Unfortunately, I'm getting the same, what about you? https://github.com/IDA-RE-things/Chrome-xp-api-adapter/issues/17#issuecomment-21852539463 points

What do you mean "maybe"? Western software is everywhere, and on the leading positions. "Maybe" is not the right word in this case. There's simply no alternative. I tried some software from Eastern Europe, including Avast, it was terrible. It's not only my opinion, it was a huge scandal with Avast. Regarding "freedom", written by you in CAPSLOCK, it's a very old KGB playbook, literally everyone is aware of it, it's when our foes use Western freedoms against our systems. I support the US Government decision to ban Kaspersky. I have another question, why did they allow it in the first place? It's more a rhetorical question now, but in any case, it points out to something fishy among the midst of US services, because it's always too obvious with Russia, what it will do and so on. I wish it was just humour! Nevertheless, thanks for the compliment!2 points

I enjoy your humor "The new restrictions on inbound sales of Kaspersky software, which will also bar downloads of software updates, resales and licensing of the product, kick in on Sept. 29, 100 days after publication, to give businesses time to find alternatives. " https://www.reuters.com/technology/biden-ban-us-sales-kaspersky-software-over-ties-russia-source-says-2024-06-20/ "The White House has made the ban official by banning the sale, resale, and licensing of any Kaspersky security products or services within the US or by US persons" https://uk.pcmag.com/antivirus/152911/us-expected-to-ban-kaspersky-antivirus-software-over-russian-ties If I remember right, Eugene Kaspersky went personally to Iran because of the US-Israeli Stuxnet virus, maybe that's why Kaspersky has so much negative headwind. "He [Eugene Kaspersky] hired the researcher that identified the Stuxnet worm, which is believed to be the first instance of state-sponsored cyberweapon... They [Kaspersky Lab] also exposed Equation Group, which developed advanced spyware for monitoring computer use and was believed to be affiliated with the National Security Agency in the U.S" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Kaspersky "Kaspersky Lab concluded that the sophisticated attack could only have been conducted with nation-state support. F-Secure's chief researcher Mikko Hyppönen, when asked if possible nation-state support were involved, agreed: "That's what it would look like, yes".... On 1 June 2012, an article in The New York Times reported that Stuxnet was part of a US and Israeli intelligence operation named Operation Olympic Games, devised by the NSA" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet If you want to be protected from Russian and Chinese government spying, maybe Western anti-virus software is a good choice. If you want to be protected from US government spying, maybe non-Western anti-virus software is a good choice. Or maybe use both Western and non-Western anti-virus software if you don't trust anybody In any case: Everybody should have the FREEDOM to use the virus-protection software of his choice.2 points

@NotHereToPlayGames, did a bit of digging regarding the slow startups/hang ups you get. By any chance, do you have Direct X9.0 A/B/C redist installed? EDIT. OS doesn't matter.2 points

I use Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2015 for offline scanning (still updated, ~260 MB download). https://support.kaspersky.com/utility Well, I scanned my registry for kasp and found 19 entries, most of them not related to the tool. Now hold your breath... I have McAfee Enterprise 8.8 installed (still working on XP) but disabled, found 1465 entries and will probably find hundreds more related to McAfee if I scan for network associates, nai, intel and trellix... NSA in disguise but I don't care. "You have no privacy. Get over it." — Scott McNealy, Sun Microsystems BTW, there's only one way to uninstall McAfee... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bKgf5PaBzyg1 point

Just tested with with some old 360Chrome 13.5, seems to work (gives me "We do not recognize your username and/or password. Please try again.").1 point

Haven't looket yet (liking Official Ungoogled v114 too much!), but this could be the nail in the coffin for my Ungoogled v114 I can (?) easily pull this API out of 360Chrome v22 (Chrome v119) and "ungoogle" it, but I'm not really sure all of the time and effort to release another 360Chrome version is where I want to be1 point

Working fine for me with Thorium and Supermium. Maybe you're blocking too many things in the useless name of "security, integrity and anonymity"... resistance is futile, you will be assimilated... lol... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/3/3e/Locutus.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20121114214028&path-prefix=en What about these, can you access them? https://europa.eu/youreurope/index.htm https://european-union.europa.eu/index_en1 point

