube Downloader 3D Youtube Downloader has been updated to the version 1.22.2. Starting with this version or one before, this downloader now uses the awesome yt-dlp provided by @nicolaasjan. Unfortunately, they forgot to add some credits to him and a link to his GitHub page. That is a no-go and has of course to be corrected as soon as possible. Because the same applies as always: Honor to whom honor is due. At this point, I say once again thanks to @nicolaasjan! You know what, you're absoluteness right! Despite being on Millennium for a long time, I paid very little attention to the primitive operating systems before Vista, those were designed for office slaves to serve as a calculator. Son, we have different priorities in life, it's very obvious. For me, life is all about fun and entertainment, so I chose the only one really high quality media capable OS - Vista. Windows 7/8 took a huge step back in the quality, and Windows 11 is the icon of primitivism.2 points
-
Oh, I forgot to answer to the main question, The actual reason Windows 11 had failed is because @D.Draker purchased zero licences, whereas with Vista he bought dozens and dozens, maybe hundreds. Literally every PC I bought had Vista, and if we count the numerous gifts I made during that times, countless girlfriends were gifted with Vista computers, even my mother and father!2 points

Then there was a short break for Vista, looks like the engineers finally heard the complaints about the terrible XP and took it into the account, Yet they still somehow managed to insert the non-changeable white folders background ugliness into Vista. Then the terrible, slow, buggy, spying and bloated Windows 7 came out, and the real horror began, so Win 11 is the successor of 7, not Longhorn, therefore, I agree with @Rod Steel!2 points
-
It all went downhill with the fisher price XP, I can't forget the terrible quality of everything in XP, it resampled all audio to the miserable 48Khz! Oh, and take the OS sound for example, LOUD bangs of system notifications made for deaf people. XP had acid icons and the UI made for BLIND people. Windows 11 reminds me of the acid XP colours,2 points

I overlooked that... But when I inserted `--embed-thumbnail` (without quotes), first it seemed to work, but when I opened the downloaded audio file with foobar2000, no thumbnail was present. Keyword is "suggested". VistaLover would have to stop back in and tell us if he is or is not enabling/disabling. Until then, we should not be "guessing" VistaLover's configuration. As a test, we could revert the flag and add this polyfill. At the very least rule out one of the flag features. https://glitch.com/edit/#!/close-watcher-demo?path=polyfill.js1 point
-
@Dave-H, it doesn't explain why it worked for VistaLover, btw VistaLover, even suggested to keep them ON, enable those flags.1 point

And what about that? Did you already try to insert your custom argument there? You can get there by clicking on Options in the main window.1 point

Thank you for the correction, AstroSkipper: my apologies, as you appear to be entirely right. I do distinctly remember being offered a version 7.0.0.10 or similar late last year, but whether this did exist and was "pulled", or whether I am somehow confusing DM with another program I can't say. Incidentally, although Microsoft now only recommends using its web email with Edge, Chrome and Firefox in Windows, I have tried experimenting with other browsers. It works very well with SR Iron in Windows 10. I also tried Pale Moon, and although it was rejected, I did mange to gain access through it by going through the cumbersome validation procedure. I had hoped to do this with MyPal in XP, but found PM so slow in comparison to Iron that I was discouraged. Needless to say, I was unable to validate Outlook Express.1 point

https://github.com/Alex313031/thorium-legacy/issues/124 ... wrote the author on Aug 3rd, 2024... Similar issues weren't even replied to by the author: https://github.com/Alex313031/thorium-legacy/issues/115 https://github.com/Alex313031/thorium-legacy/issues/105 The source repo showed some further activity as recent as Nov 13th, 2024, https://github.com/Alex313031/thorium-legacy/commits/main/ but it seems that's where things got stuck... Currently, only Thorium for Linux/Win10+ is still being developed and binaries publicly released, so I'd assume Thorium Legacy is, in practice, "frozen" ...1 point

You mean Alexa, not relevant 'cause I always used Opera. And I skipped XP. (used only a brief time), and it was a terrible experience, similar to 11. But my grandmother, born in the very beginning of the 20th century, liked it. 1912-1913 smth, I don''t already remember. I wonder what would she tell about 11!?!??!1 point

@tinman2000 If you had read the last posts of this thread carefully, you would have noticed that Cloudflare does not work in Mypal 68 at the moment. No solutions, no suggestions. Maybe, one of the next Mypal 68 releases will successfully run these superfluous challenges. But I wouldn't count on that. Thanks to Cloudflare!1 point

I have a home theatre, 7 speakers, huge, neighbours in the nearest houses tremble in fear when I watch a film. It runs off its own OS. Not sure if 11 can be installed there, I don't want it anyways.1 point

Honestly, I think it's over and over exaggerated. I still use a videocard which will soon be about your age (Ttitan X). And I remember there was a million of articles saying nVidia does something to the cards to plan the "obsolescence". Yet it works. I think it even still gets new drivers! Not for Vista, but 10 or 11, alas.1 point

Correct. The reference contact person is Weolar and the builds are provided by him to the companies who purchase the extended support afaik. I'm very very very lucky to be one of the people that receives those builds, but of course they're private and I cannot share them, however they do have some bugs. Anyway, they run just fine on Windows XP SP3 x86 without the need to use One Core API.1 point
-
It's a Long Term Support XP Compatible Chromium build that he receives. Unfortunately, no download link to it, and no access to the source. Yes, it requires One-Core-API.1 point

That is rather splitting hairs. You start the tool with the default ini file and it generates the address 0x62a00000 for chrome.dll which is logged by libase in its ini file. Seen in this way, the tool has "chosen" it itself. No interaction by the user. But, your further investigation is not uninteresting. I did not examine the calculation of libase's generated base address more deeply. I would do that only if something went wrong.1 point
-
Just to clarify it! These freezes I had did not come regularly, and completely unexpectedly. I will continue to monitor this at the address 0x62a00000 chosen by libase for chrome.dll. When time is available, I will try your address 0x10010000 by using Rebase.1 point
