  1. So I went to their official page on Twitter, no status message was shown on Twitter, AstroSkipper, what about Facebook? The same?

  2. "Client Hints enable developers to actively request information about the user's device" "Caution: If you are already using User-Agent Client Hints, be aware that since Chrome 90 the header format has changed so the Accept-CH tokens must exactly match the returned headers." Basically, they compare your fake UA with the result from the Client Hints, it doesn't match - you're busted. https://developer.chrome.com/docs/privacy-security/user-agent-client-hints Chromium 115 has ClientHints fully enabled by default!

  3. I couldn't find any status messsges on Facebook. It rather seems to be a dead account. Last official messages are from 2019 as far as I could see.

  5. I have written this article about Zemana Anti-Malware to the best of my knowledge and belief and as informatively as possible. For this purpose, I installed the programme on my second Windows XP partition, tested the basic functions and took screenshots. Now, I am curious about your opinions. Is there anyone here who is using this programme or has used it for some time in the last 6 years? I am interested in meaningful facts and useful information for potential users. PS: I had to write this post a second time as the original one suddenly no longer existed after the maintenance work here on MSFN.

  9. Dave , you're welcome ! Instagram uses insane user fingerprinting techniques , I'm just not ok with it . Perhaps this has something to do with their new "anti-bot" protection . I remember just waiting for a couple of days had solved some problems in the past . BTW , I used plenty of methods for browsing ,including NOX , Grids (which was very good!) until the pl@nkers banned it ! They just want everyone on their phones for total surveillance and user data mining/stealing. So I'm taking a break until I find something new . My 360 Browser version had it's own emulation fo their app , but they found how to detect it (quite recently). Until then they were sure I was using their App and all functions worked flawlessly , including uploading , etc.

Comodo Internet Security 5.9, which despite following the security industry naming convention for paid suites is actually the name of Comodo's free suite, now supports the company's TrustConnect VPN service. TrustConnect uses 128-bit encryption to provide addition Wi-Fi protection Source article: https://ethicalhacking.do.am/news/comodo_adds_vpn_attacks_competitors/2011-12-22-257 I wonder, how good is that VPN?

  14. Could it be you booted into this new windows and forgot to select "show hidden files" in folder options?
    1 point
  15. Well, for whatever reason your initial partitioning did not respect the "new" paradigm (that - just for the record - is not sector 64 but rather sector 2048). If you are dual booting XP and 7 you risk (unknowingly) to lock yourself out of all the logical volumes inside extended: http://reboot.pro/index.php?showtopic=9897 (if you are using the "new" alignment AND use the XP disk management, once you have parittioned with the new alignment NEVER use the XP disk management on that disk/ssd) The old paradigm was "align to cylinder" (hence 63) while the new one is "align to Mbyte" (hence 2048 as 2048x512=1048576). The setting for this behaviour is - since Vista - in the Registry, it is a set of four keys in CurrentControlSet (that could be ControlSet001 or ControlSet002): HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VDS\Alignment\LessThan4GB HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VDS\Alignment\Between4_8GB HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VDS\Alignment\Between8_32GB HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VDS\Alignment\GreaterThan32GB The defaults are 1048576 for the last three and 65536 (128x512=65536) for the first one, for smaller devices, as said it started with Vista and all later Windows use the same, here are some details for Server 2008: https://frankdenneman.nl/2009/05/20/windows-2008-disk-alignment/ The 64 sector offset was used by a few hard disks, but is not common. Check that you have these keys with the default values in your Registry, then if you partition normally using Windows 7 Disk Management the partition will have the "new normal" 2048 alignment. jaclaz

  16. Disabling Steam client auto-updates. In the Steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), create a Steam.cfg file with the text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable, set the attribute "Read Only". Disable Steam's autorun. In the Steam shortcut on the desktop, add the following parameter: -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl

  19. Interesting! While all browsers support image formats like JPEG, PNG, and GIF, Accept tells in this case that the browser also supports WebP and APNG. Using this information, we can negotiate the best image types for each browser: <?php // Check Accept for an "image/webp" substring. $webp = stristr($_SERVER["HTTP_ACCEPT"], "image/webp") !== false ? true : false; // Set the image URL based on the browser's WebP support status. $imageFile = $webp ? "whats-up.webp" : "whats-up.jpg"; ?> <img src="<?php echo($imageFile); ?>" alt="I'm an image!"> More info: https://web.dev/articles/performance-optimizing-content-efficiency-client-hints

  21. Even though this post is 3 years old, and Windows 10 was the latest Windows version at that time, I just tried connecting Win XP to my friend's Win 11 PC using AnyDesk. It works OK! Also, performance isn't bad after all (after testing it for a while), at least on my Win XP SP3 VM with just 2 GB RAM. Here's how it looks like: And don't worry about the sound tray icon displaying like that, it's just that he didn't install an audio device. Other than that, everything works fine.

