  2. Although the whole conversation has actually become off-topic, I do not agree with your statement "Only if you don't tweak and optimize!". You can't redesign the whole OS. Tweaking and optimizing has nothing to do with the fact that the basic design of Windows 10, and more worse Windows 11, is crap. And I am not interested in modifying, tweaking and optimizing such crap. End of story.

  3. Look at 1.42.X. Fast, overall. 1.26 seems to allow some ads to slip through.

  4. Not to mention, classic UBO allows users to add custom filter rules by clicking on web page elements, which is great, does Ublock Lite allow it?
    2 points
  5. Why would I need to over-complicate my life with DNS level stuff? Isn't this product aimed at ordinary users? Hence the name "Lite". It doesn't look light.
    2 points
  6. Ublock Origin Lite is disappointing since I can't add my own custom filters. Not to mention that Fanboy Annoyance is now split into multiple smaller lists under the umbrella of EasyList. I don't recommend this product,

  7. You accused me of being "wrong" without proof, without providing any insight on why it works on Windows 10 with an old UA, or even the original one, like in the case with the member @66cats. https://msfn.org/board/topic/182304-extreme-explorer-360-chromium-78-86-general-discussion/?do=findComment&comment=1268986 And now you write "it seems you are seeking strife where none exists." Are you sure you didn't confuse me someone else? I'd like to get to the bottom of why it works on 10, but not XP, which is the topic. Got any problem with that? Ignore, then. My theory is the fingerprint the browser makes. Client Hints is one of the most possible culprits.
    2 points
  8. That's not what I meant, and you perfectly know it. I meant you spoofed to v.77 from a Windows 10 machine.
    2 points
  9. I wouldn't rely only on one site to test that "feature". Client Hints have been main stream since as early as January 2020. Before saying I'm "wrong", how then you'd explain the site works perfectly fine on Windows 10 and old UA?
    2 points
  10. Of course it would load on v.77 under Windows 10, the OS you've been running for a couple of years instead of XP.

  11. http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/esdi_506.zip Patches for ESDI_506.PDR from Windows 98SE [98SE] / RLoew's Terabyte Plus Pack 2.1 [TBP2.1]. Fixes: 1. [TBP2.1 - BigHDD] Handles drives with LBA48 support using algorithm from Windows NT: LBA48 commands are only used for drives that really need them, i.e. >= 128GiB, for drives < 128GiB LBA28 is used. Needed as work-around the rare situation of badly functioning hardware that reports support for LBA48 commands, but in reality does not process them. 2. [TBP2.1 - SATA] Interrupt handler: - Based on code from RLoew's TBP3.0. - For dedicated interrupts (Legacy ATA controllers) the code is completely identical in behavior to the original one (no unnecessary access to ports). - DMA error flag is preserved, only the Interrupt flag is reset. 3. [TBP2.1 - SATA] Data synchronization with BIOS: - LBA usage is enabled for drives with LBA support without any additional checks, drives without LBA use the old (full) algorithm - rollback to PIO if DMA fails 4. [98SE] Driver retrieves shared interrupt flag not from the CONFIGMG shared interrupt flag, but from the level/front interrupt flag. The CONFIGMG incorrectly changes the shared interrupt flag for multi-function devices (which are the vast majority of standard PCI ATA controllers). 5. [98SE] Fixed minor bug of non-saving register with the value of error of command execution for drives with removable media and media status notification enabled. 6. [98SE] Changed drive characteristic flags for the default record. Additions: 1. [98SE] Added IOR_IDE_PASS_THROUGH request processing for ATAPI devices. Also this request is correctly processed for ATA devices with sector size other than 512 bytes. Allows you to execute drive identification commands and SMART commands for such drives. It is recommended to use together with updated SMARTVSD.VXD for full functionality. Fixes 2 - 6 and Addition 1 are non-specific to TBP2.1. Corollary projects updated accordingly: https://github.com/LordOfMice/Tools/blob/master/atanames.zip - Right names of ATA drives plus version of device firmware in Device Manager for Windows 9x/ME http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/smartvsd.zip Patches for SMARTVSD.VXD - works for any combination of ATA channels and devices on these channels and more

  16. That was the actual call. I need information especially regarding Comodo Antivirus in terms of its definition updates. Does Comodo Antivirus 12.0.0.6818 or another XP-compatible version that I may not yet have on my radar still receive definition updates on a regular base in these days?

  17. Exactly! When I use Windows 10, I am constantly looking for where a certain function has been hidden again. For me, using Windows 10 means that I have to swear all the time. Windows XP, on the other hand, is pure relaxation. I'm happy to accept that some things can't be done.

  18. This firewall is a special version for Windows XP. Formerly, it was called Vista Firewall Control, then Windows 7 Firewall Control and so on. That doesn't mean anything. Technically, I am running a pure Windows XP equipped with a lot of software. And the more recent OSes are crappy because the admin is no longer an admin. The admin is Microsoft in more recent Windows OSes, especially starting with Windows 8. And in the end, you can't do much about it. Apart from that, you are bombarded with so much junk that you lose all sense of humor.