Anyone know of a way to polyfill attribution-reporting ? This is the first encounter I have stumbled into where "new" browsers work but that Ungoogled Chromium v114 is "too old". The web site is the USPS's login (do not need an account to test) -- https://reg.usps.com/login?app=HOLDMAIL&appURL=https%3A%2F%2Fholdmail.usps.com%2Fholdmail%2F Just type in a RANDOM username and a RANDOM password and you'll see the "unrecognized feature: attribution-reporting" in the error console.1 point

I like it very much. I use mostly the same flags and settingsI reported in the supermium thread, now with your streamlined progwrp.dll, and the results are quite impressive:snappy pages, stable multiple tabs, good YT-GM. In xp, though I still can't enter official EU sites (even with vanilla settings -i.e., no flags/customized local state). For instance: https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/stronger-europe-world/global-gateway_en. I use a site to watch movies to learn second languages that used to work fine with all XP browsers, then only with chrome derivatives, then now only with thorium pure vanilla (although allowing for switches --user-data-dir=...\Chrome3 --no-first-run --no-default-browser-check . Overall, great, superior at the time to supermium. Thanks @IDA-RE-things1 point

I uninstall my ancient version of Kaspersky via normal WinXP Add-Remove, then use Kaspersky Removal Tool v1.0.365 (14Sep2012), then run an older privately built .reg file which deletes 3 registry keys. Not sure whether running the .reg file is necessary, but it doesn't hurt. This uninstall procedure has always worked OK with my ancient version of Kaspersky. For Win8 I have another privately build .reg file which deletes 4 registry keys. My feeling is that the stuff in the registry is related to license keys. Natalya Kasperskaya https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalya_Kaspersky was saying that they were in the business of selling license keys, not software, i.e. focused on making money, not on making spyware. 2011-2012 seems to have been a troubled period for the Kasperskys, with their divorce and the kidnapping of their son, major corporate changes, followed by the conviction of a key researcher for espionage for the US and continuous attacks by the US. Maybe because of all these troubles my ancient build of 2012 was overlooked and not set to EOL.1 point

Kaspersky will be prohibited to US persons in Germany (German Green Card holders, US companies), US law applies to them in Germany regardless of what German law says. In the UK, because of the special extradition arrangements between the US and the UK, some Kaspersky users may perhaps be arrested and extradited to the US, like Julian Assange (OT: FREEDOM. I am so happy for Julian Assange)1 point

Gruezi! [=Swiss-German for Greetings] Uninstall issues exist with many programs, it's hard to get rid of them. The only clean method to protect yourself is to create a partition backup before the installation of any software and to restore the pre-installation partition. I have not installed Kaspersky "protection" components. The use of old WinXP on an SSE-only computer may provide some protection, a lot of new malware etc seems to have higher system requirements I am currently posting from a 23-year-old Inspiron 7500 laptop, on which no anti-malware is installed at all. I even trust Roytam's Hongkongese New Moon 28 browser and NotHereToPlayGames's 360Chrome with online banking from this old laptop, without any anti-malware installed. Some old stuff is still useful. BTW, many programs leave "trash keys" in the registry, which may or may not be flags for something. When you use Registry Trash Keys Finder v3.9.2.0 (1Sep2013) or Registry Trash Keys Finder v3.9.4.0 (8Jan2017) you will be surprised to see how many hidden flags there are in your registry, and first of all may be Microsoft... Do you trust Microsoft? I also have my gripes about the Kaspersky Removal Tools. Not sure what Microsoft's removal tool of .NET Framework leaves behind Restoring a partition from a clean backup is still the best choice to get rid of unwanted software.1 point

Did you try disabling all (YouTube) scripts except the Youtube polymer engine fixes? I have observed that some scripts do not work properly together with it.1 point

Yes, MinWin focus on deleting files. It's unusual to delete complete folder and than want to keep it. In that case, use wildcard pattern: !\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\*1 point

