The same year it started, there was a bold move in a desperate attempt to try to disguise Yandex as a "private company based in Europe", but who would believe that? Source and explanations by Mike Eckel. And there literally are millions of sources that picture what Yandex really is, I'm only giving the one that doesn't include political statements. https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-yandex-government-control/32152249.html4 points

It's not 60's anymore, people have the internet, they can read publicly available sources with clear and simple explanations on the way things done in Russia. Yes, Yandex itself is the problem because it's 100% controlled by the government, unlike, say Yahoo.4 points

Evading the subject, trying to make everyone look equally bad, lumping all in one pile, and then coating with soapy foam to disguise the big mole. Any person with the IQ a little above average will see through. Mind you, it's a very outdated playbook.4 points

Don't overheat them when soldering out. Put something cool on them. Even a simple screwdriver can help. When measured in circuit, there is a larger difference in resistance - it's nothing out the ordinary,3 points

Solved! Update to Chromium 126.0.6478.55 "extensions-manifestv2: This patch will be used to deal with the manifestv2 phaseout changes" https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium/pull/29023 points

Those questions should be addressed to @feodor2, the developer of Mypal 68. You can do it in the Mypal 68 thread, on Codeberg.org or on GitHub.2 points

It's an overkill, I'd stick with 25-40W max. 60w is usually used only when it's hard to melt, like PSU board or smth like that. And don't forget to ground it!2 points

The warning is there for ages. If you go to "manage extensions", click any extension and under "errors" you will see.2 points

He didn't comment because it was a Microsoft issue. Install 26100.994. It's resolved. I had to switch from IoT Enterprise LTSC to Pro because of issues with the Surface app not properly working so I've only tested on Pro.1 point

Indeed works! Thanks, keep up the good work! I was able to put up all of my old extensions.1 point

My old Windows XP machine has 1.5 GB RAM only. And surfing the web works if you keep it simple. Tons of open tabs are not actually necessary, though. My browsers New Moon 28, Serpent 52, Mypal 68 and even Thorium rarely need more than 500 - 600 MB. Abnormal websites are fodder for my Android tablet. At the moment, I am using New Moon 28 with 74 extensions installed, 4 of them disabled, and only the MSFN website opened by a RAM usage of round about 400 MB.1 point

UCyborg said: "64-bit version is definitely much more stable, although unloading larger amount of tabs can take minutes and result in a big spike in RAM consumption while the browser is unusable. Got to total 5,6 GB / 6 GB RAM utilization, 3,6 GB of those occupied by Pale Moon." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a techno-philosophical question: How could it be that we got along with 256MB - 1024MB(1GB) RAM when NT5.0/5.1 dominated the web ? The "MODERN" web gives the impression that it often "loves" to collide with the KISS-Principle. Ignoring the KISS-Principle in technology is the scource of endless trouble. As far as I know, the codec of AVC1 or H.264 is the same, but the formalities of the file internally have different indicators. One is a raw stream, and the other is not.1 point

Try to load search plugins via the Wayback Machine which offers many copies of the Mycroft Project! Or, you use extensions to add search engines as, for example, the one I already described here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183657-mypal-68-in-windows-xp-custom-buttons-and-extensions/?do=findComment&comment=1254846 And you can add new search engines by clicking the green plus icon in the search bar only if the current website offers to add it, of course.1 point

First, you should fully enable hardware acceleration especially if your hardware is weak. Most corresponding prefs have already been enabled by default but the following ones should be set to the value true in any case: layers.prefer-d3d9, layers.acceleration.force-enabled and media.hardware-video-decoding.force-enabled. To force YouTube using the H.264 format, you can install the extension h264ify which you then have to configure to your needs. Personally, I avoid to play YouTube videos in browsers on my system. It's much too bloated. I prefer to use Invidious if I really want to watch those videos in a browser. Anyway! You can also install some user scripts from Greasy Fork to change YouTube settings in Mypal 68 as, for example, https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/480137-youtube-h-264-fps, or https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/493563-hide-vp9-support-from-youtube-force-30-fps-video by using Tampermonkey. But you have to test each user script as some of them don't work anymore due to the permanent changes by YouTube.1 point

Thanks for replying! The last official Chrome which supported Windows XP was the version 49.0.2623.112. I think I have a copy of it in my archive. In any case, I will check if the hardware acceleration worked at all in this version on my hardware and report here. I tested Chrome 49.0.2623.112 regarding hardware acceleration. It doesn't offer hardware accelerated 2d-Canvas. All other hardware accelerated features could be switched on. But testing those ancient Chrome versions is not easy as they are much too old to access modern websites. Without ProxHTTPSProxy, no chance anyways. However, this version has a lot of problems due to its old Javascript engine. In any case, I hope there is a chance to improve hardware acceleration in Thorium in such a way that both, 2d-Canvas and rasterization, can be done by GPU on old systems as mine to take more load off the CPU as it is the case, for example, in Mypal 68. @IDA-RE-things I can also provide a log of GPU errors if it is helpful in identifying and possibly fixing issues. However, one thing is clear. Thorium is almost unusable without the Chrome XP API Adapter on old computers like mine, even if the hardware acceleration only works partially.1 point