  19. If you know me a little, you know that I won't ditch anything. But one thing is clear. My "beloved", ancient Windows XP machine can do most of the tasks I want it to do. Thus, I do not have to use the crappy more recent Windows versions that often. Apart from that, I'm also an Android enthusiast. And I am Linux user, too. So I dance at all weddings.

  20. @Tripredacus, it's a new spammer Dixel wrote about, not related to the earlier banned figure. There's an influx of similar clones with generic names and early 2000s pics, with spam details in the bio, or "about me", That particular one promotes a social or dating app.

  21. I'm not sure how to reply here, but I'll try to be thorough. This has been happening since I bought StartAllBack since a few months ago. So I'm assuming all versions before and including 3.7.11. After changing from EP (this was 2-3 months ago) to StartAllBack I've been having a singular issue. To provide some context I run physically two monitors, left is 1920x1080@100% display scaling (main monitor) with the taskbar on the right side and right from it 3840x2160@200% display scaling (secondary monitor). Now I use DisplayPort on both of the monitors, so turning one off makes the literal display signal disappear. Keeping this in mind if I have both the monitors turned off, and turn the secondary 4K 200% monitor on first, the taskbar will change size by becoming smaller by width. I usually leave the PC on, but without sleep. So only the monitors are off. Basically, while both monitors are off, if I accidentally turn on the 4K monitor (so it gets the signal first) before the 1080p the Windows right side taskbar loses some width. I usually have it as 62px, but it becomes smaller than this if I accidentally turn on the 4K (200% DPI) secondary monitor before the first 100% DPI scaling one. I apologize for the weird explanation, but I am willing to provide any and all logs that are required. This program is perfect in all ways besides this!

  22. But Vista has known troubles with Haswell CPU family. Do you have delays upon boot?

  23. @genieautravail BTW, I tested the SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition last night. The installation worked without any problems. Also the update of the programme to version 10.0.1266 and the update of the signatures database. Additionally, I carried out a function check. Everything ran as it should. TBH, I have no idea what's going on in your Windows XP system. But one thing is clear. Your hasty conclusions are simply wrong. And this is unfortunately not the first time.

  24. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition works absolutely fine here. No issues. No DLL problems. I can access all features. I think your system is the causer. You can alternatively try the installer version 10.0.1250 as this version was the one before incompatibilities with the programme appeared the first time. BTW, I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware since 2007 without any serious issues. So, please check your system first before posting issues one can't confirm!

  26. Sorry, no clue! I had been using Comodo programmes only a short time in the past. Maybe, some others here can say more about the different versions of Comodo. I used the Comodo Firewall for the longest time (some months). But all that is long time ago. So, here is my next call to all users of Comodo under Windows XP. This thread needs information about Comodo Antivirus, Comodo Internet Security and Comodo Firewall. Especially users running Windows XP in a VM or users running VMs in general might test some of the last compatible versions and report here. That would be very helpful as I cannot test all software by myself. And here is what I know about the last compatible versions which had been running error-free: Comodo Antivirus 12.0.0.6818 Comodo Internet Security 12.0.0.6818 Comodo Firewall 8.4.0.5165 Now, we need confirmations and information by testing these versions and maybe others.

  28. I'm divided on how I feel about that. I like the idea of extending a browser that still works the way I like, however some sites I use for health benefits through work do not work on ESR 115, even when spoofing a user agent. Well, I guess we'll see.

  30. 1- Your copy of Vista must be 64-bit, as well as having all the updates up to April 2017 + kb4474419 + kb4493730, plus the latest version of the extended kernel. 2- Have a copy of Office 2016 64-bit handy (The RTM version of July 2015 is needed, since it has an MSI installer like Office 2013, since the following versions use the current installer, which does not work at the moment) 3- Copy to the desktop in a new folder the root of your copy of Office 2016 4- Copy the ProPlus.WW.en-US folder to the desktop (the name may vary due to the language/edition of the copy), this is important since the Office installer detects the edited files and the installer of this folder needs to be edited. 5- In the folder copied to the desktop open ProPlus.WW.msi with Orca, go to InstallExecuteSequence and remove AbortMsi (it blocks the installation outside of setup.exe that verifies the files), then in Components change all Conditional VersionNT >= 601 by VersionNT >= 600. 6- Replace gdiplus.dll with the one from Windows 7, this is the path in the system: c:\windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.6002.19749_none_56a723b1b598503f\GDIPLUS.DLL 7- In group policies of the local machine, it prohibits rollback (very important) 8- Create an osver.ini file with the following settings (required at all times when installing Office 2016): [global] Enabled=1 MajorVersion=6 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 8- Open ProPlus.WW.msi and after installation the Office 2016 suite should appear in the start menu, but it is not enough! 9- Go back to group policies and disable rollback, but keep osver.ini 10- In the root folder of Office 2016 the only change we will make is to delete the update or updates folder, they cause bugs when installed 11- Open the setup.exe of the normal Office 2016 installer and customize it to your liking (it should install successfully, if an error appears, reboot the system) 12- Replace outlook.exe with this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B2PcraGfa0p3yBIGTF19-04vI0dwbFMh/view?usp=drive_link. To avoid missing dependencies. 13- The programs of the Office 2016 suite will need to be detected at all times as Windows 7 or an annoying Windows Installer dialog will appear configuring each time the program starts: [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\EXCEL.EXE] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\MSACCESS.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\MSPUB.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\ONENOTE.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\OUTLOOK.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\POWERPNT.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600 [C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\WINWORD.exe] Enabled=1 Win7SuperVerFix=1 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=7600

