  1. The flood control change did exactly what we wanted it to. It wasn't going to stop people from making posts. The only way to prevent the new accounts from making those spam posts was to prevent all members from being able to make any posts. That is the reality of what features are available in the forum software. Having to deal with hundreds instead of thousands is a good trade off. The expectations and function of flood control has nothing to do with the usability of the forum from a regular person's viewpoint, it is solely to assist Moderators in dealing with the situation on the back end. In the future, do not OTSP about these types of things in tech threads. Make a thread in this section instead.

  2. From a purely technical persperctive (so no offence), the app doesn't work as intended, you simply switched off the most important security feature. The last Opera-Chrome for Win7,8,8.1 are still based on Chrome 109, it will change if you fix the sandbox and make it fully working. like someone did in CatsXP.

  4. Thanks for your reply! At the moment, it's absolutely no fun to have a conversation anymore. I only see messages telling me to wait x sec until I can reply where x is an integer growing with attempts to respond in a timely manner.

  12. I wrote about it recently: TRIM on NVMe I thought TRIM did not work but it turned out that I used a too small file for manual testing: Too small file for test TRIM If your file system is NTFS and the file is small, it is a resident file, it does not get a separate cluster, it is stored inside the $MFT record. And because the record is part of the $MFT file, it is also properly shocked in the 0x80 record attribute describing this file. That's why TRIM has no right to bite him: The trimcheck-0.7 program does a TRIM test with a 64MB file. O&O Defrag v17.5.559 + NVMe 1.3 Stchrom driver = TRIM not works O&O Defrag v17.5.559 + ported NVMe Generic_NVMe_6.1.7601.23403 or Samsung_NVMe_3.3.0.2003 driver = TRIM works

  15. I found two links (German websites) abour TRIM under Windows XP: https://www.pcwelt-forum.de/threads/trim-bei-win-xp-ausfuehren-geloest.514205/index.html https://www.die-oswalds.de/blog/2019/09/25/windows-xp-und-die-ssd/#:~:text=Windows XP unterstützt noch kein,TRIM-Support vom OS überflüssig. And you can try out the manufacturer's tool Samsung Magician: https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/ PS: Thanks to this new annoyance called Flood Control I had to wait 1400 sec to post this reply. No chance to reply as usual. Always a message about a too short time frame blablabla. I am really glad to be a normal member.

  16. Agreed, @NotHereToPlayGames. I also think discussion of features (that used to work on XP) inherent to the common codebase (Chromium), which the browser is based on is perfectly valid and on-topic. Surely it would be extensive undertaking to bring WebGL performance on newer Chromium codebase back to speed on XP, unlike back in the day when it was being gradually phased out and you could still get it to work on slightly newer versions of Chromium of the time by adding/replacing certain support DLLs. But even in the case of occassional off-topic remark, who cares?? We've been over this as well and it's not worth commenting any further.

  17. @Dietmar I forgot to ask whether TRIM is activated on your SSD at all. Try this cmd command to check it: fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify. If the output is 1, it is disabled. To activate TRIM use this command: fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0. Or, use a tool like SSD-Z if your SSD drive is supported.

  18. Glad to hear that this tool is working under Windows XP. BTW, I use O&O Defrag Professional 17.5.559.0, too. A great defragmenter (although SSD drives do not need to be defragmented)! In any case, the best I ever used to optimise HDDs under Windows XP. But I do not use SSDs under Windows XP. Maybe, you try a tool from the manufacturer, in your case Samsung, to trim your SSD. If such a tool also failed, you would know that presumably a trim is not possible under this configuration (hardware and OS). Or, try to perform a trim using a Linux Live System via DVD! Linux works often much better if hardware problems occur. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  19. Hello @Dietmar! Trimcheck does this job. I don't know if it is XP-compatible. But I think you will see it when starting this tool. The last/latest version is Trimcheck 0.7 which you can get here: http://files.thecybershadow.net/trimcheck/ Older versions are also available there. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  21. Reading Italian is not one of my strongest abilities, but I'm pretty sure by "disco" they didn't mean the music style. Memoria or disco wording means they suspect your HDD or RAM be at fault, which could also point to the PAE patch. PAE patch doesn't get friendly with Nvidia drivers, the combination of PAE+Nvidia drivers don't go well with network drivers.

I had that particular BSOD error "d0000144 unknown hard error" in the past (circa 2012-2013), for me it was the system HDD failing. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/d0000144-unknown-hard-error/9e883793-46b5-475f-9edd-057b909be3ac https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/desktops-general-read-only/stop-d0000144-unknown-hard-error/647e425af4ccf8a8ded15746 https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/stop-d0000144-unknown-hard-error.17994653/

  26. So I went further and patched all files supplied in the win7 Plat. update, including d2d1, no errors shown in the game, but still no texts. The game hooks them up just fine and they are loaded fine. Ideas?

  28. Vista's media foundation and Direct2D are fully compatible with that purely DX11.0 game. Though, it's not the case with the latest patch, so I lowered down the version, patched a bit, DX11 loaded fine, so no troubles, except for the bloody text. I patched DWrite from the Platform Update and placed into the game directory, the error is gone, still no text, I even replaced the game fonts with a working ones from an older game, no result. WinSqmAddToStreamEx replaced with WinSqmAddToStream. These are undocumented: GetFontRealizationInfo GetFontFileData GetFontFileInfo https://github.com/MyTDT-Mysoft/DllCompat/issues/9 So I replaced with GetFontData. I even hooked it up with the new gdi32, then it just won't start at all, throwing out the generic 142 error. Before patching the log file was: [INFO]main() [INFO]Styles enabled [INFO]CApplication::CApplication() [INFO]Create options [INFO]Starting physics engine [INFO]Starting 3d engine [INFO]Selected adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan dx11\DspMainDX11.cpp [190] : error: Assertment failed! Message: Failed to initialize DirectWrite. Now it's without the last line. But no ingame text, strange, as I see the Dwrite module is loaded into the memory just fine. Yes, I still use that 11 years old videocard.

  29. UPDATE: I found the problem, it's in the shell32.dll, not comdlg32. The bug is there when using both methods, local and normal install. I will later write what I did to solve it for me.

  30. I do not block anything in New Moon 28 regarding Glarysoft. Both, uBlock Origin and eMatrix have been configured to allow all access to this site. BTW, same problem in Serpent 52. All horses back! You were right! I tested everything more deeply. The problem is uBlock Origin, which blocked the addthis.com page. addThis -> no built-in JavaScript object. In any case, this made these menus inaccessible. Thanks for the tip!

  32. I was under the impression this topic was more like *not supported officially list*. I might be wrong, of course. Thank you very much ! I'll try. Looks interesting. Is this hack only for the 67 ? I mean, 67 makes no sense, it's already in the 70s range for a long time.

  33. Thank you, nah, no shoulder (thank god) , it was a sharp object, I think it's better to describe it as I jumped on a pile of sharp crap, when trying to avoid the blast near me. It was an old factory we were protecting. But no shrapnel touched me, so I'm lucky I guess. I'm in mental pain because of Astriskipper, not the wounds, they are healed. I wish you will recover too and very soon !

  35. MKVToolNix no longer supports Windows 7 or 8 for over a year (not sure about the exact date). The last working version - 66 (tried myself) , starting 67 doesn't work. Read rumours someone made unofficial hacks. Fully disassembled them and then used QT5, not sure how good it would be, kinda defeats the purpose of newer versions being made in the first place.

From what I know, yes, there is only one ESU update that allows to install the kernel right onto a clean SP2 (even without any prerequisites) , yet I think I'll note write its number here.
