  1. LOL, I wrote about it a month ago. Unfortunately, my 2009 PC is beginning to feel exhausted. Starting Thorium/Supermium (or any other Chrome) newer than 122 feels heavy.

  2. If you had read my post carefully, you would have noticed that I didn't say that this behaviour seems to be "unique" to my referenced Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP. I also used Comodo Firewall in the past. It was and is certainly still a good firewall but Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP did all I needed better in a more comfortable way and very low on consuming resources. It's as simple as that. BTW, I will write an article about the standalone Comodo Firewall soon. But testing it in these days must be left to others, as I have already explained in one of my last posts.

  3. One reason I am using Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP is that this firewall not only blocks incoming and outgoing connections from programmes, but also from Microsoft's operating system components. This firewall simply blocks everything that the user wants blocked. I used the Avast Premier 2018 firewall myself for a long time, but it kept letting through connections that I hadn't authorised. This prompted me to disable it completely, i.e. not install it in the first place, and replace it with Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP. I really don't know why I had these issues with the Avast Premier 2018 firewall. However, I think that firewalls which come with Internet Security packages are not that powerful as single, specialised ones. And Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP is very specialised and mighty, especially when it comes to the creation of own rules and zones. Just my opinion based on my experiences I made in the past.

  4. One thing seems to be clear. It's better to have blocked incoming connections, even if suspicious, than outgoing ones. The latter would mean your computer is compromised by malware or other intruders.

  5. I forgot to ask whether your Windows XP computer is part of a network and still other devices are connected to it? Does your router keep logs of all connections?

  6. Did you or did you not self-sign the driver (sys) , like I wrote in my tutorial ? I also had all sorts of weirdness until I tried out this method.

  7. I tried 398.11 with its original CPL ver. 8.1.940.0, it also froze.

  8. @Tihiy, I am not sure if this a bug or by design. If I shift-right-click on a taskbar button, Run as different user is not visible. I can get there by first right-clicking icon, then on the context menu do shift-right-click. In your stable version it appears with just the usual shift-right-click on the taskbar button\icon.

  9. The only issue I've been having with StartAllBack is the left area of the TaskBar increasing in size and pushing the contents on the right farther to the right. Other than that, I think this is a life saver, and much more useful than StartIsBack or Stardock's Start11. Being able to have multiple rows in the TaskBar is the most important feature to me.

  10. No, it was a friendly reminder to follow the news on the site.

  11. You are correct, it has been removed from .1252, explorer.exe is significantly reduced in size. I suggest using T2, unless you need autohide it's very stable and almost feature complete. Autohide is now supported.

  12. It seems to me that the taskbar has now been ripped from Dev, since today's 26120-1252 doesn't seem to allow having the classic taskbar toggled on. If I'm out to lunch, someone correct me. Using the latest SaB. For now, I'll wait to hear what's up and, I guess, look into whether Alpha 2 is stable enough to use going forward.

  13. So does the very very old version of Comodo Firewall that I've suggested. So much so, to me at least, that I am SHOCKED if not ALL firewalls behave in this manner (as your post implies this behavior seems to be "unique" to your referenced W 10 F C P XP).

  14. Ok. In any case, it was an incoming connection at the local port 3389 and blocked by Avast. The corresponding service was disabled by you anyways. And Avast did its job. So, nothing bad could happen. Personally, I always disable all remote features from the very first. To use a properly working firewall which reports all blocked incoming and outgoing connections is mandatory and as we can see necessary and meaningful.

  15. Thanks for your confirmation in terms of the firewall! About Comodo Antivirus, we will see what other users report here.

  16. Any special setting in your hosts file? Local address 0.0.0.0 usually leads to nowhere. BTW, my condolences on the outcome of the sporting event.

  17. @genieautravail probably needs to update his post, then. https://msfn.org/board/topic/182219-comodo-firewall-last-win-xp-version/?do=findComment&comment=1194376

  18. I think the OP would want you to try uBlock Lite MV3 or Adguard and see if they do block all. I'll pass, I'm not trying adGuard on my PC due to the risks associated with the country it comes from. And regarding uBlock Lite, I simply see no need for it,

  19. 142 is actually good for chrome in the range of 99 - 106, something like that.

  20. From my humble 30 years experience with browsers, one's gotta try several versions released in the timeframe of about 3 months back and forth of the given browser version release.

  21. Wrong again, Moneypenny. (from Bond with T. Dalton) I've only assumed the site probably didn't know whether it should block that unknown version and let you in. I never wrote I had doubts it let you in, your "distinct impression" is better be called distinct overimagination. And be careful with your thoughts/wishes, some day may come true. The fact Chrome 86 works for points out to Client Hints engaging on Windows 10.

  23. "Taskbar2" is new StartAllBack (partially) recreated taskbar prototype. It's not a product and is for testing only. Task buttons: - Better: ungrouped icons are pixel-perfect if possible - Different: does not depend on immersive shell / shows faster - Different: no horizontal 1px padding; no drag&drop to pin to apps Thumbnails: - Better: can be rearranged with drag and drop - Different: list of windows overflows into multiple columns, not scrolling - Different: animation, Win7 design, Snap Groups / Window sharing / Toolbar design Alpha Milestone 1 limitations: - No multi-monitor taskbars - No perks (centered, segmented ex.) - Still totally depends on classic taskbar code Those to be researched later. Expect major degradations or never shipping at all. Please stay strictly on topic. Do regression testing (compare with existing classic taskbar) Judgment Day: http://startisback.com/T2.exe

  24. Yes, if have doubts, just make a backup.

  25. This is a fully legit question, I already wrote before, when it's impossible to make a hardware decode, it need s to fallback to software-only automatically. It doesn't happen with AV1, so it's a pure bug.

  26. Love the Terminator reference, although Back to the Future would have been appropriate too! So far my initial impression is nothing obvious looks broken. I'm going to run this alpha for a few days and I'll update if I run into any weird regressions. I have noticed that both old style deskbands and newer overlays like Networx work well! That's a big piece of functionality that keeps me wanting the old taskbar, so I'm glad to see that works. Update 5/27: I've been rocking T2 for a few days now and what is implemented works faithfully to the Win 10 TB. I see no major degradations or differences from 3.7.9 in my own usage patterns when doing a direct comparison running T2 on my Surface Laptop Studio 2 and 3.7.9 on my Windows VM I access with Parsec. This is a great first Alpha release. You are a brilliant engineer @Tihiy, thank you for working so hard to implement this functionality!!

  28. Maybe, I also have a feeling, my BIOS is watching me . Jokes aside, I can't update the default 32-bit Vista on that PC. While I absolutely can the 64-bit version. Weird, right ? The only way for me is to sign the drivers, doesn't matter whether the kernel installed or not.
    1 point
  29. 1 - You did not !??! Ho do you load the patched files then ? For me, is no way to load without the signing . I mean, I know you're a magician, but still... Is there a secret ? All of the commands are simply ignored in all cases on my PC. I went across plenty of articles saying this. 2 - Maybe we should try another driver then ? Somewhere between those two ? Say 385-388 smth. On the other hand, today I tried the modded 382.16 (Microsoft version) and it froze with the panel again, if I take the panel from 378.78 and install with 382 - freeze again, no panels - works fine!

  30. So how do you live without the ability to calbrate the colour settings !? Then you ought to try this 378.78 I modded, a good driver indeed.