  31. I am about to change my mind about Avast Antivirus 2015, after some more experimenting. Avast Antivirus 2015 - SSE-only files The "offline" installer of Avast Antivirus 2015 (both Free and Premier) does NOT contain all required components for installing under SSE-only. During the "offline" installation under SSE-only the installer downloads 2 files, ais_gen_gui_nosse2-7e5.vpx and ais_gen_gui_nosse2_cef-7cc.vpx. If there is no internet connection, e.g. the Ethernet cable is pulled out from the computer during the installation, the "offline" installation under SSE-only will terminate with the msg "There was an error while installing the product" -> Restart computer, with Avast Antivirus 2015 NOT being installed. This has two consequences for installing Avast Antivirus 2015 the regular way under SSE-only: 1) You must have an online connection during the installation, during which Avast Antivirus 2015 constantly transmits who-knows-what to who-knows-where. I had to keep clicking continuously on firewall messages permitting outbound connections for completing the installation OK.. 2) Whenever Avast decides to remove these 2 files from their server, Avast Antivirus 2015 canNOT be installed anymore under SSE-only and the installer becomes useless trash. The compatibility with SSE-only is nowadays the only reason for installing old Avast Antivirus 2015. There exists, however, a little trick to install Avast Antivirus 2015 completely offline under SSE-only. STEP 1: Create a partition backup, Then make a 1st installation with the computer online + permit individually all outbound connections. After the installer msg window finishes displaying "Downloading ..." of the 2nd file, wait with the granting of firewall permissions. Immediately copy the 2 downloaded files ais_gen_gui_nosse2-7e5.vpx and ais_gen_gui_nosse2_cef-7cc.vpx from the \Temp\ folder of the installer to another folder on a different partition etc. Then restore the partition backup. This STEP 1 needs to be done only once, for obtaining the 2 rare files required by the installer under SSE-only. STEP 2: Disconnect the internet connection, e.g. the Ethernet cable, then re-install Avast Antivirus 2015. When the window "Question: You are installing an old version of Avast!" is displayed, the installer has finished extracting the installation source. $$$ -> copy these 2 files into the temp folder created by the installer, so that the installer will not attempt to download the missing files from the server. Avast Antivirus 2015 will then install OK, without attempting to download the 2 files. The trick with manually copying these 2 files into the \Temp\ folder during the installation also results in a software where the firewall can automatically disable outgoing connection attempts, no constant clicking when the computer is online. The nuisance part of Avast Antivirus 2015 seems to be set during the online connection of the installer With this installation trick Avast Antivirus 2015 may have become a useful tool under WinXP with SSE-only, especially for retro-computing enthusiasts who do not have my ancient version of Kaspersky.

  32. I have my doubts about the German BSI. Their current head Claudia Plattner is a red-green political appointee, who seems to consider US interests https://www.danisch.de/blog/2023/07/07/die-seltsame-it-sicherheitsexpertise-der-neuen-bsi-chefin-claudia-plattner/ Why did she go to Tulane, couldn't she get admitted to a top university like MIT? She is not listed in the US wikipedia, only in the German wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_Plattner "BSI's predecessor was the cryptographic department of Germany's foreign intelligence agency (BND)" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Office_for_Information_Security Relying on BSI for anti-virus software recommendations?

  34. Love the Terminator reference, although Back to the Future would have been appropriate too! So far my initial impression is nothing obvious looks broken. I'm going to run this alpha for a few days and I'll update if I run into any weird regressions. I have noticed that both old style deskbands and newer overlays like Networx work well! That's a big piece of functionality that keeps me wanting the old taskbar, so I'm glad to see that works. Update 5/27: I've been rocking T2 for a few days now and what is implemented works faithfully to the Win 10 TB. I see no major degradations or differences from 3.7.9 in my own usage patterns when doing a direct comparison running T2 on my Surface Laptop Studio 2 and 3.7.9 on my Windows VM I access with Parsec. This is a great first Alpha release. You are a brilliant engineer @Tihiy, thank you for working so hard to implement this functionality!!