@Multibooter The fact that your offline scanner could soon stop working should not worry you too much. As I already mentioned, there are still plenty of alternatives whose scan engine is definitely more up-to-date than a scanner from 2012. Have a look at my list here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1244365 You will definitely find what you are looking for, even if the list is not yet complete. Maybe, Malwarebytes Free, eScanAV Anti-Virus Toolkit (MWAV) or RogueKiller? All of them are on demand AV/AM scanner.1 point

Ok. But then it does not make any sense to talk about a version which can't be tested from whomever (in any case not from me ). And please don't misunderstand me, I am definitely not interested in any Kaspersky version, regardless of whether they are old or future. I've been through that for a long time. I never liked Kaspersky, and now, this will not change anymore in the future due to well-known reasons.1 point

Yep! There are indeed some file hosters which are much easier to access than NitroFlare, without those extreme limitations. And I also would like to know who the creator is. Anyway! Thanks for the links, @LordGarfio!1 point

Are we still talking about @roytam1's browsers here? Or are we having a fundamental discussion here about which operating system is better or worse and why one should use crappy new 64-bt OSes? The latter would of course be completely offtopic. @roytam1's browsers make it possible to surf even with older computers. Among other things, old hardware is very often only 32-bit capable. So, there are good reasons to use the 32-bit browser versions offered here. Right?1 point
-
No, definitely not. Kaspersky was already discussed here and in other threads very detailed. In the end, it was listed by me here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1244367 And that is all I have to say about this matter.1 point
-
The good is you don't have to worry about 64-bit applications if you are using Windows XP Professional 32-bit. And of course, RAM consumption is not everything, but it is particularly important for those with little available RAM. In such a system, it can happen very quickly that 100% RAM consumption occurs, for example, in New Moon 28 only due to one scrap page.1 point

Personally, I think that such a thread is not really necessary. We already have two threads about extensions here, one for the legacy ones and one for the webextensions. That should be sufficient. Here they are: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/ https://msfn.org/board/topic/183657-mypal-68-in-windows-xp-custom-buttons-and-extensions/ And there can be found a lot about uBlock Origin. D'accord ?1 point

Win32, hello, thanks for everything, please add the ability to customize HTTP2 data like header_table_size and window_size, etc. There's a library that already implemented http2 spoofing: https://github.com/Noooste/azuretls-client I assume you can use their code, I had also sent you a message with another idea, but you don't visit MSFN again....1 point
-
Is there a chance you try on a totally clean OS? I recently had to help someone with a fresh install and tried several browsers there, all of them started waaaaay faster! I assume it may be a conflict with old software. You can also check and see, Chrome tries to load old codecs upon start. Look here: chrome://conflicts1 point
-
Good! In my case that severely outdated piece of garbage from 2001 package added about a couple of seconds to the start of each browser. Another reason I found, old versions of Nero. Probably due to the bundled severely outdated codecs. Take a look at your third party codecs (if you have any). Shark, K-Light, etc.1 point

@win32, come back to MSFN, I promise we'll bust down all haters and create a pleasant atmosphere for you to return! I personally ask @Dave-H to supervise! Guthub dust bin doesn't deserve to have you! I promise I'll stop writing about brightness. And here we have a good place to collaborate.1 point

FYI, I had a "nice" conversation in the Malwarebytes Forums: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/309490-have-you-all-stopped-making-updates/ Unfortunately, there won't be any further definition updates for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300. They have deliberately stopped rolling out current definition updates for this version. After the end of support for Avast Free Antivirus 2015, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.2.1.1043 and now Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300, the air is getting very, very thin for anyone who wants to run an antimalware programme with real-time protection on a machine with an SSE only CPU that is still receiving current definition updates. All in all, bad news!1 point

1. Why should I create an account (were I not to have one already?) and join a server purely to download a single .dll when it could simply be hosted somewhere for direct downloading? 2. Why should I trust a platform known for censorship and getting rid of parts of their community they deem problematic in any way? 3. Why should OP host these files on Discord, considering they MIGHT (keyword) fall under copyright law violations depending on what Microsoft feels like waking up tomorrow? 4. And, most importantly, why should I be forced to use a platform which violates my privacy in every single possible way?1 point