  22. I'm pretty certain all browsers run background tasks. It's been a long time since most Web sites were entirely synchronous entities, where you press a button or click a link; the browser does something, shows you the resulting Web page, and then shuts down completely until you press another button or click another link. Probably like the '90's or so. Nowadays, many Web pages expect to send you notifications or update the page if something happens on their end, even without you doing anything on your end. Even MSFN. Nevertheless, it may be possible to force an app (such as a browser) to stop all processing when none of its windows have the focus. I'm not sure that's a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a program out there somewhere that does that.

  23. Maybe, you try for example the extension KeePassXC-Browser in version 1.8.5.1 for Firefox 67 and up instead of the more recent ones for Firefox 96 and up. Reducing the minimum Firefox requirements inside webextensions rarely works.

  24. Stating the duration of a custom scan without the amount of files examined is unfortunately completely meaningless. 11 min for 1 GB, 11 min for 10 GB, or 11 min for 100 GB would lead to completely different evaluations. Anyway! Thanks for your good intentions!

  28. The aboutbuttuon is a special custom button coded quite unusually. It is generated in JavaScript by the var variable and is a menu button. When hovering on all buttons, you will notice that this button renders differenly from all the others. I think the code imported by the stylesheet buttons_on_navbar_button_roundness.css can't target this kind of custom button. It is simply not recognised as a standard toolbar button by the stylesheet. To change the appearance of this button in a toolbar (e.g. nav-bar) itself, you have to change the code inside the aboutbutton.uc.js file directly. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  29. Yep! I agree. If MSFN is not available for a longer period of time, a status message on Twitter or Facebook would be something useful.

  30. As we all know, MSFN is already represented on Twitter and Facebook For the future case that MSFN is not available for a longer period of time (several days), a short message there would be desirable. You don't have to have a Twitter or Facebook account to read such a status message. Personally, I am not a social media fan, but if such accounts already exist, then perhaps they should be used. Unfortunately, when MSFN was down on 03/06/2023, there was no message. Nor on the following days. The last messages were from 2019. Such accounts are then of course useless.

  31. But it is listed under the Microsoft Windows forums. Here is a link: Windows Vista Honestly, it doesn't really matter what sub-forums exist on MDL. Here, in this thread, we are looking for a place where MSFN members can talk when their forum is down for whatever reason. This place to be chosen therefore has nothing to do with operating systems and will logically be located in a general talk area.

  33. @feodor2 I assume you mean this error which occurs when clicking onto the button Settings: Right? In any case, clicking this button leads to this error shown above in the console, and the Connection Settings page can't be opened. The problem starts to occur in your new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. I checked the previous pre-release 68.13.0 and the version 68.12.5. Both are working fine. I compared the file subdialogs.js to the old ones and nothing has changed. Unfortunately, I can't find your typo but I am sure you already know where it might be located. Anyway! Just FYI! @feodor2 Thank you very much for the hint! I already had a look into this file (nomen est omen) but without an idea or syntax checker, a superfluous quote is not so easy to find. Anyway! I already fixed it, and now it's working fine here: Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper

  36. Well.. I know it's kinda too late for that question, but after I found my 12 year old Notebook, still running Windows Vista (3GB RAM, Dual Core Processor), I noticed that it was pretty fast, although many people claimed that Windows 7 would perform soo much better. The Windows 7 Beta Programm was even soo popular back then that MS decided to extend it. I still quite dont get why. I upgraded that Notebook to Windows 7 Home Premium and the performance was way worse than Vista's. Generally talking, I think the hype around Windows 7 wasnt as justified as a potential hype about Windows Vista would have been. Windows 7 was kind of an update to Vista. Same goes for the new Windows 11. It's no major upgrade! It's basically Windows 10 with just some, not life-changing, visual changes. Now they are saying that Windows 11 is soo much faster than Windows 10, which I, indeed, still havent noticed. Do you think it was/is just for PR or do you guys really think that Win7/Win11 are really soo much faster than their predecessors? In my opinion, Windows 8 was the fastest version ever released by Microsoft, since it had Fast-Boot, had no Hardcore Bloat, like W10/11 and the OOBE wasnt so annoying. Idk but I am also kinda disappointed that MS removed the Live-Tiles in W11.