@user57 A little tip from me. Why don't you format your text so that people don't have a crisis when they read it? A text stretched out like this is difficult to read and is actually just annoying. I don't understand your countless blank lines at all. What you actually want to say falls completely by the wayside. Anyway! That was just a friendly hint.1 point

Understood, you need to take into account, they also work as resistors, the cheaper (older) the capacitor, the higher the resistance. Capacitors from old boards may only be 85 degrees which leads to high ripples. I recently recapped a monitor, I didn't have caps of 105 degrees, so I took the 85 ones, the monitor behaved oddly after a couple of hours, the brightness was fluctuating until I replaced with the proper 105 degree ones. Reason - high ripples after heating up.1 point

usagestats is not a flag but a REG_DWORD registry value as far as I can see. It was set to the value of zero on my machine.1 point

I think the phrase you intended is "the end is nigh" (sort of archaic English - even native speakers may not be familiar with it) It's fine to post Serpent bug reports here, and this is the correct place for them. It's just that we have no answer for you yet. For the most part, @roytam1 is mainly taking browsers written for Win 7 and making them work with Win XP and Vista. "Upstream" for Serpent is @basilisk-dev, but even he is "downstream" from the UXP project, the browser engine behind Serpent, Basilisk, New Moon 28, Pale Moon, IceApe and others. For what you're asking for, you probably need a UXP fix, which would have to come from Moonchild's team. Moonchild has made it abundantly clear that users of @roytam1's builds are unwelcome in his forums. So to even report the problem, you'd need to: Get your hands on a Win 7 or greater system Reproduce the problem with the latest version of Pale Moon on that system Report the problem on the Pale Moon forum, making no mention of @roytam1, New Moon, Serpent, Win XP, or Vista Be patient because yours is only one of scores of Internet compatibility problems created by the Google/Microsoft/Mozilla goalpost-moving triopoly (and probably not the biggest one).1 point

I'm still having same issues with Win 11 IOT LTSC on 26100.863. I have to disable SAB to get the widgets icon in taskbar to work. With classic taskbar it doesnt work just like 26100.712.1 point

Yeah, but it's not my idea, I actually wanted to further elaborate on what you wrote about Chrome 49! With a simple calculation, if they already knew it was blocked on XP almost 12 years ago, it brings us back to 2012 - early 2013. What was the Chrome version, then? 21? 20? 19? 18? So, it was blocked centuries ago! Overall, I agree with you, not a good idea at all.1 point

"Chrome developers disabled Canvas HW Accel for XP (the artcile is about 12 years old!), it calls Direct3DCreate9Ex from d3d9.dll which is DirectX 9L available only on Vista+, but it is possible to wrap D3D9Ex on Windows XP via WineD3D Direct3D to OpenGL wrapper. (special thanks to WineHQ/Crossover) Then we need to disable blacklist and disable sandbox in launch options." https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15073593/does-chrome-support-gpu-hardware-acceleration-for-the-2d-canvas-under-windows-xp1 point

Unfortunately, no. It doesn't work properly on my system.1 point

@feodor2 Just a short feedback. Your most recent release Mypal 68.14.2b is really great. A lot of improvements and better web compatibility. Even Codeberg does not show an error anymore as far as I can see. Many thanks for your efforts! Great release!1 point

I did not get this captcha when I called it up in Mypal 68.14.2b from Germany. And TBH, this website is totally bloated and cumbersome. Good stuff for my Android tablet if at all.1 point

And yes, @Tripredacus is absolutely right! Windows 7 was also distributed as RTM with SP1 (at least with Fujitsu, see the image below).1 point

That's an American "invention", all of my Siemens (later branded as just Fujitsu, made in Germany) computers (desktops and laptops) came with physical media. LOVE THAT! The tradition went on even with Win 7, not sure about 8 and later.1 point

Yes, the page above is the official Supermium website. And the account was flagged for "spamming". as I found out when trying to export the repository directly from GitHub to GitLab. The repositories were not deleted, but they are hidden from public view along with my account itself. At the time of this incident, I had built Chromium 124-based Supermium and it worked on XP (x86 and x64). But I still had a few deficiencies to correct before even a pre-release, specifically graphical glitches with GPU enabled, some upstream UI bugs, plus other outstanding bugs reported recently. Other features such as a UA/UACH spoofer and UI customization were being worked on as well. I reiterate that there is no malware in Supermium, progwrp, its installer and its uninstaller.1 point

The win32ss account on GitHub was flagged for an unspecified reason. I am going through the appeal process to restore it, but I will make sure the repository surfaces somewhere else such as GitLab even if GitHub does accept the appeal.1 point

Still have my SEGA Genesis here too I think it's not about nostalgia nowadays, the world was really a bit better some years ago. We've lost the beautiful shapes in buildings, cars, cities... why do we need to completely convert a car to a InternetOfThings-car? do we really need a screen replacing the speedometer? same is happening with Windows OS, Taskbar was perfect before... I never believed in the sentence there are two types of people (there are tons of different people) but we can now starting to see 2 types of people: Those who grew in a world where there were no Internet or Smartphones, and the others.1 point
